If the luggage didn't end up in Atlanta at some point, I question whether it was truly Delta.

Also, I see no references to lengthy flight delays and/or cancellations, which further leads to me to question whether Delta was actually involved.

The surly ticket agents and egregious boarding pass errors, however, do appear to be evidence of Delta-related activity, so maybe this is true.

"Huh, what should I do with all this still-damp pee-soaked clothing I've got? Oh, I know, I'll spread it all over my bed!" Have fun trying to sleep tonight.

Delta: We love to pee, and it shows.

Ha! Well I guess he'll think twice before trying to bring a full-size tube of toothpaste on a flight again.

Can you claim frequent flyer miles for your luggage?

They really are a horrible airline. I try to fly Jetblue or Virgin America when possible. They are light years above the old legacy airlines like United or American.

Greyhound once lost all my stuff for 3 months. Pftttttt! Amateurs. I went to the East coast, it was found in Alaska.

No one who's ever flown Delta would have a problem believing that story. As for the old legacies, Continental has always managed to deliver my luggage to the same destination as me.

Who knows if they actually did pee on it... but hey, if all that stuff happened before that actually happened to me, I'd piss on it too just to put the icing on the cake.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, as a Platinum Medallion member of SkyMiles, I truly chose the wrong airline to bet everything on. And I feel like I'm stuck now as I won't have status on any other airline for a while if I switch over.

My favorite is Alaska Airlines. Free microbrews and small-batch wine on pretty much all flights. Great for direct flights between San Francisco and Portland or Seattle. But they still charge for the first bag.

Anecdotally, I've heard that if you write other airlines, provide a copy of your status card from another airline and a letter saying pretty much what you said, they'll comp you at least silver if not gold on theirs to get you started. It's worth a shot.

I hate Delta, ever since I had to fly from Atlanta to Rome. It was just an all-around shiatty flying experience. Every time I've flown US Air, I thought I was going to die. It feels like they have 16 year old boys flying the planes. I go to Paris a lot, and considering the fact that I want a shot at not dying, I refuse to take Air France. I generally stick with United when going international. They have cattle class plus, which gives more leg room, and the entertainment isn't horrible. I've always gotten my luggage with them. *knock on wood*

Its.... green. with black piping. It converts to a backpack, and unzips to expand to
double its normal size (still carryon compatable when expanded thanks to the soft
sides).

Don't have a make/model. It was a yardsale find 13 years ago.

Swag, as the kids say. Fitting two weeks of clothing in a carry-on sounds like a minor miracle.

We have had similar service from Delta/Air France, but I don't feel that much like a serious victim because of what happened to my sister in law. She lost most of her most valued possessions using SAS Cargo when she immigrated from Europe to the US. It was bundled up and shipped on a pallet and it got "lost" (stolen really I think). Over a period of many months with about two hundred phone calls, she was told it had been routed to a wide variety of places including South Korea. None of it was ever recovered by her and they gave her very little for the loss. When you travel, use insurance and carry on anything you can't replace.

2011-06-22 01:29:44 PM
Just prior to 9/11, I was traveling on business. Ahead of me in the check-in line was a fairly attractive, well-dressed young woman. When it was her turn, she marched up to the counter and immediately started berating the ticket agent about the fact that every time she flew on this $%^& airline it lost her #$@& luggage and she was getting ^#$^%#$%& sick of it! She informed the poor guy, in no uncertain terms, that she had a very important meeting in New York and she had a portfolio that was too large for carry-on so she was checking it but it had better #@$^%*& well make it to New York when she did. Throughout the entire tirade, the ticket agent kept smiling politely, murmuring his understanding of how upset she must be and assuring her that he would do everything he could to take care of her. Apparently in her rage, she failed to observe how busily he was typing away on his computer terminal and also failed to observe that the luggage tag he put on the portfolio had NRT on it in big bold letters.

I'm not suggesting that the fellow in the article had any such problem but sometimes folks create their own problems. Don't piss off the folks serving you. They have far better ways of getting even with you than you may know.

While I doubt they'd hold 2 weeks worth of clothes, the CVC bag (new window) is almost magical in the amount of stuff you can cram in it and there should be little if any difficulty in getting it into an overhead compartment or under the seat.

It's all about planning. Even for a week-long trip I probably only need two pairs of pants. If it's nothing but solid business, I don't need anything more than a pair of very soft (Nike Free, several years old) running shoes. Running in the morning means I don't need additional shirts, just a few pairs of socks and a set of shorts. If you have to wear suits, that's going to make it harder - but if you're going to see different people each day you can get by with a lower number of suits. Even with the same folks you may be able to get away with it by having neutral suits and large color/pattern differences in the shirts and ties.

Traveling in jeans can make it easier to pack as dress pants compress better than jeans.

I suspect that what happened was that his baggage did undergo rough handling, but I doubt the "peeing part".. Some of his stuff simply burst or exploded: The toothpaste and aftershave. And the aftershave bottle might be missing after going through customs and them opening it up and finding it broken or burst.

I've had toiletries occasionally spill like that traveling, and it makes an incredible mess and can ruin clothes and stuff. I take great pains now to bag up everything individually.

Brother in law used to handle bags for Delta at ATL. When foggy, he'd say it was like gorillas in the mist.
