I don't understand why this is a news story.
2001-10-26 12:02:56 PM
How is "I don't have anthrax" the same as "I am not a crook"?
2001-10-26 12:04:58 PM
No kidding....geeze, next thing we are going to hear is Michael (Jacko) Jackso, is back to wearing his mask and living in a plastic bubble.
2001-10-26 12:06:07 PM
goddamnit the media is annoying both sides.
2001-10-26 12:06:17 PM
On the Next Political Insider by Charles Babington. Pres bush announces "I forgot to wipe my ass" The country is stricken with fear unheard of since the anouncement of the attack on pearl harbor.
2001-10-26 12:10:54 PM
I'd be surprised if he remembered to wipe his ass.
2001-10-26 12:11:11 PM
our wonderful test conversation disappeared... how horrible!
2001-10-26 12:11:19 PM
Ask him: "Do you still beat your wife?"
2001-10-26 12:11:35 PM
TechLive was reporting yesterday that he said he does not have Anthrax.
2001-10-26 12:11:38 PM
Tzzhc4: True enough, of course he's been and will continue to be tested. What I don't understand is why on earth he wouldn't answer the question, and wouldn't want people to know that he *is* being tested? Is that somehow going to undermine my confidence in our government's ability to fight this 'war' on terrorism? Do they *really* think that we're all that farking naive?!?!? Scary.

Agreed, though, very badly written article...
2001-10-26 12:12:29 PM
Caboozy: of course he does. He's from Texas.

2001-10-26 12:12:57 PM
We need a 'Yawn' tag for this one.
2001-10-26 12:15:32 PM
now what was I doing before being interrupted by this complete waste of time?
2001-10-26 12:17:03 PM
Yep, I done don't know if I be tested fer Anthrax, I rekon.
2001-10-26 12:19:05 PM
Record store:
"Do you have any Anthrax cd's?"
"I don't have Anthrax"
"How about Slayer?"
"I don't have Anthrax."
"O.K. Megadeth?"
"I don't have Anthrax."
2001-10-26 12:21:12 PM
and this is post worthy...why?
2001-10-26 12:21:38 PM
10 PRINT "I don't have Anthrax!"
20 GOTO 10
2001-10-26 12:22:53 PM
"I don't have it" is not the same as "I haven't been exposed to it". Wonder if he's weaseling that difference?
2001-10-26 12:28:14 PM
Bush: "Of course I don't have anthrax you dumb moron, I've been vaccinated."

Reporter: "you mean that just because you're the President you get to be vaccinated while everyone else doesn't?"

Bush: "um, did I say vaccinated? I meant vacillated!"
2001-10-26 12:28:31 PM
Why ditch the question? I would feel better knowing he WAS tested for it.
2001-10-26 12:30:10 PM
Bush: "I mean ventilated."
2001-10-26 12:34:37 PM
He claims he didn't inhale
2001-10-26 12:35:30 PM
Hmmmm? I never even heard the rumor that he had been around anthrax let alone contracted it.
2001-10-26 12:36:50 PM
Like Dan Rather, he'd be an idiot for NOT being tested. Why can't he just say "hell yea, I've been tested".

He's hedging something. Bush is normally loose in his words (when he's not reading) and he's being very careful here.
2001-10-26 12:37:22 PM
This is boring. The media has nothing good to talk about, so they focus on stupid petty crap to fill the pages...
2001-10-26 12:39:11 PM
:BWhy ditch the question? I would feel better knowing he WAS tested for it.:B

He wants to be like Brokaw. He doesn't want the person sending this shiot out knowing that he's scared. Don't any of you get it! He's trying to come of as being a strong, not scared leader.
2001-10-26 12:41:53 PM
Meanwhile, he looks foolish for responding "I don't have anthrax" to a direct question. The effect is the same, we just think he's a moron.
2001-10-26 12:46:59 PM
The real question is, what the hell is wrong with the media today? Why are they so stupid that they must ask such obvious questions? What tomorrow, as the President if 2+2=4?
2001-10-26 12:51:56 PM
reporter: Mr.President, what is your response to all those Farkin Fark Losers who sit on their ass at a computer all day and call it work and critisize the way you are keeping America away from the brink of Armageddon?

Bush: 'Well sir let just say that when the draft is re-instated, and to be sure it will be eventually, I have used my connections to move all those Farkin' Computer addicted self-centered Geekozoids, that's a good word aint it? Heh heh. Anyway they will be moved to the top of the list. Any that don't go will be shot for commiting treason. TAKE THAT YOU FARKIN' ANTI-AMERICAN COMMIES!!Heh Heh. Next question please
2001-10-26 12:55:34 PM
I thought the test thread was more exciting then that article. Stupid Flanders
2001-10-26 01:04:56 PM
A couple weeks ago I heard a Fox reporter ask Rumsfield if he could guarantee that smart bombs were 100% accurate all of the time. Duh.
After he said no, they flashed a message on the bottom of the screen that said, "Rumsfield: Smart boombs not 100% effective"
They fish for quotes.
2001-10-26 01:06:06 PM
i meant- "Rumsfield: Smart boombs not 100% ACCURATE"
2001-10-26 01:06:54 PM
2001-10-26 01:10:55 PM
2001-10-26 01:14:02 PM
Hey Daz, if our VICE President at one time couldn't spell potato(e), do you really think Bush is gonna know what 2+2 equals? :p
2001-10-26 01:19:33 PM
What I don't understand is why on earth he wouldn't answer the question, and wouldn't want people to know that he *is* being tested?

