The man was the best part of "Farce of the Penguins".

Him having a pissing match with Gilbert Gottfried was the only thing worth seeing in that movie...

Stephen Fry would be awesome if he did it like his LittleBigPlanet narration.

I have to create an account to download a free mp3? fark you Audible.com.

Benny_Hill: I have to create an account to download a free mp3? fark you Audible.com.

It's worse than that. I figured "what the hell" since it could be linked to my amazon account. Once you "purchase" the $0.00 item, you are only allowed to download it in their proprietary format with their proprietary software.

Yeah, no thanks.

Just a heads up--

Following the link, I just DL'd this but had to download their program manager first. When I tried to run the program, I got a message saying that it couldn't start because mfc71.dll was missing and I should reinstall. I looked up that dll and it says "mfc71.dll is a module belonging to an advertising program by WinSoftware. This process monitors your browsing habits and distributes the data back to the author's servers for analysis. This also prompts advertising popups. This process is a security risk and should be removed from your system."

I assume either avast or malwarebytes knocked it out during the install.

I actually went through the entire process, and now I have some bullshiat audible program on my computer, and a DRM-infested file that won't play on anything unless I use their bullshiat program to convert it to an mp3 or something actually useful.

Are trotsky and Six_By_Nine astroturfing?
I don't believe for a second they both had Audible ready to go.
I like hearing SLJ curse loudly as much as the next guy, but not enough to install that POS software. It'd probably be easier to pirate if I even cared enough.

Totally worth it. But I have low standards for these things.

Occam's Disposable Razor: I don't believe for a second they both had Audible ready to go.

They MIGHT have iTunes and a Mac. I didn't have to install squat, iTunes handles Audible books fine.

That said, a DRM-free version would be a far nicer deal.

Wise_Guy: I looked up that dll and it says "mfc71.dll is a module belonging to an advertising program by WinSoftware."

mfc71.dll is a visual studio dll(that's microsoft if you don't do any programming).
If you google searched it, just ignore the idiot on yahoo answers.

I went to DL it... then saw that I needed to get audible's software to run it. Me thinks not... It's a friggin' sound file, not launch codes - why can't these greedy "It must be our's, our's OUR'S!!!!!!" pricks DIAF already.

I don't know why people are having to download software for this? I clicked the Audible link, signed in with my Amazon account, filled out my address (why? annoying, but only took two seconds) and the file automatically downloaded to iTunes. Have listened to it twice already. Is it because I have a Mac? Either way, awesome-sauce.

Thanks for taking care of business. I was happy enough to make a fake account so as to not give my Amazon creds to a new 3rd party, but I drew the line at having to use their software or iTunes to acquire the file. Utter horseshiat.

OMG thank you, as soon as I started reading the headline my mind gestalted "Samuel L Jackson" from my field of vision and I read the headline in his voice. Then, I knew I had to have this audiobook. Screw DRM.

Ha - that's where I drew the line too. They've also done a fine job of suppressing the "audible mandatory player download WTF" type searches on Google.

Funny thing, after I heard about this, it turned out my mother had just brought a copy of the book home from work. (she's a pediatric nurse)

I'll try the audio tomorrow sometime, if there's not too much hassle.
