(SFGate) Interesting Six GOP candidates hold a debate on Twitter. Amazingly appropriate since Twitter has 140 characters and so does the Republican presidential race   (sfgate.com) divider line 30

This was such a terrible idea. It's even worse than you could imagine. All the jingoistic rhetoric squeezed into 140 characters was bad enough, but it started off with people submitting obscene (but funny) questions. It was not a well-thought out endeavor.

I'm surprised Republican propaganda is complex enough to even need 140 characters. The whole point is to find something short, snappy, and packed with emotion, but ultimately devoid of meaning. Take for example "big government." Ooh, sure sounds bad. No one wants a powerful government. But "big" in what way? I've seen multiple definitions of it. It's a meaningless phrase onto which anyone can throw any visceral emotional reaction they want.

I, for one, enjoyed this headline to the point of a small, vocal guffaw.

140 characters is overkill, all they need is 3.

Candidate 1: "No!"
Candidate 2: "No!"
Candidate 6: "Hrp"
Candidate 4: "No!"
Candidate 2: "No!"
Candidate 5: "Drp"
Candidate 3: "No!"
Candidate 1: "No!"
Candidate 4: "No!"

Still way to early for anyone to take these guys seriously.

This.

How do you lose against a Republican? Let them talk for 30 seconds.

How do you win against a Republican? Let them talk for 30 minutes.

Yep... The GOP is very good at controlling the narrative.

See: Death Tax. It took them about 6 months of research and focus groups with the target demographics to craft that little piece of nonsense.

twitter is perfect for GOP candidates. most complain that bills are too long, contain too many polysyllabic words and are just too hard to read. in fact, i'm waiting for the first candidate to suggest that all legislation be 140 characters or less. (herman cain, i'm looking at you)

No, it's that the President is known for being fairly technologically savvy. Bachmann and company... not so much.

You either:
A) don't understand the difference between using twitter to take questions and using it to give answers, or
B) are being intentionally stupid.

/OK, I know, I know. The answer to these is always C) all of the above.

Close to what I was thinking. Mine was a bit more concise in thinking: "Nope sounds perfect since all the current field of nutballs only need something long enough to sound off a talking point: Whether that was what the question was about or not."

This is perfect for a batch of candidates that are just running on meaningless rhetoric.

//We need to shrink the size of government, we are over-taxed, we need a constitutional amendment outlawing Sharia Law, we need to reduce govt regulations re: the environment so business can flourish, jobs jobs jobs or wait GOP/Boehner team has not introduced any job creation legislation...could go on all day

Subby, I know you are trying to make fun of the Republican field, but look at it this way: Obama is such an easy target that every Tom, Dick, and Harry in the GOP thinks he can beat him.

Seriously? I have a reply to this that is so politically incorrect, I couldn't even post it on Fark.

Of course, they also have voices in their heads telling them what to do, so take it for what it's worth.
