p.s. NY is going to take the rest of the series. :)
2003-08-30 03:22:51 AM

Not Chicago. Twins. The White Sox are the biggest fluke in baseball. Yes, even bigger than KC.
2003-08-30 03:26:42 AM
The Yankees might suck, but they are still in first place at the moment and have the best record in the AL. I wish the Dodgers sucked that bad.

I don't think the NL team is going to win the series this year. The Braves are great offensively, but their pitching staff has question marks outside of Russ Ortiz (who has a great record, but also has great run support). The Giants are good, but not that good. I'm the first person to bash Barry Bonds, but the man makes an honest to goodness difference in that line-up and makes them that much better.

2003 MLB RPI Rankings
1 Atlanta .539 85 48 .639 .506 2 750 613 80-53 .600
2 San Francisco .529 80 52 .606 .503 1 602 533 74-58 .561

Try to make sense of that.

Way to go ladodger34 you gave us really shaky reasons on why the NL won't win the World Series what make the AL so special? Their DH's are better hitters than the NL's pitchers?

The NL will win the World Series.
2003-08-30 04:04:21 AM

Let me add one more. YANKEES SUCK!

I'm hoping the Tigers lose one more for the all time hall of shame. Nice to know a team sucks worse then our D Rays.

(Insert Lou Pinella rant about pitching/hitting/everything here : - ) )

Go Yankees!

More importantly: Twins Win, White Sox Lose, Royals Lose.

now there's three teams within a half game of eachother in the central :)

Dude, you're embarassing us. As a fellow Padres fan, might I remind you that posting a picture of a team that is 30 games below .500 in a thread about 2 powerhouses fighting for the postseason makes the Padres look all the more foolish.

Let's not remind these people of our ineptitude. Let's try to minimise it so that when we're in contention, they won't remember how laughable we were showing our face in a thread where we couldn't even begin to hold the jock of either team.
2003-08-30 06:44:53 AM

Back when AROD was in Seattle, I'd always call KJR (sports radio) and say how I saw Jeter and AROD together at Neighbor's (gay club).

Boy howdy, those teeny boppers would be pissed and call after that.

I finally saw that Law & Order episode where Mike Piazza kills him limo driver because the limo driver knew he was gay and on roids. Well, not Piazza. They changed the character to Darin Erstad, but that's OK. Same difference.

Come October when Jorge Posada is calling pitches for the Yankees, the Red Sox catcher will be calling for a pizza. All is right with the world.
2003-08-30 08:12:17 AM
Wow- coupla weeks ago it looked like the Sox may as well just forget about the division. Of course, they could lose the next two and be in roughly the same spot. But if they play well, they should make the playoffs- if Oakland, Seattle OR NY choke and the Sox play well, they get a spot. With the way Seattle's playing, and the way NY's pitching is looking, they have a great shot. I personally would love to see the Sox somehow steal the division, and Seattle step it up and win the Wild Card. Yankee-free postseason (dare to dream)

In any case- what a fantastic season- 4 very good division races (NL East and NL West pretty well locked up) a heavily contested AL wild card, and a ridiculous NL wild card that NO ONE WANTS TO WIN!!! Should make for a fantastic September.

Wow- coupla weeks ago the EPL and Bundesliga seasons started and I stopped caring about baseball.

I don't much like the Bundesliga. But Man United rules all of football.

heh. I woke up this morning, threw on my yankees suck t-shirt, pulled up fark and saw this. Very good. As opposed to not waking up.

Yankees: 26 World Championships in 70 years.
Red Sox: 0 World Championships since 1918

Yankees: Best record in the American League.
Red Sox: Third best record in the American League.

Yankees: The most storied, gloried and envied franchise in all of professional sports.
Red Sox: The second most heartbroken, pathetic and futile team in major league baseball.

If the Yankees suck, then what is it that the Red Sox do?

Blow? Swallow?

SINCE 1918,
Yankees 26
Red Sox 0

Meanwhile, on the best coast, the A's have won their seventh straight.

Hey, I'm a transplant to the Red Sox Nation ("Go Tigers!" er, uh, forget it..) and I had to keep reminding my wife that while Colin Powell said "Perpetual optimism is a force-multiplier," lying to yourself about the Sox chances in August is still lying to yourself. :)

However, it is the end of August. Knock on wood, the annual "August Red Sox Meltdown" has not occurred.

Now on to the second coming of Christ.

It's amazing how little actual baseball knowledge has been displayed here. I would have figured a few Farkers would at least said something relevant to the game today on Fox, and the game tomorrow night.
Here's to hoping Pettitte had a long night of tossing and turning in his bed at the thought of having to face the Red Sox offense, possibly with Ramirez back today. Let's also hope Pedro doesn't pull his usual Yankee shtick and go 6/7 up by 1 or tied.
2003-08-30 11:27:06 AM
yankees gonna die.

/doesn't care, dawgs play in 35 min

L'EnfantTerrible Listen, I don't know about the rest of the USA, but I sure as hell don't envy anything about NY, let alone the Yankee's.

Cardinal You keep telling yourself your on the best coast. Maybe one day it will be true
2003-08-30 11:33:09 AM
Yankees fans lack courage. That's why the pick the Yankees as they're team. Classic bandwagoners.

