Somehow I'm watching this on CBC... In Spanish? ¿que?

Es un muy excelente juego de futból. Me gusta Megan Rapinoe. Ella es la mejor de los Estados Unidos.

Los Estados Unidos... Ok fark this I don't know how to say this in broken Spanish. They are ruining the control of the midfield Japan has shown in previous games. I think this thing will end up 2-0 USA.

2011-07-17 03:19:06 PM

REDARMYVODKA: fark!

put one in!

They need to strap it on first.

2011-07-17 03:19:12 PM
Was that a kazoo I just heard from the crowd?

2011-07-17 03:19:36 PM
Japan, "so good at slipping little balls through." Thanks for the info, Brandi Chastain

Well the US is leading 5-0 in imaginary goals now. Uh, make that 6-0.

Need to bury one.

2011-07-17 03:20:28 PM
Gaaaaah.

2011-07-17 03:20:43 PM
so what happens is USA can score whenever they want and simply just shoot too high.

almost as if their strategy is "shoot over the short people"

2011-07-17 03:20:48 PM
COME ON!!!!

2011-07-17 03:20:55 PM
Japan is going to score here soon

2011-07-17 03:21:04 PM
That Japanese goalie slid into the net like a hunted dolphin.

2011-07-17 03:21:11 PM
Really, if we could put one in, what's the quickest way to open Japanese girls up? Saki?

2011-07-17 03:21:21 PM
GRAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaa

This is getting silly. Enough with the close calls here ladies, put something in the goddamn net!

I'm so glad it was just me...

The encouraging thing here is that the USA is a 2nd half team.

You have to capitalize on your opportunity if you want to win the game. This insightful advice is given every 5 minutes by your world cup announcer.

that picture of suits in comfy seats is pretty much what's wrong with international sports.

2011-07-17 03:23:10 PM
Uh oh, I hear vuvus

2011-07-17 03:23:47 PM

Theseus: "needs more BZZZZZ"

Do you mean it needs more Vuvuzela? Because that is just crazy talk.

It's weird. Almost like you can hear the ebb and flow of the crowd or some chants instead of a constant buzz from people blowing plastic horns. What is this

2011-07-17 03:23:52 PM
is anyone else annoyed at hearing championship droughts measured in years for "every 4 years" events like world cups and olympics?

"it's been 12 years!" yeah, which is a whole two tournaments.

2011-07-17 03:24:16 PM
So when are these hot chicks gonna stop kicking the balls and start making samwiches?

/Call me when that starts.

A Fark Handle: that picture of suits in comfy seats is pretty much what's wrong with international sports.

Yup. Really didn't need a reminder that Sepp Blatter was there too and probably will be getting his greasy hands on the trophy later.

Japan plays a smart control game

This bothers me too. They have made it such a big deal that we havent won the cup in 12 years, when in actuality we didnt win the last two which isnt so horrible.

Nonsense.

Just remarked on that to a friend, myself. Very annoying.

orange storm: Japan plays a smart control game

I was just thinking this. Their possession style might wear us out. Who cares how many shots we've taken? Both teams have one shot on goal.

2011-07-17 03:26:51 PM

Shadowknight: Me and the wife are looking forward to it. Living here in Spain, we've tried to get into soccer more, but we can't really get into it because of the teams. We don't know about the rivalries, and it's hard to tell who we should care about. But with these kind of more international games, with one nation's team going up against another, best against the best, that changes the entire dynamic.

We'll have our asses on the couch come game time.

I just went to turn it on. What channel is it on? Teledeporte has some track and field tournament and marca is showing a replay of LA-Madrid

Shot count: 14-5

On target: 1-1

Oh god, why would they do that to you?

/The Ronaldo goal was Varsity-versus-freshman team impressive.

Is Steve Nash the sideline ref?

On ESPN for me.

WaywardSon: This game is going to be phenomenal. It's hard to root against Japan today. A win today would boost morale in a country that has had one hell of a shiatty year. I'd love to see our gals game away with their third cup, but I wont be unhappy if Japan takes it home.

I had to turn off the pregame show. It got a bit dusty in here and ESPN almost had be feeling guilty for rooting for the US. "This is a homeless child. If you root for the USA, we're going to punch this homeless child again".

Bah. I might have to mute it because of the running commentary. Brandi is actually trying to talk soccer, the other idiot just keeps chiming in with "what a close shot, and she lost 4 friends in that Tsunami."
-

bearcats1983: That's the truth. A country of over 250 million and we can't find 4 guys to play defense for 90+?

Someone had a good point in a previous thread about Title IX. Women's soccer is a varsity sport at most schools while Men's is a club. (Same with Rugby.) Women actually get to develop their players and pick from the best. Imagine if the NFL had to either draft straight from high school or draft from Sunday afternoon pickup league.

Doogled: Is Steve Nash the sideline ref?

Well there are no preseason workouts due to the NBA strike.

0-0, halftime.

Balls.

2011-07-17 03:32:19 PM
Woo hoo, halftime!!! Too bad for alll of the US' aggressiveness they haven't scored.

next summer olympics, japan is going to clean up in the swimming events.

Nil to nil.

That means "zero to zero" for American viewers.

Swoop1809: WHY ARENT WE WINNING????

Difficult shots with a bit of bad luck. Accuracy is down but I put that on the shots they have got have been very difficult. They just need some better set ups and take their time to put the shots where they need to be and not get jittery.

good American players often go play in u16 clubs in Europe first, so the university part is a little irrelevant

Which would be great if I were in a country with ESPN.

Damn. Nice half, even with the missed opportunities.
Yeah, "Japan has started pulling themselves into the game." Duh? Just like the quarters and semi. They will kick your coont if you don't take care of business early.

2011-07-17 03:35:22 PM
In the second half, the US needs to start testing Japan with many more shots from outlying areas instead of trying to penetrate directly into the goal box, a well fortified and defended region.
