Not surprising.

So can we safely say now that "Teabagger" is the appropriate term for these assholes who farked this up?

Trust is the major thing..with the freshman teabaggers in congress. That trust is gone on the global markets.
there's no security in the USA anymore that we will do the 'right thing' to stop a meltdown. As the TBers want a melt down to take down the black guy..at any cost.

I'm so glad that the economic terrorists in the Republican party decided to hold our debt ceiling hostage and refuse to raise revenue.

98% of what John Boehner wanted was a downgraded credit rating.

Probably stumbling into troll bait but the criticisms of S&P, and the reason for the downgrade, is that the deficit deal didn't do enough to address entitlements, which is exactly what the tea party was trying to reform. Democrats blocked those changes.

So a $2.4 Trillion hike in the debt ceiling wasn't enough? Sounds like there's more to S&P's decision than how much we can borrow. We have to be able to somehow pay it back, too.

Oh, wait. I forgot this is FARK. Damn George W. Bush and his TEA BAG PARTY!! It's all his fault!!

If you actually bothered to read the farking article:

S&P also cited dysfunctional policymaking in Washington as a factor in the downgrade. "The political brinksmanship of recent months highlights what we see as America's governance and policymaking becoming less stable, less effective, and less predictable than what we previously believed."

In the morning, I'm going to take a shower, have another pot of coffee, then serenely walk downtown and admire the sights as I take my stroll. Then, at the city circle, I'm going to find the nearest tea party member and serenely choke the life out of them.

Make sure to steal their hoverround, those things go for a lot on the open market.

Nononono...

It doesn't fit the narrative. The PROPER story is that all this is the Tea Party's fault, and any reasoning that a debt rating agency might give along the lines of "you owe too damn much money" is actually code for "you didn't let yourself borrow even more money fast enough."

They wanted to see $4t in deficit reduction. There was a bit over $2t. Not near enough. I don't even know that the Democrats were proposing $2t in new taxation, so even their plan would have resulted in a downgrade.

Yeah, but that gets in the way of a good finger pointing.

2011-08-06 12:00:12 AM
I'm not surprised by this. The debt ceiling is now officially a political bargaining chip during divided government. Once you do it once, everyone can justify doing it again. If you think that's stable enough for a AAA credit rating, you're insane.

2011-08-06 12:00:13 AM
However, one of S&P's explicit criticisms of the compromise was that it didn't address the biggest drivers of the nation's debt -- Social Security and Medicare -- and didn't allow for additional tax revenue.

You heard it here, folks: Standard & Poor's is a part of the liberal conspiracy.

2011-08-06 12:00:22 AM
The next few months will be a great time to buy treasury bonds. The rates will be higher than what we've seen in a generation.

2011-08-06 12:00:50 AM
This is either Obama's or S&P's fault.

That isn't what S&P says. They released a statement with the downgrade that specifically states political brinkmanship and Republican refusal to allow revenue increases along with too large of a deficit. They also stated that they have to consider the Bush Tax cuts being extended forever to be the new baseline because they believe that the Republican party will hold the country hostage if we think about letting them relapse.

You should read the report before you comment so that you don't look silly.

God hates Rick Perry. That's why the entire state of Texas is drying up and blowing away.

This is a result of the GOP win of the debt ceiling battle. They won. They got 98% of what they wanted. Great job, GOP. Your reward was that bill, Obama's defeat and your economy.

Yeah, I read it. That's why I said it appeared there was more to their decision than "the teabaggers holding the debt ceiling hostage." Just borrowing more money doesn't fix the financial problems.

Then I remembered how a typical Fark post should be worded.

Haha, already trying to spin it as the Democrats fault I see.

Good luck with that one.

You also should read S&P's justification of the downgrade. You don't have to guess which part of our government is primarily responsible for the downgrade, they come right out and tell you.

But then again, if you actually used your brain and read what S&P was saying, then you wouldn't be a pathetic Republican shill.
