Hello, what is your emergency?

Oh, relax, that's not too bad.

Blood everywhere, you say? In cases like these, it usually looks a lot worse than things actually are.

No, really, let me tell you about my daughter.

...

2003-09-07 10:12:46 PM
sounds like nothing can go wrong here.

2003-09-07 10:13:42 PM
At least she's not doing tech support somewhere.

2003-09-07 10:15:51 PM
women

If this is true, then the saving grace to the story is that she will be reminded, every single day she works, of what she could have done to save her daughter.

Although she should be in jail for life for her refusal to summon life-saving assistance.

This is a newspaper report about another newspaper report. Fairly incestuous journalism, no?

Besides, the original report reportedly appeared in News of the World, which, I hear, is one of the more disreputable tabloids in the UK... maybe not Weekly World News caliber, but not much more trustworthy.

2003-09-07 10:24:13 PM
Ironic?

2003-09-07 10:26:26 PM
C'mon guys, give her a break. I bet she'll treat each caller just like they were part of her family.

2003-09-07 10:27:46 PM
well as long as she doesn't have any other daughters call in it should be ok

2003-09-07 10:29:38 PM
Who would know better than this woman, the importance of timely calls for assistance. She has had 3 years in the slammer to think about it. Perfect penance.

2003-09-07 10:37:57 PM
wheres the ironic tag when you need it

2003-09-07 10:40:35 PM
just to keep up with the slams against women
What do you do when your dishwasher stops???

2003-09-07 10:40:58 PM
macabre: No, that's in November.

Seriously, she's doing the right thing. I mean, it's like becoming a cop if your family was murdered, to use a Hollywood cliche.

2003-09-07 10:41:03 PM
Around here, you have a criminal record of any type and you are automatically disqualified from entering the room where the 911 calls are answered, let alone answer a phone. This story is absolutely amazing.

2003-09-07 10:46:30 PM
the women bashing stuff is really creepy, btw.

In my head, I imagine what the poster must look like and it's not pretty.

More like becoming a cop if you murdered your family.

2003-09-07 10:57:48 PM
With a last name like "Creed", no wonder she sucks.

2003-09-07 10:59:02 PM
In America we dial 911, not 999. Wild stuff.

2003-09-07 11:05:10 PM
Clevershark, you are talking out of your arse. The News of the World is one of the world's greatest investigative newspapers.

OK, take the "w" and "o" off the first word of the post. There you go, you can sleep happy tonight in the knowledge that only men are evil.

2003-09-07 11:21:20 PM
frank2, i'm sure if we used 999 here we'd get a few fundies b!tching that it's too close to 666...

2003-09-07 11:22:57 PM
Personally, I think that's maybe not the best decision in the interest of the taxpayers. But then again, this is Europe we're talking about, so who cares?

2003-09-07 11:24:20 PM
For once, an appropriate use of the Ironic tag, yet the submitter chose Asinine. How ironic.

2003-09-07 11:29:29 PM

Neither of these stories appear to be all that specifically related to women... but then I guess that if you want to see victimization you'll see it whether it's there or not.

2003-09-07 11:32:50 PM
people like her have a special place in hell reserved for them.

2003-09-07 11:36:08 PM
That's not unusual.

Jeff Tracy started International Rescue after his wife succumbed to a massive string failure.

2003-09-07 11:39:20 PM
Hell, one of the stories is just about a woman who crashed her car. No bashing there. People like you piss me off.

2003-09-07 11:42:14 PM
I'm confused. How did the daughter get a broken rib in the first place? Was it an accident? Did Creed inflict it upon her? If she did it, you'd think failing to call an ambulance would be the least of this woman's crimes.

Also, this woman is in prison for life, yes? Why is she working for 999 to begin with? Why isn't she stamping license plates or something?

Of course, that would be if it's true at all. This story's only source is another (questionable) newspaper. The reporter didn't even bother to call British Telecom to get an original statement, instead simply stealing News of the World's quote. How lame.

2003-09-07 11:45:53 PM
The woman != the person that beat her.

Graham Sate is the one that's in jail. Please read article more carefully.

2003-09-07 11:47:46 PM
It's funny, but her job there and her prior tragic inaction are completely unrelated. What she did (or rather didn't do) cannot be accurately used to judge how she might perform in her new job in any way.

2003-09-07 11:56:30 PM
We don't use 999 in the US because there's a greater chance it'll get accidentally dialed.

/not that anybody cares

darth_shatner, wouldn't it be easier to just allow that both men and women can be capable of certain anti-social acts and just maybe it's not predicated on too much x chromosome?

2003-09-08 12:28:16 AM
This woman is a victim, for Christ's sake!! She had to endure watching her boyfriend beat her daughter to death and then agonize an additional 90 minutes on whether to call for assistance while her daughter lay there, probably moaning, crying and generally creating a hectic environment not conducive to just sitting on your ass. She's a victim I tell ya.

For everyone else who didn't read the article...

In 1998, Graham Sate, 30, was sentenced to life for murdering the five-year-old girl, who suffered 167 bruises and a fractured rib. Her mother, Sharon Creed, 30, who did nothing to help her daughter, was jailed for three years.

2003-09-08 12:44:02 AM
Here is some more info:

A post-mortem examination found extensive injuries on the girl's body, said Mr Stokes. There were abrasions to her face, swellings on her head and bruising on her body. She had also suffered a broken rib.

The pathologist discovered that her liver had been split and that there had been haemorrhaging in her intestine, consistent with her being punched or kicked and repeatedly prodded.

Mr Stokes also said that neighbours Sofiah and Gregg Baker had noticed Lauren "was absolutely covered in bruises".

"Lauren was not herself, she was very very frightened," Mrs Baker told the jury. "I don't think she clearly understood what was going on. She was covered in bruises. Head to toe."

...which I thought it was until people started complaining about the title of the topic. Oh well.

2003-09-08 12:53:02 AM
It wasn't the title of the topic. It was the "Women" post and about 20 other misogyBoobiess made by various farkers today in other threads. It just starts to get old pretty quickly, you know...

2003-09-08 12:56:18 AM
And incidentally, why would those characters be filtered?

2003-09-08 12:57:56 AM
It's just like a reformed drug addict teaching people not to use drugs.... But man that's sick!!!!!

It's not ironic, nothing is ever ironic. Especially on fark.

From the original article

He was sent to a young offenders' institution for seven years in 1993 for the attempted murder of Carol Wilkinson six years ago.

He was released in December 1996 after serving two-thirds of his sentence, and was on licence to Humberside Probation Service until late July 1997.

Nice to see the judicial system doing it's finest to let serious criminals get back on the street with a minimum of fuss. Good call judge.

Point taken - fair call.

of all of the jobs she had to take, come on. Now if the story got her side and she said something on how this is a little way of me making up for me mestake then yeah I would say no problem, go all at it, BUT with just this story and not the mothers side i have to say why that job of all jobs.

i dono its just me

2003-09-08 01:08:49 AM
But I still fear you, darth shatner, offspring of two great evils. (although Shatner was pretty funny in Showtime, making fun of himself)

2003-09-08 01:21:47 AM
Eh, one too many beers. I still call lazy reporting.
