Good game, but it's disappointing the US gave up two leads. The US women's soccer team is pretty damn good though. I wish the guys were as competitive.

I didn't expect the american shooters to fail like that. I was wondering if Solo's injury might be cause for concern, but it wouldn't have mattered without USA goals.

Well congrats to Japan on their first World Cup.

See you guys later!

USA just wouldn't score early on and wouldn't stop Japan from scoring late. US defense was absolutely horrible.

so, we can go back to not caring about womens soccer now?

I'm going to remember this for a long time, because Japan didn't win, the US lost. We beat ourselves. Dumb defensive plays, poor clears, and playing not to lose cost us. It happened like a billion (American) football games where the coach puts in the prevent defense - which as we all know only prevents you from winning. You go into that shell, you're begging for some kind of ruin, you're practically inviting it. And the US paid for it. Japan gets credit for taking advantage, but the United States lost this game more than they won it.

Pvt. Snowball: Swoop1809: So close to having soccer be relevant in US. Nope, not ours, no can has

no
we've won the women's world cup twice before, no one cared until one of them took their shirt off

Exactly. The 1999 team had more personalities too, like Mia Hamm, Chastain, etc. Won it in Rose Bowl in front of 90K.

Some people thought that Woman's soccer would be popular, with a new league starting up....it closed after 3 years or so.

Congrats Japan. I hate that it ended with PKs, but the Japanese deserved to win it overall IMO. Great game though.l

The entire world can go back to ignoring women's sports.

What a choke job.

All you had to do was see how the US defended with a lead today. Idiocy abounded. They couldn't handle the pressure.

Total choke.

Japan did what they had to do to win the tournament - they took a less-talented team and waited for better teams to screw up. All of them did. Germany screwed around too much, Sweden's keeper left her brain at home, and the US couldn't be bothered to put more than one of its many chances in during regulation.

The US deserves a lot of credit, they're a hell of a team.

But Japan just wouldn't go away.

What a finish. What an unbelievable game.

Congratulations Japan. You earned it.

2011-07-17 05:29:49 PM
The U.S. had the game in the bag early on and didn't capitalize, the score should have been 4-0 after the first half of regulation. There were at least 4 shots on goal that should have been in the net.

I know you're trolling, but that's bullshiat. The first three American shooters on the PKs borked it up. Solo did as well as you can expect for a keeper in PKs.

"But you see it's not racist because..." is the Tea Party's motto, too.
