User42: Wangiss: This is state legislation you're talking about, so there are 50+ versions on the books, depending on where you are. It's like saying "in Europe..." and then detailing one country's laws. It's an exercise in stupidity. Congratulations to you both.

Well you are troll, but I will bite anyways. Name a state where you would be legally allowed to shoot someone, but not allowed to kill them.

We were talking about self defense, either you are allowed to defend yourself or your not, and that varies by the situation and location. It matters not how you defend yourself. Everyone that commented on Great Janitor's post was just trying to clarify to him, there is no "shoot to wound" clause on any law book. Even a "wounding shot" could still easily cause death, the act of firing a gun has the possibility of being a lethal attack regardless of where you aim.

Lots of cases of self defense end in involuntary manslaughter charges. Here's one:

Slaxl: Why is this so complicated? Do you people just want to put your own spin on reasons for the problems just so you can justify your own views about what certain politicians are doing to your country? Just stop it. This is really farking simple. A twat got shot (be under no illusions, just because it transpires that the early reports that he shot first turned out to be false, and was only carrying an unfired modified weapon doesn't make him an innocent saint), people protested, protest spilled into violence which turned into a riot. People across the city saw the lack of police response and a large movement of people joined in, the police were stretched so there wasn't a chance of stemming the tide, 20 police faced 300 thugs in one instance, so it builds until you get what we had here last night, but tonight, with all police recalled, people knew there was going to be a greater police presence and so stayed away, because the risk/reward suddenly dropped away like a cliff.

People with genuine concerns and messages march into police cordons and kettling traps knowing they're going to be beaten, risk death, and arrest because they believe their cause is worth it. Also you don't see them walking down the road with a 42" tv and a grin the size of Texas on their faces, or mugging their injured co-protestors. Stop farking sticking up for these deplorable human beings. I'm farking sick of it.

It is disgusting and it does get old, but Fark and Reddit are similar to Fox News a lot of the time, except they're for the left. If you go far enough in one direction on the political compass you're bound to end up on the other. Both hate facts, reality and admitting to any sort of fault.

Are these people actually interested in any sort of change? I don't think so. They just want to steal some crap and rob some people.

This is like Katrina on steroids. Only this is about nothing that deserved this magnitude of destruction. We are really watching common thieves and hoods mugging people, destroying property and stealing stuff from stores before torching them. There is no glory here, only mayhem. Bring out the rubber bullets and vicious dogs.

As we begin the dawn of this century, people all across the world need to figure out a new economic system in a time where:

1) Much like Agricultural and Industrial revolutions reshaped our society, information and automation frees up additional people for other tasks.
2) We need to be free from the old concepts of wealth and value transfer so that every person is utilized. Gold was a barbarous relic that we simply exchanged for in its place a fiat currency
3) Unshackle ourselves from the bondage of religion. We need to learn that man should be decent and understanding towards their fellow man not out of fear that the invisible sky wizard will strike you down but that the behavior is in itself the better option

Sadly, man is simultaneously a crude and wonderful animal. The sad part is that it will always attempt the path of least resistance en mass. Without leaders with great visions, man becomes a virulent plague that consumes itself and everything around it. I highly doubt that we will bypass this period of trouble without major armed conflict that could once again usher horrors not seen since the days of the Eastern Front 41-43.

Emposter: If you've been tracking the UK riots, you know that the UK riots aren't political protests, they're organized destruction and looting for no purpose at all. They have no message, they're just teens drunk on the realization that the UK police can't stop them, and most people are terrified of the destruction and violence they're causing.

As an American, more than anything, I'm continually shocked at the degree to which the UK has crippled its own police, to the point where they can't do anything but stand and watch as kids burn people's belongings and livelihoods to the ground. They're so afraid of being yelled at again for overreacting that they've become completely useless. I'm no fan of the US's increasingly militaristic and oversized police force, but I'll say one thing...we would have crushed the shiat out of riots like these by this point.

