If Morgan hits the game-winner, she'll become a multi-millionaire overnight.

Shadowknight: "Me and the wife are looking forward to it. Living here in Spain, we've tried to get into soccer more, but we can't really get into it because of the teams. We don't know about the rivalries, and it's hard to tell who we should care about. But with these kind of more international games, with one nation's team going up against another, best against the best, that changes the entire dynamic."

One of the points of rebellion under Franco was soccer games in Catalunya. Franco loved Real Madrid. In 1943, Barcelona was playing Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the "Copa del Generalísimo." Barcelona's players had a changing room visit from Franco's director of state security, who "reminded" them that they were only playing due to the "generosity of the regime". A lot of people throughout Spain, including Madrid, still hate the legacy of Franco so much that they pull for Barcelona.

2011-07-17 03:52:37 PM
This is starting to feel like an Arsenal game.

As an Arsenal fan, I can say this is not a good sign at all.

2011-07-17 03:52:38 PM
Dammit, put it in!

2011-07-17 03:52:46 PM
Adjust your aim to a little more inside, please.

2011-07-17 03:52:54 PM
I'm suspecting that Japan snuck on a 12th player disguised as the goalpost.

2011-07-17 03:53:04 PM

2011-07-17 03:54:11 PM
In spanish, Miyama would introduce herself by saying, "Mi llama, Miyama."

2011-07-17 03:54:19 PM
Where the fark was that headed, Wambach, geez.

2011-07-17 03:54:37 PM
Knee over the ball, knee over the ball.

Goalpost ninja.

What an amazingly placed pass from Rapinoe.

2011-07-17 03:55:04 PM
Lord of Allusions: In spanish, Miyama would introduce herself by saying, "Mi llama, Miyama."

Except in Spanish it'd be "Me llamo Miyama."

cotb: Can someone stop Lloyd from taking those long shots? Please?

Or at least convince her to aim at the center of the goal instead of nibbling at the corner.

For people who actually enjoy soccer, Brazil x Paraguay's second half is about to start on Univision.

Haha. Someone needs to photoshop some squinted eyes on a goalpost.

She can nibble at my corner any time.

/US really needs to capitalize on their chances, and quick

For those who care, Jim Thome just hit his 596th HR.

Anyways, no clue WTF that was from Alex Morgan.

Lupine Chemist: I just went to turn it on. What channel is it on? Teledeporte has some track and field tournament and marca is showing a replay of LA-Madrid

I'm on a military base, so I have it on AFN.

I mean, of course, for people who do not have a vested interest in this game.

As wide as she's shooting, a center-aimed shot might just nibble at the corner.

Corner kick!

Nah, I prefer to watch dive-less soccer. Only thing worthwhile in the BRA-PAR game would be:

Really? You enjoy a bunch of whinging diving cheating only-in-it-for-the-money assholes with horrible haircuts roll around on the ground more than this game?

Oh, hey, Solo's in this game, I almost forgot.

2011-07-17 04:01:36 PM
At the risk of jinxing it, this has been a really clean game. No yellow cards, hardly any fouls... just good solid gameplay from both sides. The referee has kept the whistle in her pocket and it's really been nice to watch.

Are soccer matched supposed to be this boring?

You'd rather NOT watch a FIFA Finals game?

Right. Even after that obvious shove by Cheney, the ref blew the whistle, but still was laughing about it.

Mr. Murder: Are soccer matched supposed to be this boring?

Do you have a remote control? You can watch something else if you like.

Apparently this is the most well respected female referee in Germany. She refs games in the second level of the Budesliga and will likely be moving up to the top level in the future
