The cops asked the kid if everything was OK. He replied, "Well officer, I noticed a little wobble on those left turns and the steering goes to shiat over 80 or so but, all in all, it's a solid little truck. "

Well, I would drive 100 miles, and I would drive 100 more, if my dear old Dad was passed out on the floor.

The kid couldn't have been any worse a driver than the jerk-offs who ride in the center lane doing 80 miles an hour while texting.

Dad: Drive all you want son, time will come when you're 12 and drunk like me.

Kid: Yeehaw!

Would you rather drunk dad got behind the wheel? Also, this is why you drink at home; because you don't have to go anywhere.

The kid has to learn how to drive some day.

Back in my day; I had to drive my drunk dad to his job at the mill. And if I didn't try to run down the pedestrians; I ... totally forgot what I was saying.

This has all the makings of a great country music song. Booze? Check. Pickup truck? Check. Father named Billy Joe? Check. 8 year old driving down the interstate? Check.

what a thoughtful and considerate dad for knowing that he should not drive.

Ooops... I was thinking of desertion as in abandonment. I didn't realize it also meant not providing sufficient care in a situation like that.

/figured child endangerment would have been more applicable.

There are worse things than being single. Imagine, one day 10 years ago "Billy Joe" might have been biatching on FARK and said "why do all the asshats get the chicks?"

They were headed from MS to TX. Probably an emergency trip, since dad didn't have time to sleep off his booze. His boy only had to drive the first shift. And if dad was still passed out halfway through Louisiana, it was probably the sister's turn to drive next.

I think this is a solid show of family teamwork. I wonder who was waiting for them in Texas.

I figure if you're so passed out your 8 year old can drive for 100 miles on a highway, you've effectively abandoned your children. He obviously wasn't in any condition to act as a guardian.
