Hello everyone!

Been traveling a lot lately. I probably shouldn't even start a note saying that, it'd only be news if I wasn't.

Wanted to give folks a heads up, mark out your calendars for Mar 30 - Apr 1 next year in Las Vegas for the 2nd World Fark Nascon Meetup Name To Be Determined Later. We're getting a much earlier jump on things this time. Probably going to be at Treasure Island again since they did right by us, but we're still gonna bid it out to make sure we're getting the best deal for you. We should have location locked down much sooner than we did last time.

We're also planning on leaving a lot of free time for folks to come up with their own mini-outings; this worked extremely well last time. So on that note, be thinking about a couple of things:

1) who would you like to see as guests next year?
2) what kinds of mini-outings would you be interested in hosting?

Run those around in your head and we'll revisit this in a month or so.

So then Drew will be providing us with free Peeps and chocolate bunnies? Can we get a liter strung up on a cross in Kahunaville while the bartenders blow whistles and pour liquor into peoples' mouths while there are smoke machines and strobe lights? Because otherwise, f*ck this.

I feel the same way.

Starryeyes: X1's Here: Hahaha...ummm..wut?!?!

How many shows and concerts are running in any other city besides Vegas at one time, aside from NY? You can't really argue that there is more to do within walking distance in central NOLA compared to Vegas...

I certainly can...at any given time, there are music concerts going on in NOLA. There are haunted history tours, paddlewheel boat tours, cemetery tours, Irish History tours, swamp tours, airplane and helicopter rides, The Insectarium, the Audubon Zoo, cooking classes, the IMAX and the Aquarium. There is the art museum, the Ogden Museum, several Voodoo Museums and the D-Day Museum. There are mule-drawn carriage rides, the French Market, Bourbon Street, and the streetcar. There is a Harrah's casino, and there are video poker machines in every corner in almost every bar. There is fishing, boating, golfing and hunting all within close range.
The French Quarter is a 78 square block area, and is brimming with bars, awesome food, puppet shows, musical entertainment of all sorts...just plain entertainment. Strip clubs too, for those that are inclined.
Cheap food, cheap drinks, cheap entertainment. Hotels are reasonable, as well, and there are more conference centers than I can even name.

you think people are going to go fishing during a fark party?

I'm honestly not digging on NOLA, I was there last year and had a really fun time - I just don't think that it really offers the full variety and centrality of venues that you get in Vegas.

2011-06-28 04:15:06 PM
Also, that can be said about any major city - I could argue strongly for why we should have the party in Boston - manageable city with tons of history and culture and excellent food and higher likelihood that EuroFarkers might be able to make the trip, etc... but I don't think it's a better choice than Vegas for this sort of thing, convenient as it would be for me.

really, Chicago would be the logical choice for a NaSkAr Meme-orial To Be Named Later because a) central location with a couple big airports and b) he was from here and c) 50% of us are already within driving distance

I still think it should be Vegas, just sayin' in case Vegas gets nuked or they run out of water or something

I have been to Vegas before last year, and I saw MUCH less of it this time around. There was always someone to hang out with or something to do close by or in TI, so I didn't really leave there very much. I guess it's not true for everyone, but I think the draw was way more the company, less the location.

Yay! Maybe with a solid amount of notice, I can plan my leave dates to coincide. My wife just mentioned today that she wants to go back to Vegas. Only problem is, we are supposed to be going to Ireland sometime next year.

Problem with Chicago: you don't want to hold it the second week of April here. You *might* get lucky with weather...and you might get crap.

Vegas is still Vegas. And I'm willing to bet the deals will be substantially better this year with the extra planning. GET IT BET CUZ VEGASLLOLOOOLOL sorry.

But if we move off of Vegas for any reason...Chicago.

Plane tickets to Sydney for those dates are only $2,000. GOOD IDEA.

Glory holin'. If I take my TMJ meds, I can make $2,000 in a day (also saving money on food), easy.

I say we just have it in Boston and hire the entire restaurant and bar at Eastern Standard for 48 hours and see if we can think of a drink the bartenders can't make.
