Best, Spinal Tap but....
[www.8notes.com image 360x323]
No Monkees!?!?

Monkees don't count.

Yes, they were put together for the show. However, they eventually became a real band, wrote and performed their own stuff, and Mike Nesmith and Peter Tork were real musicians.

The Archies can go either way depending on how pedantic you want to get. They remained intact for recording sessions and if I'm not completely mistaken, toured a bit as well. Andy Kim was quite the song writer.

This is the true correct answer. They didn't even get the best Muppet band right. Mayhem should have gone 2.

and THAT. I wondered if the band from Bateman's first series It's Your Move would show up. Nice work Farkers.

Also, props for all of the fake Mr. Show bands; Titanica, Wycked Scepter, Flat Top Tony and the Purple Canoes, Indominatable Spirit, etc.

But no love for Bad News?

They were 3/4ths of the Young Ones from the British alt-comedy scene of the 80s. Think British Spinal Tap, but with real British comedians.

Here's their greatest song, Warriors of Genghis Khan (new window). Song kicks in at 2:37.
