It might be possible to sound like more of a condescending asshole, but I'm not entirely sure how you'd go about it.

I hope that sound bite is used over and over during his next election campaign.

How dare they try to explain the impact of legislation on their puny existence. Especially without a suitcase full of cash for the nice Senator.

No, Hammerlinck did it better. He also gets extra asshole points for being a politician and saying it in front of a camera.

i mean, i know this is what is running through the heads of every GOP legislator who has to listen to anyone who isn't backing up dump trucks of money to his house or shining his knob...but you're not supposed to actually SAY it.

ROFL! once a year?

if you're a mainstream republican politician, you are by definition a douchebag 24/7. no acting required.

What a burn coming from a guy who made it up the power ladder to State Senator from Iowa. At least his party has a majority in the Senate. Oh wait--no they don't.

2011-06-10 12:29:51 PM
The worst part is his "I don't like it...I don't want you to do that".

Who gives a shiat what you want, guy? You're an elected representative. You sit quietly when voters tell you what they want. Otherwise, you go home.

A primary opponent with, at least, a high school-level civics education needs to put this douche out to bastard.

PASTURE. Out to pasture.

...because this surely will not come around and bite him or the party on the ass...

I was a Young Republican. I believed in the system. I still do, to some extent, but the leadership is now constantly reaching far past what led me to the GOP in the first place. Lost ideals, lost platforms, pushing well into the land of radicalized politics and far past the Conservatism that led me to the party in the first place.

We, as a party, are losing a generation. There will be a some young folks who turn to the party, but not out of any love of the ideals that drew me to her. If we insist on rejecting sane policy, and continuing to embrace racists and fear mongers, we will lose a generation or two of voters. We cannot sustain the party on dying fears, homophobia, and fear of immigrants. We cannot even live up to good Conservatism on those platforms, and instead the party has slipped into a land of radicals who fear what the nation is becoming, and long for a time when the nation was different--as opposed to dealing with today's problems, and with sane solutions.

It saddens me, and while I stay out of some hope that the party can be returned to a semblance of good Conservative thought, it is getting harder and harder to find those folks to support, instead given the wasteland of radicals who pose as Conservatives, and who hate the nation, their neighbors, and the very Constitution as it stands.

Seriously, the Republicans get so pissed that college students vote for Democrats, but Republicans don't even attempt to engage them. All the GOP's messages are designed to target the fear and prejudice of the elderly, and constantly railing on about how much they hate the educated, and how proud they are to be ignorant, is no way to reach people who are going to spend the next decade in debt because they chose to get an education.

They will.

Yesterday, a student asked me if it was true that the feds were considering ending the loan subsidy for graduate students. Now, this *is* being considered, but I don't think it will happen.

Student: "Oh my God, how can this happen??? Why would the federal government do that? What should I do??"
Me: "Well, who is your congressman"
Student: "...."
Me: "That's why".

Oh dude, look at reality. The only thing 'your' Republican Party has to do with your ideals is the farking name. You're absolutely right about them losing a generation, but they have lost far more than that. They really don't have a reason to exist now because they're representing nothing that benefits what remains of their base.

The Republicans are finished. The only thing up in the air is what happens to them and when it happens.

I had hopes for the Modern Whigs, but they got co-opted by the TEA Party idiots. Or rather, the TEA Party was concocted to take any attention away from sane third party Conservative movements...

They won't be totally finished for another couple decades, when the bulk of the old guard finally die out. Until then they're gonna keep raping their 'base,' and the 'base' will keep voting for them, cause gays, god, and guns are all more important than making a decent wage or having health insurance.

You also can't sustain your party by pissing into the eye of the next generation, the generation that is to ultimately replace your current support base that is dying off.

Yeah, I'm sure. Look at 2010. Its the same crap I heard before that ass whooping democrats took in the house and almost every state legislature. While democrats are busy destroy 60 years of carefully constructed mideast policy, pumping out trillions of dollars devaluing the currency, trying to create a massive government to provide cradle to the grave entitlements and violating states rights among other half thought out poorly executed douchery.

You post completely fabricated DERP, and then challenge those who laugh at you uproariously to "prove me wrong!"

I for one appreciate your comments. You have done more in your post to demonstrate the wholesale corruption and idiocy of the current Republican Party than the entire thread.

Hell, you've exceeded the Iowa moron that the thread was based on.

I can always depend on the competitive nature of today's republican party to create new and hitherto un-plumbed depths of DERP to keep me entertained.
