Whoa. Where did that come from? Third best international release ever? WTF. I should go see that.

On the one hand, it didn't look that good in previews.

On the other hand, they got rid of Bloom and whatsername, so that probably improved the movie considerably.

More importantly: GEOFFREY RUSH OWNS EVERYONE AS BARBOSSA.

There was no way I could type that without the use of caps.

A thousand pardons.

================================================================

Keira Knightley was the only reason to even watch the first one.

Then they took away her long hair (she cut it for a role) and she lost like 20 pounds and she was ugly as fark for the next two.

The "Fail" tag is not needed here. It may be used if the latest Transformers movie earns that much though.

If Geoffrey Rush is in any movie, that is an automatic reason to go see it. He is, hands down, one of the best actors working today. I dare someone to name a movie in which he was bad. Go on, I dare you.

Mystery Men?

Is Mystery Men the right answer?

Good gosh I am so tired of the farking whining around here.
"Wagh! Transformers 3 did a billion dollars. Wagh. Pirates did a billion dollars.".
STFU. If its not your money, good for you. In this bad economy its nice to see people are spending extra cash.
Or maybe no one wants to see Subbys independent film about a shoe maker in Hawaii, filmed in black and white with subtitles.

*nods vehemently*

If not for Christian Bale in The Fighter, I think you would've seen Geoffrey Rush take home a second Oscar for The King's Speech. I absolutely love what he did there.

And aye, he elevates just about every film that he's in.

Think about how Mystery Men would've been without Geoffrey Rush. Go ahead.

Or to keep this relevant, think about the second Pirates movie. The ten-second appearance of Geoffrey Rush completely trumped the two-and-a-half-hours that preceded it.

Nope. It's a trick question. He was bad in no movie. However, he has been in some not so great flicks. I don't think Mystery Men is all that bad, honestly. No, it's not a great piece of film, but it is a lot of fun, for me, and I do quite enjoy it.

I don't get the backlash. I found the movie entertaining. In fact, it was the only sequel that really caught the essence of the original ride. And yes, I believe the absence of Bloom and Knightley was essential in achieving that.

I recently got "The Anubis Gates" which I don't think is even in print anymore, not one of his best but still good. You can get it cheap used at Amazon. Lord Byron puts in an appearance.

I guess being a good movie helped it. Getting rid of the angsty love triangle and move on was a good move.

Plant Rights Activist: maybe now they can drop jack sparrow and do the next film around Barbossa.

HELL YES.

Although I'm sure that leaving Johnny Depp out of the picture would have a sizable effect on the box office earnings, I'd still want to see a Barbossa film.

I also liked the first mate guy, too. Whatever his name is.

Gibbs?

Yeah, he's always fairly interesting. I don't know if he can carry a film by his lonesome, but he could work in a Barbossa-centric film.

Very much this. It also has the unique distinction of being one of only TWO tolerable Dane Cook films-the other being the heavily underrated Mr. Brooks .

Yes,I said it.

Welcome to the new world order where the weak American dollar and the jobless recession mean that the American mainstream no longer gets to declare whether a piece of entertainment is a blockbuster or not.

Other countries have people who spend more money on movies than we do now, so marquee names are going to be more about who they pay to see than who we pay to see. Plots are going to play differently for light entertaiment in other cultures than here. johnny depp headlined two billion dollar titles. It doesn't matter if they were brilliant, dude helped land 2 billion in revenue.

It now no longer matters if he dresses funny. Same as overseas no one there cares if Jolie isn't as nice as Aniston. They'll still open here so the studios can say they're Hollywood films but they aren't made for middle America anymore.

I'd bet Aniston is kinkier in bed and Jolie is more likely not to call you incessantly. So it really depends on your mood.

Only Farkers may now declare whether a piece of entertainment is a blockbuster or not.

At least that appears to be the case in yet another entertainment thread biatching about the state of American cinema. Anything to feel superior.

As long as we're here, I'd like to remind everyone, again, that 500 Days of Summer is a piece of utter shiat.

DVD, I'm sure.