Because the next thing you'd see is screaming banners, "PRESIDENT TESTED FOR ANTHRAX!" on all of the news channels, and a certain number of the people would flip out. Watching everything that's happened during and since Sept. 11, I've come to the conclusion that some fraction of the population simply cannot adequately assess risk, and go nuts whenever their universe is perturbed.

Someone mentioned vaccinations against anthrax. I doubt that Bush has been vaccinated. It requires a total of 6 injections over a total of 18 months, and can have serious deleterious side effects. The Secret Service is more likely to rely on keeping him away from the stuff in the first place, or in the unlikely case that he's exposed, would count on treatment to protect him from the effects.
2001-10-26 01:19:43 PM
Maybe... just maybe he doesn't want people (like the terrorists) to know that he was exposed to it and he doesn't want to lie so he sticks to that answer. (Unlike some other presidents I don't think Bush thinks lying is OK.) Either way, he's not stupid, he's not afraid and the media will continue asking stupid fukcing questions so they can sensationalize every little thing for ratings.
2001-10-26 01:23:43 PM
the biggest risk we have on losing this war is the Media. Like when they find out where one of the mailboxes used to send the anthrax and tell the whole world 'HEY DON"T MAIL YOUR SHIAT OVER HERE ANYMORE< YOU MIGHT GET CAUGHT!' makes me sick
2001-10-26 01:25:05 PM
Dullard: Yep, the media figures out what story they want to write and then go find the information to support it. Whatever information doesn't support the story gets thrown aside.

Example: The media plasters the problem of afghan civilian casualties across the screen daily, even though the vast majority of the American people know that civilian casualties will happen during war and are willing to accept it. The media WANTS it to be a big concern so they continuously bombard us with it hoping to stir up controversy, thereby increasing their ratings.

FifthColumn: We don't all beat our wives. Some of us just beat people from Michigan.
2001-10-26 01:25:27 PM
Lame story, lame post.
2001-10-26 01:34:40 PM
How is Bush going to come into contact with Anthrax? Hey, lookie Dick, my new issue of Tiger Beat is here! And look at all this white powder, boy does this take me back!
2001-10-26 01:39:41 PM
Leave it to those commies at the Washington Post to come up with shiat like this. Go read the Washington Times.
2001-10-26 01:47:29 PM
Tinrobot--That's why CNN plays the same "news" over and over and over....
2001-10-26 02:26:52 PM
One reason for Bush not to affirm that he was tested is that it then leads to: "If you were tested, that must mean that there's a concern that you were exposed. Were you exposed?" "Who screwed up and let you get exposed?" "Was the test negative, or did it find a less-than-infectious dose of spores?" "What caused you to have to take this test? How might anthrax have been introduced in an area where you were?" "What are you going to do if develop anthrax?" "Are you taking Cipro as a precaution?" "If they can get to you, is any American safe?" Yada yada yada. Who'd want to have to deal with that crappola? Refusing to comment on the subject of testing is smart.
2001-10-26 02:32:25 PM
Michigan sucks. Austin rocks..

Agreed, stupid story. He is putting on a positive face, well, as positive as he can considering what's going on. I'm just waiting for him to crack up and go after a member of the media who asks him a stupid question. Go mid-evil on 'em Dubya.
2001-10-26 02:32:32 PM
I've come to the conclusion that some fraction of the population simply cannot adequately assess risk, and go nuts whenever their universe is perturbed.

You'll get no argument about that out of me, that's for sure. Plenty of people aren't capable of processing this sort of information in order to come to a sensible and logical conclusion. After all, it's much easier to run and push the panic button than to sit back and carefully consider the possibilities.

Look at the speculation that his rather distanced and evasive response to a simple question has already drummed up here on Fark. It stands to reason that, given the response, the media is going to draw the same suspicious conclusions (i.e. "why wouldn't he answer the question? what's wrong?!), thus negating any hysteria-reducing effects.

I'd rather have my president be forthright and honest about the threats that exist to both his person and our country than have him be evasive. It's bad enough that many people don't trust the mail system because of this; there's no need to erode the public trust and confidence in the president.
2001-10-26 02:36:10 PM
One reason for Bush not to affirm that he was tested is that it then leads to: "If you were tested, that must mean that there's a concern that you were exposed. Were you exposed?" -snip-

True, but many people are already asking themselves those questions anyway - the media's already worked the public into a frenzy about an Anthrax threat, and most folks are already concerned about being exposed.

It's not a matter of wanting to deal with the potential crappola, but rather dealing with the crappola that's already here. The obvious answer to "why would the president get tested for anthrax?" would be: DUH. Of course he's being tested, just like most of the folks intimately involved with the operations of our government - all of whom are primary terrorist targets - should be tested.
2001-10-26 02:44:11 PM
to the washington post: W. says he doesn't have it.
how would he know? he got tested. if he didn't get tested, he wouldn't know if he didn't have it. duh.

W. says he just got out of the car.
washingtonpost: did you just get out of the car?
2001-10-26 03:07:19 PM
More likely, he didn't want the headlines to scream 'BUSH TESTED FOR ANTHRAX'.. stupid Entertainment Tonight and Extra!
2001-10-26 03:40:48 PM
In other news, President Bush announced that he had finished another coloring book...

Cruel, yes.
