Stay on message, Mitch. Or the chamber of commerce might take away your post.

2011-06-22 05:28:12 PM
Not exactly what I'd call principled opposition.

And it's not just on Libya.

Deficit spending
Funding mandates
Payroll tax exemptions

Pick a topic, any topic....

2011-06-22 05:48:59 PM
Party of No, indeed.

2011-06-22 06:30:58 PM
subhuman republican filth.

Well then, I look forward to the rebuttal from the Fark Troll Brigade.

Treason?

2011-06-22 06:32:15 PM
You always see Democrats at least attempt to cross the isle for a compromise. Republicans, not so much.

And somehow, Dems are the bad guys.

/Go farking figure.

2011-06-22 06:33:08 PM
And he's suddenly a RINO.

2011-06-22 06:34:08 PM
Damn, I submitted this with a better headline, ha.

Partisan politics always trumps real-life concerns with these people. The GOP is all about keeping the rank-and-file in line only when one of their own is making the big decisions. Otherwise, it's obstruct away, everything else be damned. What shiatty governance.

2011-06-22 06:34:53 PM
"I think some of these views were probably held by some of my members even in the previous administration but party loyalty tends to kind of mute them," he said

Wow. Party Loyalty is a suck-a$$ reason to deploy guys to war. How about showing some loyalty to America? her military personnel? and the parents of those people in the service?

2011-06-22 06:35:24 PM
ftfa "But I do think there's more of a tendency to pull together when the guy in the White House is on your side."

America's side or the GOP's, there's your choice

2011-06-22 06:37:46 PM
Loyalty trumps their responsibility to voice concerns over massive overseas military commitments that have helped to create the massive deficit they now say is a crisis because the President is a Democrat?

/so vote Republican

2011-06-22 06:37:52 PM
There is no reason to have political parties if you are not going to support your party when it is in power.

/Nothing to see. Move along, Citizen.

2011-06-22 06:40:54 PM
Mitch McConnell is headed for the woodshed.

2011-06-22 06:42:34 PM
Wow! Did McConnell just make public one of the implicit rules? This is a rare phenomenon.

That does seem to be the attitude most prevalent inside D.C.s' beltway, doesn't it?

2011-06-22 06:52:02 PM
The ridiculous thing is, he does this all the damn time. Anytime he gets in an interview, the reporter asks him "why are you doing x?", and he says "because it makes Obama mad." And it's never seen as a big deal.

He left out on other reason: the republicans are terrified that Gaddafi will be killed or go into exile, giving Obama yet another military credential to go with killing bin Laden. At this point Gaddafi is only clinging to power because the republicans are threatening to end US involvement. This is known in some circles as "giving aid and comfort to the enemy." And nothing inspires confidence in your allies like stabbing them in the back and reneging on your treaty obligations.

I sure wish Obama and the Democrats had more of a backbone. They should be trumpeting this borderline treason, they should be calling the republicans to task for their economic sabotage, Obama should be punishing red states severely for their intransigence. Oh, we need to cut spending? Kiss your state's military installations goodbye, South Carolina. Sorry Texas and Arizona, there are simply no more federal funds available to help you with your wildfire problem. I suggest you try prayer, or do something bootstrappy. The nation is now more polarized than I have ever seen it in my 55 years. A bunch of '60s hippies waving Little Red Books is one thing. The leadership of one of the main political parties plotting what amounts to a right wing coup is quite another.

Yeah, they constantly obstructed Bush because he was a Republican. Never gave him a damn thing that he wanted.

Oh wait, they actually rubber stamped pretty much every piece of legislation he ever wanted. Never mind.

2011-06-22 07:43:14 PM
When are people going to see how partisan the Republicans are?

I know the "Oh but both sides are bad", but that is bullshiat. When Bush started the Iraq bullshiat war Democrats voted for every little thing he wanted and were afraid to even ask any questions.

While the Republicans have been holding the US hostage to get their political way. That's not "politics" that is terrorism.

Yeah like how they totally complained about the Iraq & Afghanistan war right away and held the vote up for the authorization so they could score political points -- OH WAIT YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY WRONG AND FULL OF shiat.

Giving the president more benefit of a doubt when he takes the U.S. to battle when that president is of the same party is par for the course. Both sides do it, and I won't fault anyone for taking a wait and see attitude when they know the president is more likely to share their political values.

What I'm more interested in are the Republicans, like McCain, who support the effort to oust Qaddafi, even knowing it will result in another political victory for Obama, who refuse to make their support known by either pushing for a declaration of war, or for authorization under the War powers act. These cowards refuse to support the president in a goal they share only because the president is of another party. It's not about tactics, costs, or benefits, it's about party loyalty. They are the real problem.
