Normally I'm all for gardens, but...

Chittenden County's top prosecutor says he won't pursue charges against a man accused of refusing to dismantle a greenbelt garden planter made with 150 wine bottles

I wouldn't make a planter out of glass bottles. Not only could it break and leave shards of glass, it could focus the sun's rays and start a fire. Also, is a greenbelt like a grass median in the middle of the street? What if a car or motorcycle happened to jump the curb and strike it? It could be worse than hitting a plate glass window.

If he'd made a planter out of recycled wood or straw bales or even bricks I'd be all for it.

Vermont has always struck me as one of the saner states.

As a matter of interest, are there any pictures of the structure in question? I would be interested in seeing what it looks like before making a judgement. After all, this is the Internet.

1)
Definition for greenbelt:
a belt of parks or rural land surrounding a town or city.

2)
I imagine the planter was made by putting the winebottles upside down, half buried, and a square/rectangle of those = raised bed. Many years ago there was a punk rock music co-op thing in Detroit that had a bed made of them. Took a picture of it. The glass never broke, at least within the two years I periodically stopped by the place. Wine bottles aren't really the easiest *to* break, especially if the neck is buried.

Also,

1) Bricks can get pricey and it's silly to drop money on a community garden
2) Recycled wood... well, if the wood's been treated that's not the greatest choice. If it hasn't it'll rot unless you treat it a specific way with certain oils. It's a hassle.
3) Straw bales always end well (eye roll).

"Whom" is correct. There should have been a comma between "job" and "part".

It is just impossible for any member of the law enforcement or judicial system to catch a break around here, isn't it? If they do their jobs, they get hammered for doing their jobs. If they don't do their jobs, they get hammered for not doing their jobs. And either way, doing their jobs or not doing them, it always comes down to: Howcome I didn't get to do whatever I wanted to do, even though it's illegal?!?! And someone else did?!?!? WHAAAAHH!!!!

The parks around Burlington are quite beautiful, but from the city you have to pass a bunch of coop farms to get to them. I'm not quite sure why this person didn't put their energies towards helping one of those existing efforts as I'm fairly certain tending all those acres takes a decent amount of work. Perhaps joining an established effort wasn't edgy enough and they needed to do something less mainstream =)

It's not because he's part of the judicial system that I'm not giving him a break.

Damnit, his job IS to use prosecutorial discretion. And he uses it every damn day in deciding whom he will go after (me) and whom he will let slide (his friends and donors and important people.)

Chris Rock: You know the worst thing about nubians? nubians always want credit for some shiat they supposed to do. A nubian will brag about some shiat a normal man just does. A nubian will say some shiat like, "I take care of my kids." You're supposed to, you dumb motherfarker! What kind of ignorant shiat is that? "I ain't never been to jail!" What do you want, a cookie?! You're not supposed to go to jail, you low-expectation-having motherfarker!

Hero tag says, "He let this guy go, give him a cookie."

He doesn't get a hero tag just because in this instance he is not guilty of prosecutorial overreach. That's his damn job you low-expectation-having motherfarker!

RTFA people.

The guy didn't get arrested, he got cited. Instead of a fine, he's going to have to jump through Community police hoops - it probably won't take long to make him wish he'd gotten the fine.

As for the planters-made-of-glass, they go between the sidewalk and road. That's -not- a good place for a large amount of glass.

I have come accross some real tosser green belt gardners, ie, ones that actually use sharpened stakes with the pointy end faced up to catch... god, knows, but clearly to maim people or destroy tires at night.

It's just territorial pissing extended onto the sidewalk.

4 litres of Roundup usually drops the sort of hint they can understand.

Also, screw the mindless striving for safety at all costs, and the petty governmental idiots who use it as tool to leverage what little power they have to boss other people around.

Where we live, the courts have determine it is not illegal or insulting to call a police officer a "pig". It's accepted slang, just like "chippy" for a formworker.

(it isn't smart though, givewn how dishonest police are with trumped up charges)
