I'm with you - but we got ONE legitimate MLB pitcher in exchange for what might be two legitimate MLB pitchers = hope we're not renting him for a season or two.

He's still got a few years left on his contract, so we'll have him for at least three or four seasons.

Rumor is that there was serious concern about the injury White sustained to his hand earlier this season. They think that, even once he's rehabbed and able to pitch again, the injury could be a lingering issue.

his contract with rockies was thru 2014, but contract clause says if he's traded, 2014 is gone. by virtue of the trade, tribe has him til 2013 unless he re-signs.

I've been text three times tonight how the Pirates picked up Derrick Lee (really don't care but I will say Alex Presley is pretty awesome) - Indians and Pirates are in the same boat - maybe make the playoffs and get embarrassed in the first round. But as little of what I know about baseball the teams I will pull for are the Indians, Tigers, and Pirates because they come from real cities.

I dunno, it's anyone's guess what happens in October. The Indians have a long history of going in and making noise as the underdog. Coincidentally, it's usually by eliminating the goddamn Yankees. If we can pull of the Ludwick deal that we're supposedly only hours away from, that should more than keep our outfield afloat until Sizemore and Choo get back for the final stretch of the pennant race. Hopefully Jimenez fares better against AL hitters than he did against the NL this year. He didn't do terribly, and on more than one occasion he suffered Justin Masterson-like losses with only 1-2 runs allowed and the team unable to give him any support, so his record should be better than it is. Hopefully he can get his ERA down, because we're expecting big things from him.

Still not sure how I feel about this. Best of luck Ubaldo. Can't imagine being told, "Hey, go out and pitch but you may be traded part way through the game."

Definitely a bold move. Unless they can renegotiate Jimenez's contract past 2013, the moves they're making now seem to say that they're prepping to try and make a three or four year run like they had between '95 and '97 when they won the division three times in a row and made the World Series twice.

I disapprove of breaking up the Cabrera-Cabrera team at 2B/SS. Though by the stats, they took the other kid because he hit .295 in the OF at AAA. That's badly needed if he can manage even .250.

Derek Lee from the Orioles. Old, but still a solid bat, which is something the Pirates need badly.

The Indians outfield situation is tricky because it's unclear if Grady Sizemore is ever going to fully recover from his knee injury a couple years back. He's already been on the DL three separate times this year, so it's doubtful that the Indians will retain his contract if he can't stay healthy. Expectations are that Ryan Ludwick will probably be traded to Cleveland sometime in the next twelve hours, which will provide some temporary coverage and a solid bat while Choo and Sizemore recover. In the long term, though, they've now got Ezequiel Carrera, whom the jury is still out on in regards to whether he can play at the big-league level, and Thomas Neal down in AAA.

The moral of the story is that it's nice to have depth.

CavalierEternal: The Indians outfield situation is tricky

That's a nice way of saying a flaming pile of shiat. La Porta is at .210, Sizemore can't be healthy to save his life and is a wasted career, Choo out and hitting for shiat this year. Brantley is the only bat out there that can be depended on from the start of this year, and Fukudome (and is that not the most fun name to say ever?) is a good hitter, but not a HR guy. Ludwick isn't that good either.

The Tribe are trying to take their entire minor league system apart for a year that hasn't been good for two months. This is a mistake and it's going to set the team back years. No prospects should have been dealt this year. So we miss the playoffs. We were supposed to be dead farking last. .500 is a major accomplishment, and we have talent coming out of the system across the board. We're blowing all that for nowhere near a sure thing.

This is a mistake.

As of right now, I think both sides can say they got what they wanted. The Rox got 2 top-of-the-line prospects (And Gardner is pretty good too, though he's struggling with the transition to AA a bit). The Indians got their ace. Really, either side could end up "winning" this trade.

White's injury was to his finger's ligament, and was described as typically seen in rock climbers. Same kind of injury that completely derailed the career of Adam Miller, and perhaps a sign that he can't take being a full-time starter. There's a reason you see so few starters that throw a splitter, it's awful for the finger. Him and Gardner can both end up being bullpen arms.

And we absolutely ROCKED that trade with the Giants. Goodbye, OCab... I'm not sorry to see you go. Neal is a right-handed bat that we pretty much needed, and could end up being a viable replacement for Sizemore if they decide Sizemore will never play healthy again.

/Sad to see Pomeranz go

CavalierEternal: LaPorta is our first baseman.

He can be rotated out to the OF if needed. But you're right, I forget he is just 1B now.

But stand back and look at this. This isn't enough to guarantee a run, not even close. The power is still just Asdrubal, and he's still under 20 HR. We've got two starters that can play for #1, and another couple who can play #5. There is no middle to the rotation, not a tested one at any rate. I'd say the rotation is now Jimenez-Masterson-Tomlin-Carrasco-Carmona, assuming Carmona stops giving up 8 run games. If not, leave Huff in the rotation. The only strength on this team is the bullpen.

This isn't enough to run the table, and they just gave away the future.

Nick Johnson is in AAA, and he's close to healthy. Wouldn't be surprised to see Nick called up to replace LaPorta at some point, though it would make the lineup even MORE lefty-heavy. We could see an all-lefty/switch hitting lineup at some point this year.

Carmona has done great over his last few starts, as has Huff. Carrasco, on the other hand, has not only pitched like sh*t, but he's mentally come apart at the seams. He desperately needs a stint in AAA to get himself together.

He seems to have really regained his composure since coming off of the DL. Whether or not he can continue to pitch at the level he has for the past couple of weeks will likely be the biggest deciding factor in how our rotation shapes out for the next 58 games.

Never knew so many indian fans lurked on fark.

I never understand trading away future talent 3-1, I think its really just idiotic, the philthies did it this year, the yankees did it a few years ago, and the braves did it(with the same player) a few years before that(the rangers should thank every braves fan for that, btw). The mets did this in the early 2000s and have never recovered, the philthies have now done this twice in successive seasons and that doesnt bode well for long term success.

Im just hoping liberty group sells the braves so they can get serious about competing again, this nickle and dime shiat is pathetic.

Nick's a statistician's player. He doesn't hit for power, and his average is kind of average, but most of his advanced stats suggest he's a pretty good hitter (OBA, wOBA, OPS, OPS+, etc.). Most fans don't really like watching players draw a bunch of walks, though. And if NJ makes the team, the Indians will have walk machines for half of their lineup (Brantley, Santana and Fukudome all have good/great plate discipline. Zeke & Chis are pretty good in this department too)
