Well it's going to be a hell of a ride!

So at the last minute, both Republicans and Democrats will bail over the side and swim to shore, just in time to watch the country plummet over the edge of the waterfall?

Sounds about right.

This is as lame as a duck. Not the metaphorical lame duck, either, but a real duck that was actually lame, maybe from stepping on a land mine or something.

Wow, a remarkably low derp article from USAToday. Not so much in the comments section...

What a piece of crap that was.

"Both sides suck because Democrats don't have a good enough plan to cut spending and the Tea Partiers... something... *mumble*... yeah."

No mention of the elephant (har!) in the room, and that's that this is all an exercise in futility unless TAXES ARE RAISED ON THE RICH AND CORPORATIONS.

Period.

No amount of spending cuts will solve our problem. We need more revenue.

So, supposed "job-creators," suck it up and star paying your share, or you'll be complicit in ending this noble experiment once and for all.

Close the NEA, the DEA, EPA and the other alphabet agencies and we will have lots of money to spend.
Its excessive rules regulations and restrictions that are preventing America from being prosperous.
Those millionaires in Congress want higher taxes on everyone except themselves. Obama is VERY wealthy. He got $5 million from the autobiography that Bill Ayers wrote for him

So the USA Today has adopted the Fark Independant (tm) motto?

Both sides are bad. So vote Republican.

2011-08-08 09:21:05 AM
both sides are bad? bullshiat.

i love how this article tries so hard for the "balance" thing. it really understands that republicans own this, as boehner put it - "98 percent." but it has to throw in a few digs at the dems ('they have no long-term plan to cut spending. well, except for obama's plan to cut spending.') just to stop the wingnuts from crying "librul media!!1!!!".

but the fact remains that obama offered entitlement cuts and the republicans offered nothing. zero. zip. nada. they own this downgrade. and they own the coming double dip.

here's a clue for the craven media: sometimes one side is right and the other is wrong. sometimes "balance" is bad*.

After dozens of years of borrow, spend, repeat..., the democrats and republicans were overjoyed to have a new group to point to for the blame - the tea party terrorists

Isn't it time to change? I hope so.

Speaking of something going over Niagra Falls, how about the state of journalism in the US. They can't even bring themselves to nut up and mention the obvious TeaParty elephant in the room and it's impact over the last 2 years on the state and reputation of our country, because they're absolutely petrified of getting an angry letter or being labeled "liberal elite" by the likes of Rush Limbaugh.

their bosses are more than happy with the way things are going and are probably bankrolling various "Tea Party" Astroturf groups.

Both sides are bad.

The key here, though, is that one side is an axe-murdering sociopath that has just locked a bunch of hostages in a closet, doused it in gasoline and set it on fire out of some insane religious zealotry while the other side is out on the street conning people in a shell game on a folding table.

generallyso: Fixed

And this "democrats are spineless" thing is bull too. What are they going to do? The republicans have repeatedly locked arms and threatened mass filibusters unless they get what they want and they've been rewarded for it with electoral knock outs. When the democrats try to do anything like that the people turn on them and blame them for being stubborn children and blocking progress.

We are getting exactly the representation in Washington that we, as a voting populace, asked for.

Yes, the majority of it has been caused by a few angry old people and stupid Southern hicks with brains the size of walnuts, but they wouldn't have been able to elect such blatantly insane people if anybody else had bothered to actually go and farking vote. The teabaggers, corporate whores and religious nuts that are causing so many of our current problems didn't win because they had all that much support, they won because all the normal people looked at that ballot, looked at the teabaggers and went "meh, I think I'll just stay home and watch TV".

The only thing worse than the politicians in Washington right now is the public. We're the lazy idiots that put them there in the first place and can't seem to get angry enough at the perpetual ass-raping we are receiving to throw them back out and tell that 25% of the country that is verifiably out to destroy us all to either sit down and STFU while the adults fix their mess or move to another country where their ridiculous dictatorial, theocratic ideology of hate would be more welcome.

The sad thing is that a little more than thirty years ago, we had been on this luxury liner, and then some guy named Ron and his gang of pirates said "Hey! I want to steer this baby for a while. Woo this is fun! What do you mean I'm burning up too much fuel? Is that an iceberg over there? Let's take a closer look."

wow, that's an old talking point - one that's been used to argue against every piece of corporate regulation for a hundred years. the big three used that same reasoning to argue against seat belts, safety glass, airbags, etc. etc.

I don't believe that Democrats don't know how to fight. Democrats are trying to build something and Republicans are trying to destroy something. Republicans want to dismantle a lot of government and change the role of government in our lives. Republicans have the pleasure of being in a place where "the worst that could happen" is pretty much in line with their philosophy about the role of government. Sure, they'd rather get there "peacefully" but a certain level of getting there "catastrophically" will suffice.
