(Media Matters)   Fox News tries to link volcanoes on the moon to discrediting climate change science. Fortunately, Bill Nye the Science Guy is there   (mediamatters.org) divider line 205

redcard: Bill's ability to not call them utter farking morons and just laugh maniacally is to be lauded here.

See, this is the problem I have with "debating" these nutters: They're laughably insane and/or stupid

well, at least you warmers are aware that the CERN results are being kept quiet. Why would that be when every other study that confirms AGW is trumpeted? You guessed it! The cosmic ray theory is valid and it's going to destroy the current AGW "CO2 concentration as a climate driver" theory

But you warmers will never accept it. who cares. It's your children who will be carbon slaves to the ruling elite

Watching Fox News is probably fatal. I just wish the consequences were far more immediate.

2011-07-29 09:29:51 AM
Although I knew that there were whalers on the moon, I didn't know about the volcanism. I previously thought that the moon was a cold, dead, rock. So the stupidity at Fox was good for something.

PunGent: People watch Fox, they get dumber...you can't explain that!

/is it correlation, or causation, or both?

wore a T-shirt to work today that reads "make it idiot-proof and someone will make a better idiot" so REALLY getting a kick here.

thamike: stirfrybry: warmer.

I know you guys are trying to push this as some sort of response to "birther," but it's really just pitiable and won't catch on. There are just too many people with even below average intelligence who think it's retarded.

The pejorative term is now "Alarmist." Their models are "alarmist models." Do keep up.

Pocket_Fisherman: Actually NASA did a good job of discrediting a lot of it yesterday.

Link (new window)

FTFL: The data also supports prior studies which suggested that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide trap is far lesser heat than what have been claimed by the global warming doomsters.

Name calling and iffy grammar? Is that what you expect from your scientific reporting? I'm alarmed. Maybe I'm an alarmist.

2011-07-29 09:30:55 AM
I like how Bill talked very slowly, repeated himself, avoided big words and technical jargon, and used analogies to clarify his point, as if he was speaking to a very small child. You can't take chances with the average Fox News viewer.

He didn't even talk like that on his old Disney show, and that was FOR children.

One of you farkers with PS skills get me an image of a FOX News analyst attempting to convince people the deathstar really is a moon post haste.

Shut up, libtard. That article CLAIMS that GW is real. Why don't you go make out with Owl Snore.

I love it when people don't even know which side they are on any more!!

This guy is making fun of a "Denier" by calling him a "Libtard" when the guy is obviously posting a link to a Trumped Up article about the Roy Spencer Paper...

A W E S O M E...

Meh. This is why he said "I asked the colleague to make the results clear, however, not to interpret. This would go immediately into the highly political arena of the climate change debate. One has to be clear that it is the cosmic radiation is only one of many parameters."

It's primarily so that people like you wouldn't latch onto it and say: "HA! See? Cosmic radiation causes global warming!" He's trying to make sure it's understood that it's merely one factor among many.

And, you know what? You're proving his point for him.

So you believe one scientific theory over another scientific theory? I thought you science deniers hated science cuz it's way too hard to understand? And where exactly does your information come from? Certainly not from anyone reputable.

The Fox News Channel's basic rule for voter training is repetition, repetition, repetition. One nail at a time will build a house. Repetition will eventually produce a well trained Republican voter.

So a man who's degree is a MS in engineering is now the world authority or climate science? If I want to build something I'll call him, but if I want to know something global warming about I'll call a real scientist, you know with a PhD in the a field relevant to the topic on hand

Oh god, I ain't the goodest writer by far, but sometimes editing my PI's manuscripts was more work than actually performing the experiments.

The cosmic ray experiments were so good the warmer scientists are forced to make no comments. LOL

you mean a dead link? yeah, i'd ignore it, too.

Pretty much anything the media pushes is going to be pro-AGW or anti-AGW propaganda. Real solutions don't make money, and there's always someone who will try to nitpick them to death to make themselves look smarter and leave the rest of the world more desperate.

Reporters write stories about scientific articles, not the scientific articles. The link from International Business Times was written about a scientific article. Columnists write garbage about things they don't understand to sensationalize their pre-formed conclusions. That's how you can tell the difference between news and opinion. Opinion pieces are charged with emotion and, especially in anti-intellectual pieces, name calling.

I think he's qualified enough to tell a Fox News host that ancient volcanoes on the moon are not evidence that global warming is a hoax, and that the moon is smaller than the earth.

BS, actually. Regardless, it doesn't take someone with more than a GED and a few days of reading to be able to explain the basics to a talking head. How about you point out for us where he was wrong instead of stooping to a baseless ad hominem attack?

So the moron talking head that equated billions-of-years-extinct volcanoes on the MOON to being able to refute climate science on EARTH is the one we should believe here?

And based on the statement, it seems more like the guy thinks that either burning fossil fuels causes volcanos, or volcanos ON THE MOON are contributing to global warming ON EARTH.

C'mon, that's moronic.

What is the modern day equivalent of Beakman's World, Bill Nye, or Mr. Wizard? Is there anywhere our kids are getting science today? If not this could certainly explain a lot.

Who authored the report in that story? Who gathered the data? Were they the same people? Did the actual report conclude that GW isn't happening and that AGW is thus false? Do the authors of that paper have any long-established, direct links to climate-change denial and massive business interests to the same?

Answers:
1. A professor at UAB, for the Heartland Institute... not NASA
2. NASA satellites
3. No
4. No, it showed that worst-case climate models are too aggressive in their predictions of heat retention.
5. Absofreakinlutely.

Oh stfu.

An increasing body of observations gives a collective picture of a warming world and other changes in the climate system... There is new and stronger evidence that most of the warming observed over the last 50 years is attributable to human activities.[1]
No scientific body of national or international standing has maintained a dissenting opinion;

I realize you people like to think "I have an opinion, therefore it is equally valid to what scientists think", but much like creationism - science is right, and every mouth breather arguing against it is wrong.
