How, by not showing up?

2003-09-01 02:29:41 PM
Ahahahah

2003-09-01 05:35:45 PM
I guess they aren't going to actually play.

2003-09-01 05:36:53 PM
Eh?

2003-09-01 05:36:54 PM
They must have snuck a non-special team into the Special Olympics again.

2003-09-01 05:37:26 PM
S'okay. We still kick ass in the sports that matter.

Except soccer.

2003-09-01 05:38:56 PM
This thread should be a good test.

2003-09-01 05:39:23 PM
Yeah, say that with your curling squad, Team USA! HAH!

2003-09-01 05:39:49 PM
It says they didn't even qualify. Or did I read that wrong?

rbaron71:

What sports are you referring to? I'm not trying to start a flame war here. I am legitimately curious as to which summer sports Canadians think they will be able to compete in the Olympics.

Uhh....the U.S. Mens National Soccer Team is ranked ninth in the world or at least they were a month or so ago.

The Womens National Soccer Team is ranked #1 in the world.

So the US can play with anyone in the world provided they have thier A team on the field.

Milhouse: I can't believe we're on the Canadian olympic basketball team!

Bart: Yep, it's just that easy
[throws ball but misses hoop]

Player: Wow, that was close, you can be the center.

2003-09-01 05:46:28 PM
We are talking about sports, not sweeping ice in front of a rock on ice.

Good ol' Canada, always good for a laugh

Tourney3p0 : great Simpson's quote

Maybe somebody should remind them that it's "basketball" not "hockey".

That would be the one where the log is in the water and two people spin it in the hopes of knocking the other one off. Oh yeah... and the one where those folks climb the pole and cut it down to size using a chainsaw. The person that does it the quickest wins. Canada really has the advantage over New Guinea in this category.

since when is women's soccer considered a sport? it's just as embarrasing as the wnba.

unlikely tag.. hurting brain..

So it's unlikely Canada won't lose a game in the olympics? That would mean there is a chance we will.

We gonna bully our way into the US vs whoever gold medal game and take them ALL on?

That's be pretty neat. Maybe the team could lie down on the court till someone lets them play again.

2003-09-01 05:50:30 PM
They play Womens soccer in the Olympics. It's a medal event. So yeah it's a sport.
So what's your point?

2003-09-01 05:50:47 PM
Let me just say that I have no beef against Canada or their people. So, don't hate me for my previous post.

Thank you for your support.

Pokey

insert [special] olympics joke here, followed by cliche image.

/got nothin'

2003-09-01 05:52:48 PM
Canada always has a good showing in the Special Olympics.

2003-09-01 05:58:23 PM
Canadians do not, and can not, lose basketball games.

Ever.

2003-09-01 05:59:26 PM
"Well Dr. Naismith, a Canadian by birth, invented basketball. So we should be able to own in this sport, eh?!" - random Canadian

2003-09-01 05:59:58 PM
Uh,PeterGruntmuscle, rbaron71 was talking about the Canadian's performance in soccer, and men's soccer is pretty poor, but the women's soccer team is really good.

We are talking about sports, not sweeping ice in front of a rock on ice.

I bet you are one of those Philistines who don't consider ice fishing or sauna sitting a sport. Hah! I say. ;)

2003-09-01 06:04:58 PM
drv: The unlikely was meant for the guarantee that we wouldn't suck. Everyone knows the Olympics are rigged anyway, just like our elections!

hahahahahahaha.......................................................hahahahah ahahaha.

there mountain bikers kick ass though.

Where's Canada?

2003-09-01 06:10:51 PM
Gee. What a surprise. A nasty comment about Canada. Wow, that came out of left field.

And I thought my fellow Canadians were insecure....

2003-09-01 06:12:29 PM
glip:

Aw ok. I do know that the Canadian Women's Soccer team is pretty good because they all seem to play at the University of Nebraska and I have seen a few Nebraska games.

