Here's a little hint, that crack team of highly trained CQB specialists ain't. Your average SWAT operator is a patrol cop with at best a few hours of training with his weapons and a hundred or so rounds out of it a month, see the Marine that got murdered by a squad of wannabe mall ninjas not too long ago. If you watched the video that was released and you knew anything at all about tactical entry and close quarters operations you'd be of the opinion that the SWAT team in question learned everything they knew from playing Counterstrike and Modern Warfare.

There are teams that are comprised of silent professionals in cities large enough to fund them (ain't cheap, just to keep myself sharp on my carry arms I usually go through $150 in ammo a week) but they are few and far between. Usually you're dealing with some beat badge who wants to be on the team just for the street credit and to pick up loose skirts, that's it. No extra qualifying abilities or experience, just some cop in his mid twenties who wined and complained loud enough to his superiors while keeping himself out of felony trouble until they put him on the team.

Unless it's a big city with enough income to support one, say like LA or NY or ATL, Denver jumped up because of Columbine and noone wants a repeat so SWAT teams in the Denver area are practically thrown all the money and training they want, it's like some group of cops who aren't even a team full time throwing on everything they could find from the Blackhawk! catalog and trying to be macho men.

Let the beat cops keep their pistols, and take away every single firearm handed to a SWAT team in every city under 1 Million people. Let FBI SRTs take over the stickville CQB and entry operations, it'll save lives whether they be innocent, criminal or law enforcement.

When I lived in Saint Paul, I had a similar situation. Car left in front of my house. I waited three days, then left a note on the car. No response. A few days later a guy came up to my door, rang the doorbell and told me that it was his car, it was out of gas, and would I please not call the cops. A week later, I called the cops, and immediately it was towed, and as they were towing it I asked the officer what was up with it. He told me it was stolen from Saint Cloud. The whole situation seemed screwy. I didn't believe the cops for a minute. It felt like a sting operation, as I lived just down the street from a bar that the cops really don't like.

Shortly after I bought this house, I was sitting in my basement entertainment center, and heard a big BOOM BOOM BOOM on my front door. I go upstairs to answer my door, and there's two cops. I ask if I can help them, and they say that there was a domestic disturbance reported at my residence. I was the only one home, and I told them so. Their reply was "Oh, we must have the wrong house", and they left. No investigation, no questioning, they just left. Maybe because I'm a white guy. I don't know. But it was odd.
