So how does trickle-down supply-side work again? Rich people hire accountants or some shiat? Extra towel boys?

Subby hasn't met my wife. I'm pretty sure she's single-handedly keeping the economy running.

2011-08-02 09:57:12 AM
I blew a shiat ton of money on expensive dinners, drinking, and clothes. It's summer, which is the time for running up the credit card. Winter is the time to sit at home bored on the couch.

2011-08-02 09:57:20 AM
I'm with subby. Other than gas food beer and tobacco, I bought zilch.

"unexpectedly fell?" with the daily drumbeat of debt crises and job stagnation in the media - is it any wonder consumer confidence fell? this is all a self-fulfilling prophecy. it is in the media's interest to keep us terrified.

I didn't either, but my wife went to the hospital and came back with a baby and the bill for that was rather pricey.

How can the leaders of this nation afford necessities like those when they're being taxed to death by Obama and his liberal henchmen? Literally, they're paying 105% tax on every dollar they make, and the only reason they haven't packed up shop and moved to Tanzania is that they see a glimmer of hope that the 2012 elections will bring them somebody who understands what made this country great was no regulation and no taxes!

I traveled to Miami in June and pumped some tourist dollars into South Beach. I also left my toothbrush and some twizzlers at the hotel, so go nuts.

I too bought nothing memorable.

Unless you count my first house.

/years of renting finally paid off while all my friends paid close to double what I did for the same area.

Oh, and also airline tickets. Forgot about that.

With the Canadian dollar at like $1.08 or something, me and the family went down to Plattsburgh on the weekend and spent over $400.

Mostly electronics, mostly made in China, so I don't know if it really helped much.

I already don't have a job this summer because of federal budget cuts. Luckily the state can still afford to pay me unemployment. I'm not buying what anybody's selling.

Good. Downsizing consumption will require several economic contractions. Conservative greed and the market are doing what hippy policy never could.

I flew to Colorado. Probably did the hops farmers some good.

Trickle down doesn't seem to be working guys. Let's roll back the Regan tax cuts and bring back the 70% bracket.

I'm all for reducing consumption, but we have NEVER had any kind of 'hippy policy' in this country. It is always about making the economy grow by endless growth of consumption.

Well, it might help if (non-wealthy) people had money to spend......

Or the wealthy can always buy their own goods, thus boosting their sales..........

4/10. Extra point for effort, but still not up to our usual trolling standards.

As much as I hate Bill Gates, he and many of his best buddies have repeatedly asked to be taxed more.

You saying Victoria Jackson is a liar? She said it's the rich "job creators" that drive the economy, could she be wrong?

If they think June was bad wait until they see the numbers for July.

I talked with several people who said their stores were empty in July and have never seen fewer shoppers.

A Real American would know the answer to that, and I'd be doing the country a disservice if I simply told you the answer.

I bought a car in June. And in June I paid for the airline-tickets for a rather expensive vacation I took in July [to Disney World]. See, I'm helping the economy.
