Good, we could use another war to distract us from the disfunctionality of our representatives.

This is all Obama's fault.

He should be down there on the border creating a barrier fence with his giant Kenyan penis.

If you haven't done so, you should probably pick up the book Viva Max written by Jim Lehrer of PBS News fame. It's about a Mexican General who leads his men, a military band and marching unit into Texas purportedly to perform at a parade. Unknown to his men, he actually intends to retake the Alamo and when they learn of it, they go along with it to a point. I don't think the movie captures the nature of the book, even though it's got some funny scenes and decent performances.

Sounds like a Southwestern version of "The Mouse that Roared".

I heard the explanation from someone living on the Mexican side of the Rio Grande Valley...most soldiers in north Mexico come from the south of Mexico, because of retaliation against families. These guys can barely read much less understand a map. If you've made border crossings in Laredo etc, you know that once you get past a certain point, you can't turn around u.nless you drive over the median.

These guys, a bunch of 5'2" barely literate Mayans with no clue where they were, failed to exit and found themselves transiting the Rio Bravo.

That's what happened.

Scary? Even if the Mexican millitary regulars invaded full speed to the north, guns blazing away it still would not be scary. Mildly amusing for the local rednecks and integrated hispanic population possibly but definately not scary. The moment a US millitary vehicle started up to counterattack a text message from the local gun clubs would show up to say "Sokay, go back to your other wars. We got this covered".

50 million heavily armed rednecks with itchy trigger fingers reside in Texas. And the local hispanics would be selling them taco's while firing southward themselves.

/local hispanic chatter: "were here now, quickly close the damn border!"

I remember going to see that movie with my parents in the late '60s (maybe 70 or 71). I can still remember the theme music. Kinda Al Hirt-ish trumpets, etc. Now if I could just remember where I put my car keys.

Wow, I did a mapquest search for the "Donna-Rio Bravo International Bridge over the Rio Grande" and it took me to New Jersey.

No wonder the Mexicans got lost!

I'm glad someone made this point. It's the same in the bridge crossings over El Paso. Once you've crossed, you can't turn back until you're already past customs. And unfortunately, yeah a lot of those southern Mexican soldiers are indeed uneducated, and see nothing wrong with holding up one of those fake "drug/bomb detectors" with the antennas sticking out... (not that they could disagree with a command from their officers anyway)

I don't cross nearly as much, but I still see the soldiers walking about with those things...

I have a hard time not facepalming hard at that.

Three accidental bridge crossings is enemy action. Or was it shame on me? I never can remember.

In all seriousness, relax. I've come pretty damned close to doing the same thing. Once you get stuck in the wrong lane there is nowhere to go but into the neighboring country. The idiots on the linked page's comments section that think this was an armed scout or recon force need to pay a visit to the border. There is no need to scout our defenses or infrastructure, it's all public knowledge.

Yep, you get in line, and then you find yourself with one car after another behind you. It just isn't possible to turn back after that.
