Been there. The main reason people go there is to watch the glaciers calving (and the humpback whales). Stupid boat driver should have known better than to get that close. Probably get the tour company sued.

The thing that I was surprised by was the sound. It's this amazingly loud whipcrack type noise.

A broken leg? From one of the flying ice balls I suppose, because the ship barely moved.

Obviously this is the fault of GLOBAL WARMING.

If only we all drove Priuses, used only solar, geothermal, and wind energy to power our homes and lifestyles we wouldn't have had to witness the death of one of nature's most beautiful designs.

Gaia weeps.

It always amazes me how glacier ice like this is airplane lavatory blue instead of white, like you'd usually expect.

Spent some time one weekend last year watching all the home videos of 9/11 on youtube etc. just because I never had before, and it was funny how many people couldn't think of anything else to say but "holy shiat/crap" over and over.

Went on a small ship cruise and would have loved to see something like this. The captain is supposed to stay .25 miles from the glacier and bow facing the glacier.

Last glacier we visited we climbed

Is that iceberg made out of airline toilet water or something? That color looks like it comes from a 2000 flushes pack.

"Holy Falling Ice, Batman!", would be my immediate exclamation. To be honest.

That not-from-toilet blue ice is very pretty.

Reminds me of a (fictional) story I once read about the coldest of compressed ice that didn't thaw normally and was turned into weapons ^_^.
Closest real life parallel to that would be Pykrete, a truly awesome substance of sawdust and ice that is very slow to melt.

Pining for the fjords ?!!?!?!? what kind of talk is that !?!?!

look m'lad !! I know a broken glacier when I see one .... and when I went by not 'alf an hour ago !! you assured me that it's total lack of movement was due to it being tired and shagged out from a long melt !!

I cracked up multiple times between the guy that yelled, seeing a huge piece of Ice coming straight towards them and then a "Oh chit" (0:08-0:10)
and the danger, danger, danger.

Not sure what you're implying, but the colour(s) of light reflected by anything is what makes it that particular colour. Unless you are trying to say its reflecting the water/sky to look blue?...

The glacier calving happens pretty frequently. When I was up there in June, it was every 10 minutes or so a major chunk would break off; and by major, I mean 6 story building sorta size. As others have said, the noise of it all was the most interesting. Here's a couple snaps I shot of the area:

This was roughly the size of a house.

It's a very interesting place to visit.

One female passenger on board the vessel is believed to have broken her leg after being thrown to the deck.

Then she got up on one leg and sued the captain, the business, the investors of the business, and everyone on the damn boat for failing to protect her broken leg.

Looking at Google Maps it seems that a large proportion of the glacier(s) flows down from across the Canadian border, maybe she should sue Canada for supplying the ice too?
