It's one heck of a nice little piece of the crumbling British Empire I suppose.

They're only 235 years behind the times though.

That Canada still pledges allegiance to the Queen. Not sovereign.

Yes, it's adorable that you can't grasp the difference between a head of state and a head of government, but seriously.

AnubisMan: Is this the day Tim Hortons was founded?

Close! It's the day a hockey fan had chili cheese fries, then got so drunk he couldn't remember what was supposed to go on top of the fries. So he dug out leftovers, heated them up, and was exiled from civilization for his efforts.

He fled to the land we now know as Canada, and founded the nation upon the principles of freedom and liberty and hockey.

Correct. But to be technical, we pledge to the Queen of Canada, not to the Queen of England.

You're proving my point for me. Johnston, as the GG, has no real control over government, because he's the representative of the head of state, not a member of the government.

Also, your profile says you're from the States. Kindly explain to me how pledging allegiance to a Queen is somehow MORE ridiculous than pledging allegiance to a piece of cloth.

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America . . .

Hayden, Rheostatics, Sloan, City and Colour (spelled right), Feist, Skydiggers, Tea Party, Godspeed you!Black Emperor

Unfortunatley the world thinks of Celine, or Shania,or Nickelshiat, or Alannis when they think of Canadian music.
