The stories have proven they're true:
There's nothing that crap cannot do.
If there's a disaster,
That you need to master?
Then duct tape will always come through.

I believe it was originally duck tape, named for being water-resistant for taping up ammo containers and the like. I think it was even used to patch cloth boats. It's not really appropriate for duct repairs. Metal repair tapes -- generally aluminum foil tape -- should be used for that

A guy is walking down the street with some chicken wire under his arm. His neighbor sees him and asks what he has. The guy replies, "Its chicken wire and I'm going to catch some chickens." His neighbor says, "You fool, you can't catch chickens with chicken wire." Later that night, he sees the guy walking down the street dragging 12 chickens. The next day he sees him walking down the street with some duct tape under his arm. Once again he asks what the guy is up to. The guy says he has some duct tape and he is going to catch some ducks. He replies, "You fool, you can't catch ducks with duct tape." Sure enough later that night, he sees the guy walking down the street dragging 12 ducks behind him. The next day, he sees the guy walking with something else under his arm. He asks what it is. The guy replies, "Its pussy willow." He says, "Hold on, let me get my hat."

Better be careful when dealing with wild ducks, touch the wrong ones and you'll violate state and/or federal law.
They might be protected, or they might legally be considered invasive species and any interactions beyond killing them would be illegal.

For example, if you lack permits from state or federal wildlife agencies, you would be breaking the law if you feed wild muscovy ducks since they are considered invasive. You can shoot them, but don't feed them.
And of course stay away from any endangered species.

Thanks. I was WTF? when I saw a warning on my duct tape: "Do not use to seal ducts." It's good for everything except ducts.

No, I'm not planning on killing my baby, or throwing her into a swamp, or getting away with murder (or, at the very least, negligent homicide) scott-free.

In Great Smoky Mountain National Park it's illegal to disturb the bears -- as in, approach closer than 100 feet or some such. It's conceivable that touching an endangered duck is very illegal.

Of course, ducks don't pull people's arms off when they get disturbed. Bears have been known to do that.

/new strategy. Leave the bear alone.

That's right, do not use duct/duck tape on your duct work. It will dry up and fall off. Use foil tape for sealing your duct work.
