I never understood the fascination with football. It is the most boring sport. At least Hockey people lose teeth and bleed.

"Labor"? These flamers in tights play a kid's game. It's not in any way, shape or form "labor". It's laborious to watch, yes.

NHL Fark threads > NFL broadcasts.

Yes, this is the perfect condition in which the Detroit Lions will win enough games to go onto the playoffs and dare I say win the Superbowl.

I don't know much about football other than it bores me.

Is this whole thing just a bunch of pansy football players crying that they don't make enough millions, so they're refusing to play?

My guy friends try to justify their behavior, but I feel like they're full of it.

2011-07-24 10:37:08 AM
Anyone got an over/under on the ratio of "Haters" (see above) to "Thank God We Have Football Again" posts?

2011-07-24 10:38:07 AM
Boo. I was hoping for a canceled season and NBC playing nothing but Rugby World Cup games.

It's more the owner's being greedy bastards and squeezing hard because they hold all the cards. Most players don't make all that much over their lifetimes, the owners are all worth hundreds of millions. The owners are much stronger than the players.

I find it interesting how the NFL absolutely pisses all over fans and yet fans keep coming back for more. Go to a high school game, if you love the game so much. Don't endorse a bunch of greedy business suits like the NFL.

And it is a boring game.

I don't know, haters have the early lead. Though I think you should include "rich bastards" posts in your ratio, should pretty much fill out the pie chart that way.

Superbowl Champions - Jacksonville Jaguars.

Book it. Done.

Given the respective directions of the teams... right now I'd be willing to bleed Honolulu blue if I were a Bengals fan.

This will be bad for the economy. Think of all the low wage low IQ people you know that are football fans, now think about how much they spend on merchandise and tickets. Without the NFL they may actually have used that money to better their situation.

I guess it's going to be popular to hate the NFL for a few more weeks.

The football business from my geographic area is superior to the football business from your geographic area.

I keep telling myself that I live close enough to Indianapolis that I could be a colts fan, but I jus can't bring myself to give up on the Bengals. I'm like a battered wife that keeps coming back

I know, in football all they do is break each other's legs, twist ankles, knock people unconcious and launch themselves head-first at a guy who's running at them full speed, all while trying to catch, throw or run with a little leather ball. What's to like?

NHL is basically guys in fat suits playing bumper cars - it takes no real talent. NFL on the other hand is a man's sport with strength, intelligence and skill required

This whole "lock out" thing will end up being a brilliant marketing maneuver by the league. How else would they have kept casual fans interesting in their brand during the off season?

Did anyone really think they would miss any regular season games?
I predicted it would end the night before the first Sunday game with a make-up of the Thursday season opener. It would have made a better story.

Land Ark: Did anyone really think they would miss any regular season games?

They easily could have, but DeMaurice Smith pulled off one of the better modern-day labor negotiation coups when they revealed their lockout insurance. All of a sudden, the leverage of the owners being able to sit out a season disappeared.

That will be a really weird day for me, a bittersweet moment so to speak. Al is like an abusive parent. You love him, because "Luke, I am your father" but he is that crotchety old man who is just never happy and by god no one else is going to be happy either. Bittersweet.

They can't afford for 'mericans to see Rugby. Too much action and not enough commercial time. I would rather watch Ruby, but it's never going to happen. Americans think it's the same thing as soccer(football).
