Neutralized?

You mean a potentially valuable historical artifact was detonated, most likely.

I wish there were explosives teams with the equipment to actually neutralize grenades (remote waldoes inside an explosive-resistant chamber, etc) so finds like this weren't always dealt with the most expedient way.

Geeez, people are dense, it already said where it came from earlier in the article: The military explosives experts confirmed it was indeed a live German grenade from the World War One era