Subby is a retard.

If you had REALLY been tracking the UK riots, you'd know that they ARE political protests. While they're no longer exclusively associated with the initial issue, they're not just disorganized destruction. The rioters are disenfranchised citizens, attacking the corporate source of the major problems in the UK today.

And Subby is correct, the British government is behaving badly. You are the retard.

Just because Wal-Mart puts all of my other options out of business (while selling my children's future to the Chicom conspiracy) doesn't mean I believe in Wal-Mart when I have to buy something.

By the same token, when your dittoheaded "leaders" rail about the evils of Government from their positions in Government, their arguments are not negated by that incongruity. They are negated by their lack of logic. .

The riots came at an opportune time for Murdoch. Doubt if there will be anything reported on the telephone hacks during or after the riots.

You seemed to imply that because I use a tool created by a corporation to criticize corporatism, that I am a hypocrite.

No more so than a Colonial using a musket made in England to drive a ball through the face of a Redcoat.

Now, carry on with your trolling.

American rifles were fairly different in design from standard British rifles, and were more accurate. One of the reasons the guerrilla aspects of the American Revolution was successful.

I also majored in history. Don't rape history with your REVISIONIST LIES.

The vast majority of Colonials who died on Revolutionary War battlefields did so with British arms in their hands.

And that was my point, before you drug it off into the weeds: that just because some Chav dies with a corporate phone in his hand, it does not make him a corporatist.

/the Kentucky Rifle/Pennsylvania Rifle was far less common than modern fanboys would have you believe. The Brown Bess is what nearly every front line soldier on both sides carried, period.

pxlboy: BolloxReader: pxlboy: BolloxReader: Huh. Only people I know who use Blackberries are engineers who work as defense contractors. And not just now-- the ONLY people I've known with Blackberries have been either corporate executives or engineers.

Are those the people rioting in the UK? Because that's not the image that the word "hooligan" brings to my mind.

around the states, you see kids who use low-end blackberries as glorified text messaging devices

Huh, guess I just don't hang around "kids". But then I had texting disabled on all my phones dating back to my Radio Shack tenure, about ten years ago, when I grew to hate cell phones with a passion. So I also don't pay much attention to what random electronics crap people around me are twiddling their thumbs on these days. I only pay attention when someone shows off their latest collection of rare earth minerals, and only because I'm being polite about it.

i'm not hanging around with them, either -- but i see them when i'm out and about. i saw a lot of the younger crowd i worked with at comcast sporting blackberries and wondered what would compel some 22 year old kid in a call center to purchase a business device.

Those who have to use pay-as-you-go plans can get BlackBerry phones from places like VirginMobile. But not iPhones.

I rode the city bus and noticed that about a dozen of the riders had BlackBerry phones. But not an iPhone to be seen...

BULL. Like how we "crushed" the L.A. Riots so quickly and effectively, through superior manpower? Right.

The deterrent isn't so much the police as the potential for the owner of a shop you're looting to just blow you away with a shotgun or something. CA has the combination of what is very close to a total ban on law-abiding citizens owning firearms and using deadly force in the cities and an incredibly heavily-armed criminal class, which sort of eliminates this issue from the looter's perspective as they're statistically far better armed than the people they're robbing.

As a Californian getting a handgun for her birthday this year, I can tell you that this little part is grade-A bullsh*t.

I might not be able to get an Uzi with the pin filed down, but my AR-15 works just fine.

Although my DPMS .308 should quell riots at around 1900yds before they get within range of my house to throw said missles

I think we're all quite a bit safer with the morons trying to make their guns spray as many bullets as they can accidentally ruining them than encouraging them to find methods that actually work.

/opposing gun control doesn't mean handing guns out to kids like candy

Yes, this is a great idea! Let's take a bunch of rioting children and turn it into an actual social issue that someone might get angry at you for!

Great plan, guys!
