I live in Portland, Oregon and we are the sight of ongoing UFO activity. Typically, the event will occur in August and start with a drought of say... 15 or 20 consecutive minutes without rain. Then part of the sky will start to get brighter and turn from gray to white. After a moment the sky will become mottled and some of it will turn a strange color. Then an intensely bright, warm, yellow, ball of light will momentary appear before the entire process reverses itself, the sky goes back to normal and the rain starts again. I've heard non-native people refer to this UFO as "The Son" perhaps meaning the Mother Ship is somewhere near by? Here is an actual photo of one such event:

Born in Seattle and mostly living here now, but I loves me some desert southwest and this time of year it's farking AWESOME down there. Giving the cloudy skies the finger tomorrow and heading to Vegas for a week. It's 58 degrees in my yard right now. It will be 106 when I step off the plane and start enjoying the sun. Suck it, mole people.

Here we go again with the ITG saying "I live in 130 degree F heat with only a fan blowing in my face. Only wimps use A/C". As we all know that when it get below 50 degrees F they will be b*tching and moaning on how it is cold out there and will be putting on the heavy coats.

telaran: I'm glad the midwest is sucking up all the heat and Seattle is sucking up all the rain. It's a beautiful 70 degrees and sunny down here in Southern Oregon, which is a nice break from the 90-105 degrees it normally is here at this time of year.

Sure. Except you live in Southern Oregon. I think if I moved anywhere near Ashland again there'd be a rash of dead hippie farktards.

APE992: I wouldn't mind living in Seattle given that I love the rain a bit too much.

Though I also enjoy growing tomatoes and I can't imagine I'd get anything but dead plants if I tried to grow them there.

If you have trouble growing anything in Seattle's climate then you should probably give up gardening.

God I love Seattle

LavenderWolf: I have been giving serious thought to moving to the far north. Not so far that it's always cold, but far enough that summers don't get past 80 ever.

Yeah, if I had the money and a good job prospect I'd move tomorrow.

I'm trying to, subbie!

(If anyone wants to help a technical writer from Kansas City relocate to Seattle, please let me know! It's obviously an uphill battle, so I'll take any networking or 'insider' help I can get!!!)

I know this article is kinda "old" and I don't have time to read the entire thread, but I saw this in the article and couldn't help myself:

Brad Colman, the meteorologist in charge at the Weather Service station in Seattle, attributes Washington's cooler, wetter weather to a phenomenon meteorologists call "locking," where the atmosphere locks into a persistent pattern and creates a cycle of relatively unchanging weather.

It's called BLOCKING, you idiot.

I wouldn't trade DC weather for the Rochester, NY weather I grew up in for anything, but after playing three games last night I was absolutely disgusting. Between the sweatiness, swass, and bug spray I was a toxic cloud by 9pm. I'm really looking forward to the double-header I have at 1pm on Saturday. That will be...healthy.

BigJake: StoneColdAtheist: I was just yankin' the chains of the Seattleites complaining up above about how poorly their tomatoes are doing. I left that sorry-assed place 40 years ago and ain't NEVER goin' back. Got up to 88° here today...farking perfect!

California is worthless from the northern border down to about Monterey hth

Not to worry, brah...I'll sign your petition for SoCal to secede! :)

bmfderek: Stone Meadow: Matanuska Thunderfark

Damn you for bringing up that name. Best weed I ever smoked, but I've heard it's extinct.

I am of the opinion that there never was an original 1970's "Matanuska Thunderfark" strain. It was just properly selected and carefully tended early-maturing strains that responded well to the 20 hours of natural light up there. It must have been quite the pleasant surprise to anyone used to getting only 1970's Mexican ditch weed that was half stems and seeds.

Seattle fark party?

rohar: The My Little Pony Killer: We get a summer. We just don't get burned to a crisp. If you want that, you can go south.

Uh, Seafair has been going on for weeks already. It does every year. No rain for 3 weeks or more in Seattle is just flat out impossible.

Historically Seattle is one of the driest places in the USA in summer. 3 weeks without rain is not a big deal AT ALL here.

Harry_Seldon: All you people whining about your lack of sun in Seattle can suck it. We are basting in our glorious PDX sunshine.

//what?

Blue sky, sun, not too hot. The rain we've had lately has been brief. I'm loving it.

Suck it, Seattle.

cuzsis: /astronomy prof said we sell more sunglasses during winter than most places in the US in summer.

A lot of that is due to people not needing sunglasses that much and misplacing them, so they have to buy a new pair more often.