Sox fans on the other hand don't give a crap about 1918 or your 26 rings. We like a challenge and will always root for the good guys.

$180MM payroll? Satan? Let's shake on it.
2003-08-30 11:40:39 AM
Hey I'm from Boston and a hardcore Sox fan but those Yankees Suck chants have got to go. Especially when the Yanks aren't even in the same ballpark. That said, I hope the Sox stomp and sweep the Yankees this weekend just to see what Georgie says in the press the next day. And at least this year we have a great playoff race that didn't end with a Sox collapse after the All-Star break.
2003-08-30 11:47:32 AM
Publikwerks, if it isn't envy, what is it? What other LEGITIMATE reason do people have for hating the Yankees besides their success?

And why is it that everyone that roots for a successful team is automatically deemed a bandwagoner? For the record, I endured the incredibly shiatty early '90's before the good years came. Nobody calls Red Sox fans bandwagoners, even though they've had some good teams over the years.

Face it, if the Red Sox had the same financial situation as the Yankees, they'd be doing the same exact thing, spending the same amount of money, and they'd be just as right to do it as the Yankees are. The only difference is that we'd still be "satan", and you'd be the "good guys".
2003-08-30 11:48:44 AM
Every time a (anti)-Yankees thread gets posted, some idiot brings up the payroll argument. Yes, the Yankees have the highest payroll. But Texas and the Mets are also in the top five, both of whom suck. Los Angeles is just above .500.

The payroll argument is specious. And it seems to always come from Boston fans, whose team is also in the top five payrolls.
2003-08-30 11:49:11 AM
If the Red Sox win the World Series this year, I will post pictures of myself running down the street wearing nothing but a sock covering the naughty bits and "I WAS WRONG, YANKEES SUCK" written on my ass.

/Has a big ass
2003-08-30 11:50:15 AM
p.s. Most Yankees fans do not like George Steinbrenner.

that is all.
2003-08-30 11:50:41 AM
Lemme rephrase that:

"What other LEGITIMATE reason (besides George Steinbrenner) do people have for hating the Yankees besides their success?"

I don't particularly like Steinbrenner myself, but I love what he does for the team.
2003-08-30 11:54:47 AM
I'm not taking anything away from Cashman and his ability to assemble a good team. But they're payroll is a good $40MM in the lead. That's ridiculous.

Hey Publick: Got sleet?
2003-08-30 12:13:50 PM
Im going to settle this "payroll" issue once and for all. George Steinbrenner went on record a few months ago saying that several MLB team owners in the leauge have as much, if not more, money than he does. Carl Pohlad (owner of the Twins) has almost TWICE as much scratch in the bank. The difference is that Steinbrenner treats his club like a business, and realizes that it takes money to make money.
2003-08-30 12:15:13 PM
Ya ever notice how Yankee fans only participate in the rivalry when they're worried? Here in New England, we're always obsessed with the Yankees, because we have an inferiority complex. But when the Yanks are flyting high, their fans act like they're above such petty matters. The Yanks are a damn good team, that's why they're in first, but the Sox (another great team, blow it out yr ass you haters) are breathing down their necks.
2003-08-30 12:17:35 PM
The way people talk about the Yankees payroll makes it sound as if they got the $180M by robbing orphanages.

The fact of the matter is the Yankees got their $180M fair and square and there's nothing stopping them from spending it as they please. We should have to be made to feel ashamed because we have a financial advantage.

If any other team in baseball, not the least of which the Red Sox, had $180M to spend on payroll, they would spend it in no time.
2003-08-30 12:22:08 PM
I agree, L'enphant

Don't hate the playa, hate the game. Or hate both. Actually, hating both is probably preferable.
2003-08-30 12:23:07 PM
Those who don't understand the "evil empire" feelings about the Yanks and prattle on about 26 World Championships do not understand the history of the Yanks and New York Baseball in general. Teams who, especially early in the 20th Century hijacked not just players but entire teams (look up the purging of Baltimore by the then New York Giants c. early 1900's) and built their dominance through what would be considered organized crime syndicate style tactics. Now Cashman's crying because teams are actually asking for something in return for their marquis players and not acting like good little farm teams.

That said. Lay off the Yanks fans as all being bandwagoners. Some of the best fans in baseball fans are New Yorkers (and yes i live and die with the Sox). It's those punks and losers from around the country who have no clue what they're talking about, and are just latching on because their own lives are so devoid of meaning. funniest thing i ever saw was a kid two years ago with a Yankees hat a Patriots jersey and Lakers sweatpants. I walked by ands said "sorry about your penis".
2003-08-30 12:24:20 PM
The Yankees aren't evil because of payroll. They aren't evil because they're from New York, or the East Coast. Hell, the Yankees aren't evil because of Steinbrenner (tho he is evil himself). The Yankees are evil in general because they have been far and away the most successful team in baseball, creating resentment. And they're specifically evil here bacause they're in the same division as the Red Sox and are often just that much better than our local boys (oh, how it galls me to say that). See, the tragedy of the Sox is that they usually ARE a god team, they just haven't been good enough to win a world championship in 85 years. I'd bet their regular season win/loss record for the past 30 years is one of the best in baseball.
