It's WWII, Part II

I wouldn't might seeing Hope Solo do the Electric Boogaloo.

Glass soccer field. It's the only way to be sure.

Obligatory trolling comment about soccer being real football as opposed to "handegg" aka "American armored wankball".

2011-07-17 12:35:30 PM
Also, I'm watching pretty much just in case we win and any of the ladies feel like ripping their shirts off again...

2011-07-17 12:39:28 PM
Protip: The blah-blah-blah starts at 2:00pm/et. Kickoff is 2:45.

I think Hope's due for a bit of a letdown. US scores first, Japan ties it before halftime. Maybe they take the lead, but the US closes down. 3-2 America.

Maybe at the very end, but in the course of the game, removing the shirt in celebration is an automatic caution for unsportsmanlike conduct (for the men, too).

Nah. Japan scores first, early on with a sudden rush while most of the US defenders are out of position. There's a slog fest, but the US comes back late with two successive hits to win 2-1.

Me and the wife are looking forward to it. Living here in Spain, we've tried to get into soccer more, but we can't really get into it because of the teams. We don't know about the rivalries, and it's hard to tell who we should care about. But with these kind of more international games, with one nation's team going up against another, best against the best, that changes the entire dynamic.

We'll have our asses on the couch come game time.

2-0 United States. If Solo's that pissed about a goal that wasn't her fault, she ought to be amazing today.

Subby here. I was so desperate for a greenlight I sold out to Fark standards.

That being said, I will not be watching the game because I have to work.

/soccer lasts about 5 hours anyways

Barça. You should always root for Barça. Then your rivalry is Madrid. It's quite simple.

Today I'm rooting for my girls in the USA. My husband is naturally rooting for Japan.

Yes it goes to PK's and they win by one there.

Yeah, they'll probably rally by their own goal, swoop past midway, and then strike suddenly without warning.

When I was contemplating submitting a thread for today's game I was wondering if a Pearl Harbor joke would have been tasteless. I see I was overestimating Fark yet again.

/go USA
//hopes for no obvious unsportsmanlike play like that biatch from Brazil who stood up from the stretcher the instant she was off the field.
///in my world she would've been red carded and barred from international play for that shiat

Yeah... if that happens here, the other team should jump on her and raise a flag to alert the ref, like so:

This game is going to be phenomenal. It's hard to root against Japan today. A win today would boost morale in a country that has had one hell of a shiatty year. I'd love to see our gals game away with their third cup, but I wont be unhappy if Japan takes it home.

Cheers and beers all around, Farkers.

Check that, Rapinoe AND Cheney gets the start (the latter over the useless Amy Rodriguez).

We're starting Cheney over Rodriguez? I'm not sure I agree with that. Then again, I've been pregaming for this game for a few hours.

Thread went un-greened for a while, so couldn't post this.

Really great source pic of a "my hair is a" photoshop: NSFW Link (new window) Cropped to be SFW would probably be for the best ^^

After the Earthquake business in Japan these girls went out in support of victims of the disaster, and I like to think they're cheering for Japan tonight. NSFW Link (new window)

That out of the way, go USA!

I have the same thoughts. Also it's good to have Japan support their women's sports.

I dont know how much I like Rapinoe being the starter. Now we really dont have much of a spark off the bench besides Morgan if we get complacent like we did in the last game.

But Pia knows what shes doing far more than I do so I guess Ill trust her decision. At least Cheney is getting the start over Rodriguez who hasnt done squat in this tournament

Thank you! ^^^^ this. Everybody has been clamoring that she should be a starter but I think she's vital as sub coming on later with fresh legs and her skills..

We are running a 4-5-1. Interesting...

That's a lot of respect for Japan's midfield. They've certainly earned it. We are gonna make their defense be involved with possession and play the counter it would seem.

Not gonna second guess this coach though. Every move has been spot on. I'd like to see more possession.

USA!

STILL? You were looking for teams to root for back in the World Cup! Barca = Red Sox, Real Madrid = Yankees. Or you could be a hipster and root for Xerez, since you're close.

Anyways, thread needs more Hope Solo (new window)

I will LOL if at some point in this game if a group of Americans can get a slightly modified classic going and sing "10 Japanese Zeros in the air"

Singing it in Germany just makes it that much better

Women do it with mens sports too. Before my grandmother passed away, she used to watch the Yankees every game. Every time Jeter came up to bat she would say, "ohh, I love me a n*gger!".

Thanks for making me remember that, asshole.
