FTA
But Councilman Mike Tognarelli says he trusts officers to use good judgment. He contends saggy pants are a symbol of gang activity and Collinsville residents don't need to put up with it

I contend missing teeth are a symbol of meth activity and would like to see all people with missing teeth fined

That is almost as stupid as low-riding pants.

2011-07-12 04:59:48 PM
Actually, it's more stupid.

But without low-riding pants, I worry that my tribal tattoo will be insufficient to communicate to the world that I am not bound by the conventional rules of society.

Didn't similar laws already reach court and get thrown out under freedom of speech rights?

They should ban ties. Ties are a symbol of corporate criminal activity and Collinsville residents don't need to put up with it.

Whether or not it is free speech, and whether or not it should be outlawed, it definitely is really stupid-looking. Then again, I look back at what I wore during the late '80s, early '90s.

It's OK because Negroes wear them, and the President is a Negro.

Relatively Obscure: That is almost as stupid as low-riding pants.

I've thought about it and I'm not sure which is actually dumber. I'm going to go with the ordinance, given that the people making the ordinance should be smart enough to know better while I think we can all agree people sagging their pants are probably just stupid.

They should just ban meth or whatever it is those people are using. That'll send 'em back to the country they came from!

I'm going to agree.
I hope whoever submitted and approved a hero tag for the government getting so involved in our lives that they determine which pants are acceptable should be taken out back and hung from the neck by the use of a pair of extremely baggy pants.

Isn't low hanging pants a warning, 'stupid or obnixous person approaching' sign, act accordingly.

How will people in that town identify stupid people before getting close?

Aren't low riding pants a sign in prison saying you are available for sex?

What low-riding pants may look like

2011-07-12 09:14:47 PM
The Belleville News-Democrat reports the ordinance forbids pants that ride lower than 3 to 4 inches below the waistline of the underwear.

Simple solution: Don't wear underwear.

Please be mine, please be mine, please be mine. . .Fark, it's Collinsville. Oh well.

And no one will be able to admire my edgy "Vamos Jose" pink boxers.

This puts me in the very unenviable position of having to side with people who wear such pants.

Grables'Daughter: Parachute pants?

That'd be 1985 or so, and thankfully, I couldn't afford them on my own and my parents wouldn't buy them for me. My look was more ripped, faded jeans (not skinny jeans, but too tight in reflection) coupled with a Poison/GnR/Motley Crue T that was always too short because I went from 5' 5" to 6' 4" in about 3 years, and a terrible, terrible haircut that was not quite a mullet, but was truly mullet-esque.

Feels good to get it off my chest.

I read that as "Small town in Illinois is banning low-riding, pants"

Ban the low riders and pants too.

I thought crime was an indication of gang activity, not poor fashion sense.

I hate seeing some douchebag's underwear. Only an idiot would think that that's a good "style". Even dumber when we look at where this "style" originated. I guess for some people, the incarcerated are their heroes.

I would like to say something directly to these people, or hit them in the butt with an elastic band projectile, but I'd probably get beaten up.

suraimu: The Belleville News-Democrat reports the ordinance forbids pants that ride lower than 3 to 4 inches below the waistline of the underwear.

Or wear boxer breifs beneath the boxers, making the boxers a redundant decorative short.

I'm in favor of this law though. It will get stricken down on free speech grounds, but the ghetto culture really is doing damage on a lot of fronts. If just a few arrests from this start knocking some sense into stupid kids and scare them straight, I'm fine with it. The court system will kill this thing if there are any flagrant abuses that make somebody pissed enough to go through the effort of taking it up with the feds.

So is it 3 or 4? Because if I were inclined to flaunt this fashion, I'd be going 3 and 15/16 above the underpants and exploiting the ambiguity.

2011-07-12 09:20:59 PM
This has been ruled unconstitutional before and will again. Way to waste your tax dollars on trying to enforce the law and defending it in court where you will lose Collinsville.

2011-07-12 09:21:03 PM
What could possibly go wrong with this? A lawsuit bankrupting the town, maybe?

2011-07-12 09:22:11 PM
If money = speech, and pants are bought with money, then pants = speech.

I believe Citizens United already dealt with this.

Complete. Freedom. Of. Pants.

2011-07-12 09:23:15 PM
Better yet, why don't they ban people wearing pajamas AT THE AIRPORT.

stupid will always be in style. remember the Joey Buttafuoco jammy-jam looking workout pants? disco clothes? the Miami Vice look? and farkin' bell bottom jeans coming back into vogue...just, holy shiat.

i Like spotting stupid from a distance, gives my old bones time to respond.

get the hell off my lawn!

blackmtnmantheonly: What could possibly go wrong with this? A lawsuit bankrupting the town, maybe?

There wouldn't be monetary damages. And if it went as far as court, the town's probably not going to be expending a whole lot of time and money defending the thing.

They'll pay their in house counsel his/her typical salary.

\Did not check to see if they actually have an in house counsel.
\\Might have somebody on a retainer.

They will all be in the city council. Just avoid whatever barn they use to hang out and pass stupid laws.
