(Some Nikon Guy)   Here's a chess set that really helps you focus on your game--it's composed entirely of Canon and Nikon lenses. Bishop to ƒ/8   (lensrentals.com) divider line 23

Cute, but the board is set up wrong.

I think 200mm f/2 at bottom right (rook), with lens hood attached to make it look bigger. So maybe 300 mm f/2.8 to its left, similar diameter but longer. Presumably 400, 500, and 600 make up the middle with 600mm f/4 as queen. I don't recognize the pawns.

Who knows Canon lenses?

I rented a 600mm f/4 once. Nice, but I can't talk myself into spending $10,000 to own a top of the line Nikon brand supertelephoto.

Photography nerd is a division of nerddom that I will never have the money to join.

I don't feel deprived because of this... perhaps I feel grateful, even liberated.

Pretty sure it's

600/4 king, 500/4 queen, 400/2.8 bishops, 300/2.8 knights, 200/1.8 rooks(? - my best guess), 70-200/2.8 pawns.

From the company's site linked in the article

The complete 32 piece set includes 70-200 f/2.8 pawns, 600mm f/4 Kings and 500mm f4 Queens, 400mm f/2.8 Bishops, 300mm f/2.8 Knights, and 200mm f/2.0 Rooks in black (Nikon) and white (Canon).

Yeah but that's not random, and assuming the queen is meant to be shorter, than of course it's set up backwards.

You can rent the Lensrentals Chess set for just $9,221.00 per week

That's pretty steep for a bunch of lenses that have been abused via full contact chess.

Meh, I'd pass, I guess. I've seen worse, but I've seen better. I mean, I don't know exactly what it is about former Eastern Bloc women that turns me off, but I think it's the chin/jawline. Looks like something out of Roger Ebert's mirror.

I can think of some actually useful things to do with what looks like a quarter million dollars in glass.

Probably more now considering the shortage of high end glass from both companies due to the tsunami.

10k for a Nikon 600mm is cheap.

The 600/4 AF-S VR alphabet soup used to be a little under $10K. I guess I didn't check since the last dollar-yen revaluation.

My big lens is a Sigma bought off eBay.
