The guy had a COP (who might normally just beg off that "it's not within their job jurisdiction) to write the guy a note and still got boned..... I wonder why more people dont travel downtown from the burbs to spend some hard earned cash in the city.....

Listen Betty, don't start up with your white zone shiat again. The red zone has always been for loading and unloading of passengers. There's never stopping in a white zone.

Oh really, Vernon? Why pretend, we both know perfectly well what this is about. You want me to have an abortion.

I'm really looking forward to having these people run my health care.

The show Parking Wars has given me all the reason I need to never visit Philadelphia.

The PPA is basically a tax-collection agency that targets the poor. Laws are passed and methods used to extract as much revenue as possible.

Imagine what would happen if the big banks had the power of "law" and the ability to confiscate property behind them.

Wait... you can just look at the student-loan industry.

Wait, a city-run parking authority in Philadelphia is going to run our healthcare?

It's really the only sensible thing to do, if its done safely, therapeutically. There's no danger involved.

This is america. We have laws.

The man broke one.

If he wants to fight the ticket, there are procedures to do so, including seeing a judge.

He can act to have the law changed if he wants.

All I hear is a complainer.

As far as I'm concerned, I would just pay the $51 and move on with my life. It's not worth my time (nor the accident victims life) to be concerned with such a petty matter.

Common sense ain't all that common.

Throw in a dose of badge syndrome and the zero enforcement policy for businesses, friends and family and the public is in a lose-lose situation. Sidewalks are parking spaces for businesses and politicians. City Hall has given themselves authority to park on the sidewalk around City Hall. Why? What does City Council do that requires this? Raise taxes and tell voters what a great job the politicians did in their last term.

Ask Joe Sixpack and Mary Curlers to name five members of council and see how many can do it. Then ask what is the percentage of the city wage tax.

This is the fastest attempted threadjack to government run health care I've ever seen. Ladies and gentlemen, at this pace we could be seeing world-record-breaking speed irrelevance here today!

Wait, they actually park on the sidewalk (pedestrian traffic only) instead of in parking spaces on the street/in a garage? Why don't the police tow the vehicles?

For that matter, I'd rather deal with the average municipal meter-maid corps than with the average private towing company. Private tow drivers will dispense entirely with tickets and just steal your car. Parked legally? That'll be $275 for the tow and $50/day for storage, plus however much your body shop guy charges to have that massive dent popped out and re-painted.

/I'm looking at you, Shamrock Towing of Columbus, Ohio!

The difference here is, this guy got it cleared up in hours with a reporter. Or he could have shown up at a hearing with a judge and gotten it cleared.

If this was an insurance company, it'd have taken two full days of arbitration and a mountain of paperwork. If it was a big bank, he would have gotten his car impounded and thrown in jail overnight (see thread earlier on the page).

The PPA may be bunch of assholes, but BECAUSE they are government assholes, you actually have options. If they were private assholes, you'd be screwed.

Echenhofer deserves an apology from the PPA, along with a pat on the back for being the kind of citizen who will stop to help a person in need.

The PPA should be throwing him a ticker-tape parade, complete with those responsible for this ticket wearing demeaning costumes... like those of the Phillie Phanatic.

You aren't the only one. I had to go back at the end, realizing there was no mention of him being involved in actually saving the life or even splinting the broken arm. Not sure why the story needed that first paragraph. Saying the PPA needs to have people who look at a situation and act accordingly could have been said in a much better and more clear way.
