"We obviously don't need things like that portraying an image that's really not the Chicago White Sox," manager Jerry Manuel said.

...I won't be the one to say it :-p

2003-09-11 01:24:20 PM
They have an image?

2003-09-11 01:24:37 PM
Heh, i used to live in bridgeport (near comiskey), and i'd have to say that pretty accurately portrays the team, and the neighborhood. I mean, alot of the media even calls their stadium cell-block park. At least they won the game and are still in 1st place.

In another note, GO ChiSOX!

Now, that guy needed to ask himself...

Was Roberto Alomar available for comment?

Go White Sox!!!

The area around the park absolutely sucks. And them renaming the field to US Cellular Field was the stupidest moves I've ever heard of, but at least they are still in first after losing last night.

2003-09-11 01:28:55 PM
The fact that he had an abysmal outing on the mound had nothing to do with it. Nope, nope, nope.

2003-09-11 01:29:15 PM
I could care less about the park or its neighborhood. Deal with it.

All I care about is if they win.

Go ChiSox!

2003-09-11 01:29:52 PM
Image? Wasn't that destroyed by the crazed drunken fans running onto the field and beating up Kansas City's 1B coach?

Kudos to the headine writer !... Kudos !

Well what the park is like and the surrounding neighborhood has a big influence on attendance. Even if they are playing good ball if you run a risk of getting mugged just walking to your car after a night game attendance is gonna take a hit. Look at Wriggly, neighborhood around it is a good city neighborhood, even when the cubs suck they still have good attendance.

2003-09-11 01:32:24 PM
Im with downstairs :!

2003-09-11 01:33:38 PM
Oh yeah. Class is what the Sox are all about. Pffft.

Now, that is an obscure reference! Mad props!

I have that card too.

He gave up four runs, three hits and a walk in just one-third of an inning,

this might have had something to do with it.
didn't he used to be prtty decent with the M's?

2003-09-11 01:43:33 PM
Yes, the White Sox need more players who live up to the team's image. Players like Chick Gandil and Eddie Cicotte.

Go Cubs!

I think Frank Thomas SHOULD get special treatment. Yes baseball is in the entertainment industry, like acting is, but it's also a skill based profession: as such, it makes sense to protect those who are most talented/valuable because it hurts more to lose them. Why is that not okay?

2003-09-11 01:47:03 PM
Radke will have the Twins back to even with the Sox after this afternoon's game.

I find it funny that he even Tampa Bay didn't want him on their team.

2003-09-11 01:51:44 PM
You know, at least the fans that do go to Comiskey (won't refer to it by any other name) know something about baseball... unlike the North Siders who go to the game and treat it like it's the world's biggest frat party.

digmyfarmertan

Goes to show that White Sox fans are really more concerned about rooting against the Cubs than for the Sox.

That is all.

2003-09-11 01:54:29 PM
No, we like it when the Cubs come to town...We like to knock them out of first place.....

2003-09-11 01:54:47 PM
Dish:

Perhaps you missed the fact that the Cubs fans are selling out OTHER TEAM'S BALLPARKS?!?! The only sellouts in the Joan this year are during the Cubs series. The Cubs fans also bought all the tickets to the recent Milwaukee Brewers series.

What's average sox attendance? 18K? Less? In a 47,000 seat stadium?

Yeah, us Cubs fans don't know shiat OR care about baseball, do we?

2003-09-11 01:54:56 PM
Maybe the ump cut him off pulling into the parking lot?

2003-09-11 01:55:37 PM
Frank who?

2003-09-11 01:57:28 PM
I think it's great the way the Cubs are scalping their own tickets....When it gets to be standard operating procedure in MLB then we can thank the Cubs...

2003-09-11 01:57:53 PM
digmy..

Again with comparing your team to the Cubs. They're literally not in the same league and have fark all to do with how the regular season ends.

Were I you, I'd worry more about that biatch of a schedule the Sox have, with three more against the Twinkies and six against KC...not to mention three with the Yanks.

The Sox losing last night was a really, really bad idea. Now KC and Minnesota can catch up...

Oh wait, I forgot to make the Cubs look good by badmouthing the Sox....

jgramlich, check your local papers. Jay Mariotti wrote an article saying exactly what I said. I'm an outsider, new to the Chicago scene. I come from a large, East Coast city and have had a few years to digest the Chicago baseball scene, so this is an unbiased opinion, not one from a Sox fan.

First of all, just because you sell out games doesn't mean that your fans know anything about baseball... it just means there's a lot of people who want to go to the scene. I know that there are quite a few people who are Cubs fans who know a lot about the game (many of my close friends included), but the overwhelming majority of the people at Wrigley seem to go for the atmosphere rather than the game.

2003-09-11 02:01:23 PM
So, what was the obscene gesture? Middle finger? Crotch grabbing? Sawed-off shotgun?

Inquiring minds (who didn't watch the game) want to know.

2003-09-11 02:01:48 PM
Cubs suck.

Yes, Mariotti is God and we must all accept his voice as the truth.

If you want to do a scientific study of it, fine. Wander through the stands of the Joan and count scorecards. Then count fans with scorecards at Wrigley.

Or you could take the Sportscenter angle, and have a look at what many are calling the best five game series they've ever seen (Cubs/Cards Laborday-ish).

Now, I'm also pretty damn certain that NOBODY was paying a thousand dollars a ticket to see the Cubs beat up on the Yankees earlier this year "to see and be seen on the *scene*".

Wrigley was most certainly louder than any indoor venue (Bulls, whatever) I've ever been to that weekend (either the Cards or Yanks series), so perhaps you could tell me, in a scientific manner, just how much more Sox fans know about baseball, or care for their team, than Cubs fans?

I've heard this argument many, many times, and it isn't any more true than me saying that Cubs fans are more knowledgable than Sox fans. Or Yankee's fans are more knowledgable than Boston fans...well, Yankee fans suck. F-them and their 25 championships or whatever.

Just keep concentrating on who has the better fans... while other cities enjoy better teams.

Let's get a Fark Party going! Then we can just decide this white sox/cubs matter once and for all..............drinking contest of course!!

No way can Wrigley crowd noise ever match the crowd noise at a bulls or blackhawks game at the old stadium. It is not possible. The United Center maybe but not the old stadium.

2003-09-11 02:18:13 PM
Mojo, Old Style kill-a-keg contest then?