2003-09-01 06:13:28 PM
Seems to me that team Canada p3wns America's asses in Hockey, Wrestling, Diving, Curling (some consider it a sport), health care, etc...

sick_mother_farker

It says they didn't even qualify. Or did I read that wrong?

You read it right. Canada--by losing to Puerto Rico--failed to clinch a spot in the Olympics. Hence the humor of the headline. Can't lose if you aren't playing.

I would like to predict that I will not lose in the 100-meter backstroke at the next Olympics.

2003-09-01 06:16:06 PM
It doesn't really matter, the Chinese are going to whoop everyone next year.

2003-09-01 06:18:02 PM
The Canadian Basketball team also guaranteed it would get me a nude photo of Beyonce Knowles covered in honey. Don't believe them.

2003-09-01 06:18:43 PM
If Canada needs more strength in the middle they ought to recruit some of their Customs Agents. Talk about rough. I'd rather try to sneak into Syria with a military ID card than legitimately try to get into Canada by speaking with their customs people.

2003-09-01 06:23:49 PM
we have Steve Nash, Rick Fox, Jamal Maglore and some new guy on the pacers. We should have the second best team in the world with those players but only Nash will play for the national team. I'm always amazed the U.S. team is able to get it's top 12 nba players while the Canadians can only get Nash

2003-09-01 06:24:39 PM
I don't know if I can believe Canadians after those promises about "enlargement" that showed up in my spam. However, my hair does have a nice shiney glow ...

/It's all good.

2003-09-01 06:27:50 PM
Sorry all, I was projecting my love of hockey on to everyone in Canada.

But I stand corrected, we do have an excellent women's soccer team.

2003-09-01 06:32:00 PM
Other Canadian predictions:
1: 1987-to be the first country to put a man on the moon.
2: 1989-Michael J. Fox would win an oscar for Teenwolf 3,
3: 1992-Peter Jennings would denounce his Canadian citizenship.
One out of three ain't bad.

2003-09-01 06:32:12 PM
Didn't a US team win the womens curling championship this year, (yes, there isn't much to watch when it's a weekend, footballs in the off season, and you don't get cable).

2003-09-01 06:33:05 PM
estream: Well their customs agents are much easier if you have an Algerian passport and ar e carrying several bags of explosive....

Seriously how come Puerto rico has a team...they're not a country....and if they are , how come they don't pay taxes, but US tax dollars subsidize everything there?

2003-09-01 06:34:40 PM
I hate it how these articles always make it seem like Rick Fox and Jamaal Magloire ever even play for Canada. They are perennial no-shows for Team Canada events.

Yes, our basketball team failed. What ticks me off is that guys like Fox and Magloire won't even play. We're doomed before we start.

At least Steve Nash has some national pride.

2003-09-01 06:38:09 PM
Non-flamewar comment: I think we do pretty good considering our population, especially in the winter olympics.

Flamewar comment: Good thing there's not a "catch the bad-guy" event at the olympics, eh?

If I remember correctly, Puerto Rico is not a terriorty but an independent country joined in a commonwealth with the US.

2003-09-01 06:48:11 PM
Ok. Quiz time. Guess what sport has Canada won 7 Olympic gold, 8 silver and 8 bronze medals in?? It's our number three medal-bringer-inner after athletics and swimming.

(That Snarfangel made me laugh twice. He's funny.)

2003-09-01 06:49:50 PM
Sorry to get off topic but WOULD SOMEONE POST SOME DAMN B(.Y.)BIES already!!

Sheesh

2003-09-01 06:49:58 PM
1992-Peter Jennings would denounce his Canadian citizenship.

Didn't he just do that this year?

2003-09-01 06:56:35 PM
Actually Puerto Rico is a protectorate like guam...they have limited self rule, but they're budget is completely subsidized by US tax dollars...they get all trhe benegfits of US citizenship but pay no income tax....hhmm maybe I should emigrate....it's warm all year round too...
