Lived in Lubbock, TX for 5 years (that's west Texas). Glad I moved, my friends that are there said it has been a miserable summer.

Things are looking up for the economy then:

And a good thing, too, because clearly it worked wonders.

What an ass. What a flagrant slap in the face to the Constitution, and that coont is still governor. Boggles my mind.

nunpunter: Jixa: Our entire yard is dead, the plants in the greenhouse are crispy and none of our trees even flowered this year. We couldn't afford to keep everything watered as much as it needed. Even our pepper plants didn't bear anything. That itself doesn't bother me. What scares me is that the soil from our lawn looks like it has absolutely no nutrients in it at all. I'm afraid the soil is barren and we'll never have grass in our yard again.

Who would have thought growing plants in the desert would be expensive/difficult?

Or that you're getting your water from Colorado.

Have you no pity for the few Farkers stuck here? It's just as bad for us too. We've run out of water, I hope we don't run out of beer next...

Individuals are encouraged also to sticky-tape stuffed toys to walls, spend the day in their pajamas, refuse to swallow or blink, collect and catalog roadkill, perform a seance to call upon the ghost of Sam Houston and invest in magic beans. All such actions are equally as effective as prayer in addressing the problems affecting the state of Texas.

I just wanted to drop in and let you guys know that California has been 5-10 degrees below normal for two years now, and that we got 300% of normal rainfall this year...perfectly spread out so we had no flooding.

Dear God,

We Prayed™ and you've missed the mark by making it rain several hundred miles north. Since your aim in infallible, this must mean that we've not said enough Prayers™. Please forgive us (except the gays) and let our next wave of Prayers™ move your ever-loving, forever-correct heart.

Yours forever (but not in a gay way),
Gov. Rick Perry

P.S. On a personal note, God, should I run for the President of Texa... I mean, the United States of America?

Not sure how big your lawn is, but one thing you may want to consider is to take some compost to spread over your lawn in autumn. Where I live it's about $1.50 for a 25lb bag I think, and I'd say you could get by with a bag ber square yard.
Not a horticulturist or anything, but when we moved into our new place, the lawn was weedy hardpacked dirt. Got ourselves an aerator, compost, seed and straw, and it really helped. We only had to spend about $100 bucks total.
Of course, I'm in Illinois, and we've had no shortage of rain, but as far as re-nurturing your lawn, the compost will help a bunch.

jake_lex: SpaceyCat: Yes, no wonder things are falling apart when they haven't been upgraded in 80 YEARS. WTF?!?! Put some money into your cities and areas! But NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, taxes are the devil!

If Rick Perry got his wish and Texas did become an independent nation, it would be a third world hellhole in no time at all.

Oh, there'd be a few rich places, like Dallas, Houston, and (maybe) Austin. But it would also have slums that people from Rio would be shocked by.

I'm thoroughly convinced that, should a teabagger like Bachmann or Palin or Perry be elected as President, within two years of inauguration people living along the US-Mexican border, in places like Texas and Arizona and California, will be living in poverty worse than that of Mexico. And the Mexicans will laugh and laugh and laugh when they deport desperate Americans back to their hellholes in the USA.
