cantsleep: barneyrubble: why do you keep all that in your car ?they deserve what they get.stupid farkers

Sometimes you need to leave stuff in your locked car. Moran.

Leaving a $4000 camera in your car in a parking lot at a baseball game in friggen St Louis is beyond stupid. They knew where they were going. They should have removed the camera beforehand or taken the damned thing into the game with them. I bet they left it sitting right on the f*cking seat too.

These people have more money than sense. They're probably obnoxious whitey b*tches and that's why the cop sluffed it off.

Nope. Minivans and wagons dont have trunks.

Most cars I've been in lately have a lever to open the trunk inside the driving compartment so your implication that a guy who's willing to break a window to get into your car is going to not bother steal what's in the trunk as well seems a little off to me.

Well if you are stupid enough to keep that much crap in your car when in the city for a game...

Seriously stupid. Hope they have home/rentors insurance.

The point is that a thief isn't going to take the time to break the window unless they know there's something good there. If they can't see it, they don't know about it. I live in a low-crime area in the county, but the local police reports are filled with things getting stolen from cars. I can't recall one where it said something was taken from the trunk.

Or.. maybe they brought the camera to the game, left it, the laptop and cell phone in the trunk of their locked car, and still had the stuff stolen. I can make up scenarios for my point as well.
Short of locking their stuff in a bank safe deposit box while they are downtown, what does FARK suggest they do with it?

Leave it at home. Very simple. And I highly doubt they thieves jacked the truck. They are going to look for easy targets... like expensive electronics sitting in plain view.

C'mon man... I'm from friggen' Canada and I'm not naive enough to think leaving valuables in the car for extended periods is a good idea.

How about this... would you leave your kid alone in a park for hours on end knowing it's frequented by pedos? Same thing.

Common sense, b*tches! IT WORKS!

Biggest problem St.Louis police (both city and county) is recent growth in burglaries during the day when people are not home. And the reason for this?

Heroin

In my south city neighborhood this spring we had a series of breakins...guess what? The guys were white and from Jeff Co and hooked on heroin.

Now theyre copper off houses in my neighborhood...pickup driving around neighborhood looking at houses with guys that got caught in the act...guess what? Jeff Co white heroin abusers.

There is no justification for crime or lazy cops...but I think they are really stretched.

And as well...county cop friend said 65 car breakins in Town and Country last week. Funny how that doesn't make the news.

Who's going to call the cops? The pidgeons or the rats?

I don't wanna - run no more, but I know that if I stop
I'll be another nubian headed to heaven, hangin with 'Pac
These motherfarkers look at me like I'm a slanger
Makin threats to my family, dawg I'm in danger
Who do you call when these agents want you dead
and they hit these penetentiaries and nubians make a pledge
So I dip and duck the feds, all my homies duck out on indictments
Caught up on the phone, talkin prices (hello)
25-to-life's the mandatory minimal
My whole community gets treated like they criminals
Why are them biatches gettin' motherfarkers hung
Got a C.I. on the inside and everybody's sung
Mothers and fathers seperated from they sons
Households are broken, you couldn't hold your tongue
If it's yours, say it's yours, take the case, do your time
When you was out here gettin' money from it everything was fine
Now you cryin' in your jail cell, stressin' on the case
And the D.A. is at a nubian every single day
I can see it in your face, in the middle of your soul
You in question of your manhood homey - keep it cold

We don't talk to police, we don't make a peace bond
We don't trust in the judicial system, we shoot guns
We rely on the streets we do battle in the hood
I was born in the G Code, embedded in my blood

Been vigilante justice around Nawlins for a good while now.

JuggleGeek: I was in a bar one night. 4 thugs with guns came in, took wallets, purses, cell phones from everyone there, about 30-40 people. At least one of the cell phones they took had GPS tracking. The cops didn't do anything to follow up on it.

Cops don't give a damn about catching thieves.

Guess what? Some cell phone companies (Cricket, for one) won't cooperate with the police.

We had an armed robbery a while back where the bad guys took an employee's cell phone. I don't remember the carrier, but I immediately called them. After talking to about five people, I got one person to actually give me the location of the cell phone. "It's within 200 meters of this address" is what I got. 200 meters? That's an entire city block. We went to that location but found nothing to help us, and the people that lived at the address they gave were an old couple that had nothing to do with the robbery.

