Our home and native land...

Happy Canada Day everyone!

Well, at least our home - only my son was born here - the wife is from the US and I was born in Germany. This makes us great Canadians in our home and (adopted) native land.

/Off to Ivor Wynne for a football game.
//Lots of drunken parties starting here in the Hammer already.

dennysgod: That was funny "Our home on native land"

Could you image the Conservative outrage/butt-hurt if some American actor did this with the Star Spangled Banner. "Land of the free, and former home, of the Indian Braves"

The land of the free and the home of the slaaaaaaave!

Two letters. I turned it into a parody by changing only two letters.

It's sad. Because it's true.

But don't worry. We love yah. Sort of. Grudgingly. About half of you, depending on politics, etc. But then you can say the same about your compatriots, can't you?

Canadian history 101:

On the First Day canadian god created snow; and canadian god saw that it was good.

On the Second Day canadian god created bears and all the other furry varmits. And canadian god saw that it was good.

On the Third Day canadian god created man; but something was missing. So canadian god took the man's hokey stick an broke it in half; and from the second half he created woman.

From that day on; hokey sticks could only be as long as the one that canadian god had broken.

Blairr: Barbigazi: That Canada still pledges allegiance to the Queen. Not sovereign.

We've a representative democracy without having a war, unlike the USA who achieved a representative democracy through war.

Ya sure, Canada Day isn't as cool as Independence Day 'cause there wasn't any blood-spilled.

So for those of us paying attention,

1. We're an independent democracy
2. We've achieved that through peaceful means
3. We've retained ties and good relations with those across the pond

It's not that we still pledge allegiance to the Queen, it's that we're still a part of the commonwealth, for the common good.

Completely inline with the principles that our confederation hoped to embody; peace, order and good government.

Now fark off and go blow up some shiny, loud fireworks and fill your face with fatty hot-dogs lest you have to think critically for a moment. Bunch of idiot Yankees who scream about the Queen's oppressive ways, ignorant to that fact that the commonwealth has no idea what you're talking about.

Your founding fathers broke away from the Monarchy for personal greed and contempt for the common good. Alot of people lost their life for their greed.

Yawn.

As I mention in damn near every Canadian thread, I like you guys. Depending on how things go, the SO wants to go to grad school up in your fine country and I'll probably take a skilled worker stab at things if it ends up that way. Thanks to growing up on the border, I'm absurdly familiar with a good amount of your history and culture and thanks to hockey games know all the words to O Canada.

But Jesus effing Christ, *you* need to take a step back and relax.

But, oh, I can't resist - so your Governor General, still appointed by The Queen? Are you a Harper fan or did you not enjoy the pivotal role she played a few years back, eh?

The governor general is picked by the prime minister, then appointed by the queen. She has no say in it.

Hmm. I don't have anyone on ignore. Ah, heck, maybe I should start.

And don't worry, I won't hold the occasional crazy against you guys. I'd ask for the same courtesy, but with Florida I'm not sure that's entirely a fair trade.
