Two different ethnic backgrounds? So Irish and Scots-Irish?

So, fake weddings are illegal in Ireland? So does that mean that if someone is producing a film, they have to leave the country for any wedding scenes, and then return to finish filming? That is just retarded.

The last sentence stood out for an otherwise apologetic storyline-

One wedding guest has been referred for deportation.

If we allow mixed race marriages, it will ruin the institution of marriage for everyone else. Besides, think of the children: mixed race couples can't produce pure-bred children, so they shouldn't be allowed to have sex.

Weddings between a citizen and non-citizen for the sole purpose of providing a British passport to the non-citizen.

Ireland is really weird about weddings. Me and my fiancee have been talking about doing a destination wedding, ireland came up, and we looked into it, but apparently you have to establish residency to get married there... guess they dont want our tourism dollars.

There's no greater way to say Fark You to your friends and family than to make them pay large sums of money to:

1. Take time off work (lost wages).
2. Travel a long distance (travel costs, room and board, etc).

Just so that they can have the privileged of watching you get married. Do everyone a favor and get married locally. The honeymoon is when you travel.

WTF Indeed: Two different ethnic backgrounds? So Irish and Scots-Irish?

My father was a Scotsman, and my mother is from Northern Ireland. Apparently theirs was considered to be a mixed marriage to the point that my mother's family continually refused to call my father by his given name, but insisted on referring to him as "Jock" (which is a generic and slightly pejorative term for a Scotsman). This was especially funny bearing in mind that the coasts of Scotland and Northern Ireland are only about 12 miles apart at the narrowest.

They dont have to come, we really dont care and were not gonna resent anybody who doesnt come. Were looking at all inclusive places in mexico now and that, especially package deals, are pretty cheap, esp since she works for a travel wholesaler. Were both from BIG catholic families, guest list of just aunts, uncles and cousins (not counting half or second anything) is in the low hundreds, add in friends, no way we could afford that. Weve been together for quite a while and dont need any kitchen appliances or linens, so why bother with the big day. Everybody who wants to come down to mexico with us for a few days can, were staying for 2 weeks, wedding and honeymoon in one, resort takes care of everything for a little extra.

Family usually doesn't come for the wedding and you just have a reception at a different time when getting married overseas.

/ Just went to a reception like this for a friend that married in Italy.

Mr McIlwee's solicitor Karina Breslin Carlin said: "I do have concerns that the Borders Agency have taken the view here, that if it's alleged this is a sham marriage, it's a great opportunity to go into this wedding ceremony and see how many Chinese nationals are there who may not have the correct paperwork in order.

Wow... That's actually aggressive for a immigration agency. Or is it the timid nature of ICE in the USA that makes this look aggressive? For all I know the rest of the world actually goes after illegals.

I know, right? Personally, I think it's an awesome idea for the government to storm in and break up weddings involving people of "suspicious" ethnicities, just to check their paperwork. I'm sure something like this is in the works in Arizona already.

This.

The United States is a pussy when it comes to going after illegals. Most other countries actually *GASP!* treat them like the criminals they are, chase them down, arrest them, and *GASP! again* ship them out.

Remember the thread the other day about the Canadian government cancelling 1800 fraudulently- obtained citizenships? I think it's only in the US that illegal immigrants have become numerous enough that they are able to enlist the aid of legions of sympathizers, some of them in government positions, who are ready and willing to help them break the law.

Everyone on FARK likes to make fun of Canada and France for being pussies, yet they actively seek out and deport illegals all the time. Are "sham" weddings usually attended by the families of the bride and the groom, with a priest, in a church, with a caterer and a band? Because if this is normal then ICE could spend every Sunday in April and May raiding weddings and checking papers
Well, maybe only the first Sunday in April, followed by a huge investigation and a shiat storm of national media attention, the resignation of several asshats from ICE and a dozen law suits costing the state millions.

What's next? Raiding funerals?

You take a "wide stance" in an airport men's room toilet stall and slide the money under while whispering "I'd like a tip, if you want to give me one, don't tell me your name though."
