You have a Nebelung kitty!

We had to put our little Kasumi (also a Nebelung) down 3 months ago. She was the sweetest little cat I've ever known - shy, demure, and easily spooked, but almost always up for a cuddle.

d1jeditech: Hey all, request for Good Thoughts and/or Prayers:

This last week my mother and father in-law lost their home and pets in a fire.

Chico was a little Yorkie, Dakota was a collie mix, DC and Trouble were cats. My in-laws had gone to sleep, and Dakota woke them with his barking, and they awoke to find the house on fire.

My mother in-law (Jaynie) has to use a wheel chair most of the time, father in-law (Bob) can get around, but has trouble walking. Bob wasn't able to get Jaynie out the door, but fortunately the firemen (i.e., Big Damn Heroes) got there, went in just before Jaynie's wheelchair caught fire and got her out, with only burns on her feet. They weren't able to go in and get the animals out though, the house was too far gone.

Whatever your beliefs, if you can send some good thoughts or say prayers for my in-laws and for the pets it would be appreciated.

I am beyond words. I can only offer my condolences to all.

L33t Squirrel:
*snip*

I woke up to my alarm and wondered why I had to peel the left side of my face off of the pillow. After investigating this mystery in the mirror, I discovered that I was the now-bemused owner of my own set of kitty whiskers; three bright red and parallel lines swept along my left cheek. Suffice to say, I got no end of strange looks from my fellow Soldiers, as every conversation started with, "Hey, LT, how's it- HOLYCRAP, what happened to you? o_O"

At first I started telling them what had happened, and then to be a smartass, I told them that I had cut myself shaving. I finally "shed" my whiskers after about a month. :)

Something similar happened to me. Zaz fell off the window sill which was over my bed. He used my face for traction.

I had seventeen stitches in my left eyelid.

I'm gonna shave it off if you don't start answering my emails. :o) Congratulations on your new place, and if I may offer a bit of advice...as you unpack, keep in mind that you will soon have two inquisitive, boisterous kittens sharing your space - so think twice about what goes where, to prevent breakage and (more importantly) potentially dangerous situations (cleaning products, electrical cords, etc.). A good basic rule of thumb with kittens is "If in doubt, don't put it out". And even then, they will get into everything!

A bad decision, on my part, as to where the toilet tissue should be stored....

I don't have much in the way of anything....yet....I know I have....packages of undisclosed contents arriving this week and next, so I'm sure they will be very happy to show me just what they can get into, rip apart (my bed), climb (the drapes - which are cordless! you just pull them along the thing they are on so whew! no cord for me to tie up) and whatever else they deem neccessary... hahaah!!! :D

SenseiKrystal: I just wanted to put this out there, because I know the Caturday farkers would understand.

One of my herd had been staying at my parents' house while I got settled into my new city. It seems he slipped away one day about 3 weeks ago and hasn't come back. I don't have much hope for him, other than that he is at peace.

He came to me 5 years ago as a dirty, flea-ridden little guy. I trapped him with a can of tuna, which he devoured, inside the trap and all. Thus his name, Charlie. He wasn't very bright, but he was never mean to anyone. He set himself on fire once, licked paint, and stared at the ceiling fan. He also had a heart murmur that "made his heart sound like a washing machine." He thought I was his mother, and he was very dear to me. I hope that I gave him 5 fantastic years, and I hope he went on an epic journey. I miss my little boy.

They also have a knack for knowing exactly what you don't want them to mess with and proceed to destroy it. Plus, if it makes a cool noise when knocked around, you're going to hear it between midnight and 5:00 am.

honestly, baby latches. get the kind that you "lock" around two knobs for cabinets and there's one the lets you pull open a drawer an inch to get a finger in to release the hook. baby proofing is the same as kitten proofing. save the lives of those poor, innocent toilet papers

Great photos. BTW, the young ones aren't nursing for milk now, they are nursing for comfort. I have one cat, that I got as a 6 week old kitten along with his brother, that likes to 'nurse' on a fuzzy cat bed/sack, in fact they both do. I would wash it but I did that with the other one and he ignored it. My old orange kitty had a special love for the old blue ratty bathrobe and then the blue blanket when the fuzzy robe didn't make the trip to Florida with him

Anyway, I would guess that your kitten's cat mom doesn't know to smack them to tell them 'BACK OFF'. I would think after she is fixed, she won't be allowing that anymore.

spidermilk: Anyone have any advice for transitioning a picky cat to another food? Our cat is eating Iams and loves it. Unfortunately, I don't love it and would like for him to eat a better quality food. We transitioned him to Acana before and he loved it at first but then quit eating it completely- and won't eat it anymore. He will still scarf down that Iams though. On the bright side, he will eat Instinct canned cat food so I have been feeding that. Maybe I should only feed wet? I know it is better for the kidneys, my cat is NOT overweight, is there a downside to only feeding wet food? (dental health?)

Valnt9you are right - she is sooooo tiny!!!!
I'm glad you picked her up and saved her from getting hit or attacked and will be taking her in.
But then you have a heart of gold just like reigning.cats.and.dogswhen I met you both - I knew that instantly so I am not surprised in the least!

Now at ft of pg 7, to go to pg 9 unless I really type slowly.
d1jeditech: Sending still more Good Vibrations (yes, precisely like the old song) to your kin, as well as to you. (Having to do a lot of this today.) Sorry they lost the loved critters they shared the house with, but at least they live.
Alien: Help you unpack? Too far away! Like whoever said, take it a bit at a time. Also phone calls from your Future Supervisors sound excellent!
slightly_damaged: Boxes whose insides haven't seen light of day in 5 yrs? Plumbicon & I can do better than that! Some boxes here or in storage (quite a major problem of ours) haven't seen daylight inside since W Berlin in 1978.
Zeke & Fizgig (wondrous name!) who live with Damili, pix been saved, hope to find/make time to caption. oddmind will happily welcome Fizgig's pic to her huge tongue collection, which now has its own website.
Bobbi Wickham: I'm so very sorry for your friend whose dear sweet old indoor cat was euthed. Whoever is to blame must truly despise cats to do that to such an obviously good kitty.
Spinnyr: Fang Q for the huge clowder of good pix, especially the sphinxes.
quantum_jellyroll: Fang Q for the explanation of how to get names to show up in blue. So obvious that I haven't the trick.
L33t Squirrel: Fang Q for expanding "CSB" for me. As shown here:
