My brother was the best man and I was the photographer for a wedding in Kaunas several years back. Best time of my life. Women are beautiful, the vodka flows freely, and they truly are a great people. Loved everywhere we went during that visit. And dear God do they hate the Russians. With good reason obviously.

The Belarussians will probably give in.. they are known for their glass jaws, particularly when fighting Russians

Because all this "unification" worked out so well the last time.

If this ends up easing visa requirements so we western men can get some of that Minsk minky, I'm all for it.

Let's kick this around for another 15 years. Won't happen with Lukashenko, the only man with a bigger ego than Putin, around. Add the fact Belarus is a basket case economically, politically, and socially

It seems that every independent ethnic group neighboring Russia looks down on the Russians. In Poland, they often use the word "primitives" when describing their neighbors.

All three are states parties to the international ban on land mines. Estonia apparently still has a stockpile left though.

Uh, no...

Economically, Russia moved to the right on the dissolution of the Soviet Union, as the Soviet system was the extreme, extreme left. The move is more of a libertarian move than a true "conservative" one though, as there was nothing in existence to "conserve".

DON'T !!!

Yeah the women are smoking hot but the food and climate suck! While I was there it was dark around 11pm and light at 3 am. Not to mention it was in the 90s and they haven't invented A/C yet.

And don't get me started on the winters!!

lukashenko shut down universities, raided newspapers, put journalists, professors, and opposition candidates in prison after torturing them, etc etc etc.

I wouldn't say look down on; I'd say despise. The Muscovite regimes have been raping, killing, and attempting to erase the history of their neighboring peoples for centuries, all under the guise of "uniting" the Slavs. Poland in particular has been a focus of Muscovite wrath as it tended to act as the organizer of opposition to Muscovite imperium.

Think how bad lake effect snow is. Now imagine you have the North Sea and Baltic Sea to your east. Lake effect snow off Lake Michigan is bad, worse off Lake Superior and worst off the Baltic.

I would indeed have to imagine it...

since Belarus is land-locked.

How far inland is it still lake effect snow? 300 km?

The US has never signed any anti-land mine treaties.

Mostly because of the DMZ, but also, you know, for when situations like this arise. Who'd have thought post-Soviet Russian expansion might be a problem again?