Other cell phone companies are great. We had a high school kid report his stolen (Verizon, I think) and the cell company said "The person who has it is walking westbound on the north side of such and such street and he just crossed such and such." We go there, see a kid walking along with a backpack and find the stolen phone in the kid's backpack.

In the article the cops should have had someone follow up on that right away. It sounds like they were pretty overwhelmed at the time though. I imagine every person that found out their car had been broken into made that discovery at about the same time, so that kept them pretty busy, not to mention all the other stuff going on in St. Louis at the time.

Why would someone leave a cell phone in a car anyhow? They fit in your damn pocket. Take it with you.

These guys were breaking into cars, looking into the glove box, other compartments, under the seats, etc. Cops said they were most likely looking for guns. They left stuff in many of the cars including GPS's and phones. Thus the gun theory. That's what the cops said anyway.

Just walked around there today. A dying downtown.

I used to live in North County. I wouldn't want to leave a $4000 car parked downtown, let alone have $4000 of anything in it. You don't want to even leave stray pennies on the floorboards.

How much does a used GPS go for at a pawn shop? $10? Barely worth stealing.

That's... the only thing you have to say on the whole topic? Your entire opinion is that I should keep feeding trolls and arguing with morons? And in lieu of some rationale for why I should behave differently, you call me a name?

Doesn't really make sense. Guess I touched a nerve, eh? Or are you a second account of the first guy? Whatever.

I generally tell people they're ignored so that they don't keep wasting their time crafting snarky replies I won't see. There's plenty of internet tough guys like you that they should be replying to instead. I know that makes me seem less masculine on the internet, but I'm pretty secure in my gender identity. That's not a very good way to ruffle me.

A tip for your next alt account: you should use some of those silly debate terms like "post hoc ergo propter hoc" to rebut my points, I can never keep those things straight and it flusters me; easily the best way to troll me.

There's lots and lots and lots and lots of Catholics, they like ceremonial things like weddings, mock-drowning recently born infants that were not aborted and burying dead relatives' corpses in perfectly good ground.

there's also a giant military cemetery in the south part of the area.

adammpower: Best of luck to you. I had no real opinions about Des Moines before i took a job up here. Have really fell in love with the pace though. Nice people and great community to be in. Reminds me of a laid back small Euro-city a lot of days.

Six years ago, we had a rash of car burglaries in the Sherman Hill area of Des Moines. They broke into my car four or five times, once stealing my flashlight to took around in the SUV parked next to my car in a lighted, off street parking lot behind our building. At no time could the Des Moines PD be bothered to come out. Then two blocks over, the car of a lesbian couple got hit and there were five cop cars on scene and TV cameras from all three stations. Why? Well, it's a "hate crime" now. fark that, how is it different that the crooks hated I had something they wanted and took it?

What stealing in St. Louis might look like.

2011-07-02 07:59:15 PM
CSB time, vigilante division:

Thirty some years ago a kid who worked for my dad in Mason City, IA, had his motorcycle stolen from his garage one night. A few days later, he hears it might have been done by a guy a couple of blocks from his house. He waits until the guy has left for work and goes over to look in the window of the guy's garage, Yup, his bike is in there, but the garage is locked up tight.

So, he goes to the cops and they tell him they cannot even go look as my friend's word is not probable cause. However, the desk sargent takes him aside and gives him a name and phone number of another guy. He tells the kid this guy, for $50 will break in and steal it back. The kid goes to the guy and talks with him, Then the guys tells him, "Yeah, for $50, I'll break-in and get your bike. Pay me $100 and I do that and kill the guy who stole it from you, too."

That was when the kid decided to just forget about the whole thing.

CruiserTwelve: Guess what? Some cell phone companies (Cricket, for one) won't cooperate with the police.

Irrelevant in this case, since the girl who knew they had her cell phone could log in online and tell where it was at. She tried to get the cops to go to that address and nab the thugs. The cops didn't care.

She also refused to give me the address, saying "No, the cops should handle this".

2011-07-02 08:51:14 PM
The largest demographic group in St Louis is what the news calls "youths" or "teens" ... so of course their police department is perpetually overwhelmed and incompetent.
