Enemabag Jones:

If some have seen of the Nat Geo specials are accurate, isolated hardcore high-level prisoners like the Black Guerrilla Family, the Mexican Mafia and the Aryan Brotherhood are enforcing racial codes on people who could really give a fark in prison for killing their wives and smuggling marijuana.

That means you are part of the fight that broke out if you want to be or not. Better not talk to that back guy or sit over there, and you are better off joining the race based gang if you believe it or not.

If this is about the debriefing process, the low level prisoner is jammed between the gang leaders and the prison management.

The unforgiveable part of this is the fact that when process prisoners in, the prison management race segregates them. It's like half the racist gangs' work is done for them already.

farktarded system from top to bottom.

I hope the scum die. Suck a dick you noncontributing to society leeches.

OgreMagi: I'm not feeling a whole lot of sympathy. They're isolating the people responsible for organizing prison gangs. Good. Let them starve.

I agree regarding prison gangs. fark those gangs, and fark how we let them control crime on the outside by threatening street gang members who get locked up.

They shouldn't even get enough physical interaction to ever kill/rape one another. In the long run I think it'd be worth the extra cost. If they need to socialize then let them Skype or something.

Yep. I used to work in an LA county jail. We didn't take inmates straight from the street, they had already been in the system for at least a few days if not longer.

When we got a line of new inmates they fell into one of four categories. Black, White, Paisa, or Southsider. We didn't get Asians.

So when a bus full of inmates came in we would have to assign them their sleeping assignments. So I got to pull the cards of each inmate, as they sat in a big room, and ask who they "ran" with. In that particular situation, if you were black or white it was easy enough. I would call your name and you would answer "Black" or "White" (or Wood).

But if you were Hispanic is was more difficult. You would have to answer "Paisa" or "Southsider" Paisas tended to be the "Border Brothers," the guys who were immigrants (legal or illegal). Very few of them spoke English. Technically, they weren't a gang. "Southsiders" were Sureno gang members or people who identified with them.

I always thought it was messed up that Hispanics had to choose between the two. But I also realized that I didn't make the rules and was just trying to keep people alive, so I did my job. It was the worst job ever, though.

Happy Hours: Kome: Still more civilized than people who trample on the rights of others or needlessly put others in serious danger for personal gain, like burglars, arsonists, drunk drivers, and child abusers.

You're part of the problem. You're seriously going to lump someone who has 3 beers and then drives home into the same category as a child abuser?

Right. I'm the problem. Not the people who don't seem to understand their level of alcohol tolerance, how it affects them personally, and how getting behind the wheel of their car drunk puts others at risk - which usually takes more than 3 beers, but I guess you don't seem to make the distinction since I clearly said "drunk drivers" and not "someone who has 3 beers and then drives." Hell yes I'm going to lump irresponsible jackasses who routinely put people's lives at risk, if not outright cripple or kill them, in with other irresponsible jackasses who abuse others.

Billygoat Gruff: The fear that I would become the wife of a guy like this if I went to prison keeps me on the straight and narrow.

Simon Adebisi is, scarily enough, married in Oz and mentions it a couple of times. Not that that stops him from sodomising everyone he feels like sodomising.

TheShavingofOccam123: Have some taco trucks or a McDonald's delivery van circle the prison. They'll start eating once they get downwind.

/a McDonald's delivery van...think about it...it comes to your door...with fresh fries, burgers and shakes made on the van...omg...like an ice cream truck...

Know how I know you're high?

Benevolent Misanthrope: At its peak, 6,600 prisoners in 11 prisons were refusing food, but officials told the New York Times that number was down to 1,700 yesterday.

Give it a little more time. None of these guys has enough strength of character to starve to death for a belief, no matter how dearly held.

I'd like to know how much of the decline is attributed to force feeding rather than a voluntary end.

How about if they release the crazy-ass gang-bangers back into the general population, the general population stages a protest over the fact that they're locked up within reach of crazy-ass gang-bangers?

If, God forbid, I ended up in prison, I would get on my knees and beg to be put in solitary.

Well, the limit is 0.05 BAC here - I don't consider that "drunk" The law does though.

Honestly, I could care less if a gang member starves themselves to death.
Gang members belong in GITMO. They are all terrorists.

Toss away the key and let the military clean up the neighborhoods the police are afraid to go into.
Give teens a chance to survive and feel safe without gang protection in bad neighborhoods.

Our prison system is bad for SOCIETY. Inmates come out worse then when they went in.
It is privatized and sold to the lowest bidder.

The prison system is dangerous and not being in a gang makes it more so.
Many walk in on drug offenses and come out with gang ties they never had before being locked up.

What about the men and women who can't pay the courts ransom (bail) and stay in the system for years before being proved innocent?

Rehabilitation is not the goal. Men spend years in solitary then get plopped back into society.

We house non-violent pot heads in these systems.
We waste our money housing drug addicts and the mentally ill.

The war on drugs can never be won by prohibition and if they were legal, gangs would lose a great deal of their revenue stream and power

We could focus more resources on wars we can win like identity theft and child pornography.
The state could get out of the hole right quick with the sale of marijuana and cocaine.

Other countries which have heroin clinics both crime and drug related deaths have plummeted as a result. Addicts hold jobs even.

Help is available when the user has had enough and rehabilitation efforts have been very successful in that scenario.
More people stop when the drug is readily available and they can get it legally. The propaganda that society will all turn into druggies is bullshiat.

We would be a much stronger / healthier society of booze hounds switched to pot.

Mental heath care is not easily obtainable, our jails serve as holding areas for the mentally ill.
MANY mentally ill use drugs illegal ones to self medicate.

Put aside what you think prisoners deserve and ask what does society deserve.
Do you like your hard earned tax contributions being used to turn criminals into more hardened and dangerous people?
