You know that's Star Trek, right? Of course you do. It's a brilliant built-in troll. You win. You bastard. You win.

HAHAHAHA Star Trek?? You apparently have no clue to his reference was is undoubtedly Star Wars, the quote: Obi-Wan: I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced."

Really? You actually got someone with that old gag. Bravo!
I remember the great struggle Captain Picard had with those pesky tribbles..what a mess

When someone asks you about me, and they will, would you tell them I said. You know, I've had three hundred years to think of appropriate words. I wanted something memorable, you know, quotable? Would you tell them I said 'Chevron Nine. Locked.' I know. I know. Enigmatic. Provocative. They'll understand. Well, good-bye to you all. Many thanks. Here's the end of me. Oh, dear. That's not right. 'Encoded.' No. That's not right, either.

My friend just jumped back in after completing his Bachelor's Degree. He had been looking forward to it for months now. Now, I have to break this news to him... HAHAHA!

I beta's this game and really didn't see anything special. While he was playing, he showed me the in-game stuff, and it sure seemed neat, but, I couldn't see paying money to play it.

Good, nothing less than what SOE and LA deserves for that abortion called the NGE, TWO WEEKS after releasing an expansion.

Got out very soon after that, sold my tricked out X-Wing for $300 USD. Missed the player cities, and the crafting system the most.

/Please be good TOR, please be good....so tired of WoW...

2011-06-25 04:37:50 PM
I had SWG preorderd. Then some of my friends that got in on the BETA said it sucked and that they we're canceling their preorders. I still wanted to believe. Then I saw thier crappy excuse as to why starships were not in the original release, that they wanted to give players characters a chance to mature. How can you have a Star Wars MMORPG that launches with out the ability to fly in space? I haven't played in 7 years and I haven't looked back.

I beta tested it. We all told them not to release it because it was buggy as hell and no fun. They ignored us and released it anyway, because they're Sony and they don't give a shiat what we think.

2011-06-25 05:13:32 PM
Star Wars. Star Trek. Its essentially the same thing with the elves and orcs and fire swords and space euros and doozers and what not. Am I right?

I enjoyed SWG when it was first released. farking loved Jump to Lightspeed. Then Sony decided to say FU we're redoing everything. Then came the surprise buttsecks when they redid everything again without telling anyone.

Fantastic MMO when released, but I sort of rage quit about a year into it when they didn't fix creature handler pets after constant moaning..maybe it was just me doing the moaning. Still, I was damn proud of having tamed that Rancor.

I never experienced the NGE, thank fark.

I love these kind of threads, they make me really appreciate my life. I may get bored sometimes and the day to day grind can seem uneventful, but at no point in my life have I ever been so pathetic that I wasted 7 years of rage on a video game patch. I can't even comprehend the sadness and social awkwardness that says "You know, with the global econoomy down the shiatter, religous extremist taking over, and ongoing genocides around the world, I'm going to invest my time and energy into hating a company for making a patch for a video game that I didn't like". Enjoy your schadenfreude and I'll enjoy mine. It's meta schadenfreude!

Considering Star Wars: The Old Republic is going to drop in a few months it's better to get this out of the way now.

What`s Star Wars Galaxies?

2011-06-25 06:32:50 PM
Though unrelated to the NGE, I always thought that the space game in SWG was actually pretty good. I liked the ability to select your own fighter and then upgrade it with specific parts, which you could buy from players or make yourself. If they took that engine/premise and built a freelancer-type game (starting unaffiliated but eventually choosing to side with rebels/new republic, imperials/remnant, or private enterprise/pirates), it would probably work pretty well.

But I don't think there's been a space sim game in development in 10 years. EVE goes far more in depth with that premise but it has several points that turn me off: too sandbox (e.g. no story to speak of), too grindy, community is too cutthroat for idle players, and it's not so much a fighter/space sim as an economy sim.

I got out after they destroyed my Neutron Pixie business. I had dumped my entire net worth into a massive batch, and then they took down the servers with an unannounced patch that nerfed the hell out of them, reducing my stock to nothing. Left soon after that.

Also, the whole Jedi holocron fiasco was ridiculous. The system was not implemented properly.

Yeah, galaxies just wasn't very good. It was fun for a bit because the other people were fun and the universe, but as a game, it sucked. I ended up getting bored and becoming a piano man style musician for a month then quitting.

/pvp for me back then was too laggy

2011-06-25 06:55:55 PM
Well, shouldn't the fact that this game will effectively never exist in the same form again, and that video games are increasingly being designed in a similar fashion (where they have to be routed through a central server or they cease to work), be disconcerting?

Visualize rack after rack of Dell servers with beautiful fiber cabling linking them.

CSB: I switched middle schools in mid-year, and had to get acquainted with the new school. I didn't know anyone so I just did my schoolwork, and my straight As prompted a teacher to invite me into some kind of sci-fi book club. I show up and the room is full of the most stereotypical middle school nerds you can imagine. If this had been the 80s they'd have been wearing pocket protectors. We do the initial greetings, hi I'm so-and-so, etc.

There's an awkward silence. Then one of asks, "So... Star Trek or Star Wars?" I didn't really like either. I said Star Trek but meant Star Wars. I didn't go back after that.

Never played this one, and heard nothing but complaints about it from folks. I'm sort of surprised it lasted this long.

In other news, EQ1 and AC1 are still up and running, which makes me smile. Hell, there's still Quake II servers up and running.

Diablo II is still a viable community - in fact, I think you can still actually play Diablo I online, though hardly anybody does.

No shiat storm yet about whats going on in eve, that is being compared to it's "NGE"?

I played for a few months and enjoyed it. I even enjoyed the CCG. This is when I was working from home and had plenty of time to invest in an MMO.

My mistake - I played as a Bounty Hunter.

Turns out that there is a glitch in the game - it results in a mission that cannot be completed - and as a result you cannot level up any further.

I did some research and found out that the glitch had been around for - get this - THREE YEARS!!!! They were aware of the glitch but could not be bothered to fix it.

I will never play a SOE MMO again. That's just a middle finger to users.
