The kid they interviewed at the end actually made me sympathize for the judge in a way.

This is another side effect of for-profit prisons.

You know these judges are not the only two, and it's not always kids.

I remember a Dateline story about this from forever ago. Glad this guy is finally going away.

2011-08-11 01:41:18 PM
His attorneys had asked for a "reasonable" sentence in court papers, saying, in effect, that he'd already been punished enough.

"The media attention to this matter has exceeded coverage given to many and almost all capital murders, and despite protestation, he will forever be unjustly branded as the 'Kids for Cash' judge," their sentencing memo said.

How was he "unjustly branded" with the thing he just got convicted for?

It undermines the public trust, I think the penalties should certainly be stiff for that. It's no wonder why people have absolutely no faith in the justice system in this country. You know they execute people in China for stuff like that.

STFU - you're scum who sold kids to private run prisons for kickbacks. you ARE the personification of evil.

Now what about the guys who run those prisons? why aren't THEY in a jail cell? hell - far as I know their names have never been released. SOMEONE gave these judges over a million dollars. so where's the other half of the bribery scandal?

That's a good question indeed. It takes two to tango, so where's his dance partner? I'm no legal expert, but I'm pretty sure that bribing is every bit as illegal as receiving a bribe.

that's the one thing about this mess that's never made sense - there has been ZERO calls for investigation into who runs these prisons and how they run that business.

Amen. Someone paid bribes; someone knows who did.

This story is so repulsive. A judge making decisions on the basis of how many children he can sentence to jail so he can earn more?

the utter silence from Harrisburg on this matter is very troublesome. this was a major bribery scandal...and nobody called for an investigation into these companies. how far does the corruption go? did they have improper contact with the legislature? were other judges bribed? what about the cops? did they bribe police officers as well?

This is PA we're talking about, so I'm thinking everywhere.

The reason the bribers aren't being charged is because they just bribed their way out. That's what they do... bribe people.

I know you aren't serious, but your cunning plan has one little flaw. It's very difficult to guess what prison you'd wind up in. They don't necessarily put people in prisons anywhere near where they live or where the crime was committed. A LOT of inmates in the prison here (southwest PA) are from the Philadelphia area. I don't know WHY they don't just take them to the nearest prison, it would make more sense logistically but they don't.

You guys have not thought this through.

Do an inmate search. Find an inmate in whatever prison he's in. Make sure the inmate is doing life. Load his books full of cash and have him spread the word that if they make this guy their personal wiener pincushion, they'll be swimming in Top Rammen.

No. This guy was the one with the power to destroy people. Then he was a monumental prick when he did it.

Here's what I'd do: close down the prisons, seize their assets, and charge them in federal courts for tax evasion, money laundering, etc...

Make sure none of these people ever see the streets again, and make sure their families, friends, and anyone who ever came in contact with them are left destitute.

Why so harsh? Because f*ck you, that's why.

Dear farkwad. Yes, you are indeed the personification of evil and deserve every nanosecond of the 28 year sentence and more. The wailing of your loved ones is music to my soul. I remember a year or 2 back mentioning this case in some thread and some other Farker thought he caught me lying and tried to rip me because he said it was a plot for an Law and Order Episode, not real life. A few other Farkers quickly, and rather snarkily, pointed out to him that the episode was based on a real case. Needless to say that Farker didn't post anything else in that thread.

He got $1 million from people who ran a for-profit prison and were in need of warm bodies to fill it. Immediately thereafter, he sent a bunch of warm bodies to that very same for-profit prison. Exactly how does his mind work that he can say those two things aren't related? What was his defense? "They said it was a gift" ?!

There aren't too many non-murder convictions that I believe deserve the death sentence. This is one of them. The number of lives he's ruined is staggering, and he violated public trust to the extreme. I hope some crazy mofo kills this guy in prison.

That is unpossible.

I read on Fark almost weekly that for-profit is ALWAYS better, more efficient, and more ethical than government run endeavors. So, it is unpossible that this judge was in collusion with a for profit prison. Fark told me so.

I'm not defending the Judge for taking kickbacks. He should be reprimanded.

But come on, let's not get soft on juvenile criminals because one judge made a mistake.

The vast majority of these delinquents are guilty of much more than what they were charged with. We should be sending more kids to jail. The more the better.

Little shiats.
