I suggest you go with the original

Holy crap. That "good Samaritan" did just about everything wrong possible.

The priest and the Levite both walked by, but the Samaritan pulled his piece and offered to put a few new holes in the perp.

Since we've started out this thread with trolling, I'll just add to it

I lost a scoring wedge attempt in Trivial Pursuit last night on the question "What non-fiction book was best seller in 1952, 1953, and 1954" (years may be off slightly).

I answered Webster's Dictionary.

The answer was some newly annotated and revised Bible.

Sorry, no, that is not non-fiction. Parts may be, but as a whole, no.

Prolly that David kid would've also.

Actually, subby, the punk was the one doing the brandishing.
"An older gentleman was standing out there and a younger kid pulled a gun on him and was pointing it at him," she said.
The older man was trying to hide behind a newspaper rack and the gunman was circling the rack trying to get to him, holding a silver gun, McKernan said.

Yes he did. A defensive firearm is for ending conflicts - not restarting and escalating them after the conflict has already ended.

It's one of history's great ironies that when Jesus told that parable he deliberately made the Samaritan the good guy to hammer home a point. To his listening audience the Samaritans were the scum of the earth, the ultimate bad guys*. It would be like telling a story about a kind Muslim at a Free Republic convention

And yet, thanks to that story, the word Samaritan has now come to mean "a kind and altruistic stranger"

* because unlike the heathen barbarians who weren't chosen and therefore didn't know any better, Samaritans were actual members of the original 12 tribes who still insisted on worshiping God wrong (ie up on MT Zion rather than in the temple)

The "older gentleman" was the original assailant, the "younger kid" was the Samaritan. Reread the article and pay attention to the names and ages.

I'm not sure how anybody looked at this story and said "yeah, this kid is totally a Good Samaritan".

2011-06-23 02:54:49 PM
FTA: The Good Samaritan then allegedly caught up to the man, parked his car and confronted the assailant with a firearm.

Yea, that ain't legal anywhere. If he had pulled the gun while the assault was happening might have been a different story. But chasing them down and pulling a gun after the assault is over is known as escalating the situation. And that ain't legal.

You are allowed to intervene to halt the assault, anything beyond that is playing cop and can get you in a ton of trouble.

If he was able to follow the guy he should have called the cops and told them where he was.

Most people in this area take a very dim view of people beating on old ladies.

He would have. After the woman was beaten to a pulp or dead he would have written a report about it. See, dealt with.

So, just for the people that don't know:

Pulling a gun to stop an assault in progress:
- on your own property-- legal essentially everywhere
- in a public area
--- with a license-- legal anywhere the license is recognized
--- without a license-- legal in open-carry states

Pursuing a suspect fleeing the scene of an assault
- barehanded-- fine, legal in most states, usually part of "citizen arrest"
- with a gun drawn-- NO. BAD DOG. Why would you even THINK running down the street with a loaded firearm drawn is OK? You farking MORON.

Your Bible is defective if you have one, whether it's the whole thing or just Act 1. Best to burn them all and forget all the insipidness that they contain.

You have to admit that the whole turning around towards the cops with the gun still raised was pretty farking stupid.

2011-06-23 03:03:49 PM
I'm not even entirely sure the woman was assaulted after reading, it sounds more like either her or the guy just weren't watching where they hell they were walking. She was bumped into ALMOST hard enough to knock her down. That would annoy me to have happen but unless it were deliberate which would be fun to try and prove in court, I can't see it as assault.
