Isn't this like an unemployed child discontinuing his/her "services" to your household budget by moving out?

2001-10-30 09:58:30 AM
I got one too. Bye Bye to the useless shower of bastards, of seemingly limitless inadequacy, who have pointedly and catastrophically failed to deliver any kind of service since their beginning. They had attained the holy piss pot of god-awful service, that no-one, anywhere ever has equalled.
Ho Hum.

You get what you pay for. I swear [image from ifthisworks.com too old to be available] this should be their company logo.

But... But... (he says, with trembling lower lip...) But where will the spammers host their "grow your package" web sites?

2001-10-30 10:25:08 AM
and the crowd rejoices.

2001-10-30 10:52:12 AM
I'm surprised it didn't just collapse entirely on its own.

2001-10-30 10:56:36 AM
They're just teasing, right? I mean, this is too good to be true..

They actually decided this a couple of months ago, but it took so long to download, we just found out.

If 69megs never existed, we would have to create it just so we could shut it down.

2001-10-30 11:44:11 AM
I'm confused. What are they discontinuing? I don't recall any actual service...

Should be Obvious. Didn't we learn this lesson from the Free Internet providers who all went bankrupt and out of business?

YOU CANNOT MAKE MONEY IF YOU GIVE YOUR PRODUCT AWAY FOR FREE.

2001-10-30 12:58:31 PM
Sure you can, Aeonite, sure...
You may lose some on every sale, but you can make it up in volume!

I think the Free ISPs were a good idea... you click the banners to support them instead of paying money for the service. I could be wrong, but I think the reason they failed is because the people who are stupid enough to click banner ads are all on AOL.

note the front page, to the right:
15,627 members
6.3 million pages served
$35,275 in unpaid bandwidth bills

seriously, go look for yourself

Get it? 69. haha.

I guess that they couldn't afford the dial-up connections for their servers anymore.

when 69megs.com FIRST STARTED, they weren't bad. They had good bandwidth, and it was very reliable. Then, one day (I think it was a Tuesday), they just went to shiat. I waited a week before I decided they weren't coming back. Then I searched out new forms of photo storage.

...right now, Homestead seems to be working quite well for me.

Like any Farker in their right mind would pay them for hosting. What? Do they switch from a 300 baud modem to a 1200 baud modem or something when you pay?

2001-10-31 01:07:06 PM
and of course, their website shows NOTHING of this.
