Would have been slightly funnier if subby wrote the headline as "Harper Lee's got somethin' to say. And then she ain't gonna say no more", but, whatever

Some people, like Harper Lee, only have one good book in them and so they write just one book.

Other people only have one good book in them, but keep churning out crappy sequels to Ender's Game anyway.

She wrote one of the greatest books of modern times, what a contribution it has been. I for one would love her to write more, but she created a book so vast in it's scope & scale...that it couldn't be approved upon!

Just out of curiosity, which books didn't you like? I stopped after the first 3. They're sort of a package deal. After that, it sort of goes the way of Dune. But I liked the first 3.

That's been bounced around a lot over the years. I suspect that Capote did have some editorial input, but it still is Lee's story.

Anyone can be a hero.

I think she sets a fine example for folks coming up in a fame-obsessed society that think that branding, PR and cross-promotion synergy are as important as having any real talent.

I'd love to have a Boo Radley prequel. It's be just like the Star Wars Episodes I, II and III. We could see the boy develop into a freak nightmarish man who has one last good act in him. WHY WON'T HARPER LEE BE MORE LIKE GEORGE LUCAS?

It's funny because it is true.

What's not funny is the number of people in here parroting the old theory that Capote wrote most of the book. It's not funny because it is false. Goddamn lemmings, all of you.

Yes, yes. I have written a full length manuscript on Capote's works that have bounced around a few academic presses (in other words, it will never get published). It appears Capote certainly helped her in some passages throughout the book. I just think Lee knew to leave well enough alone.

shiat, she got what every first time author wants. She is the example that launches tens of thousands of nauseatingly bad first books each year.

A semi-autobiographical novel of growing up during a significantly different period of american history. This adds up to "Home Run" in getting your book picked up as required school reading. But you're not going to have that set of requirements in your book.

Now I've got this stuck in my head:

There's only two songs in me and I just wrote the third
Don't know where I got the inspiration or how I wrote the words
Spent my whole life just digging up my music's shallow grave
For the two songs in me and the third one I just made
