Man this great, when Jackie Chan day rolls around here in Toronto I'm (Red belt Hapkido) gonna go downtown with my son (green belt Tae Kwon Do) and we are going to clean up downtown Toronto by beating the crap out of all the homeless people, who befowl our great city.

2001-10-25 10:11:10 AM
hey Lenny, you can start with Mel and his nimble-fingered wife

2001-10-25 10:12:12 AM

I Liked Yan better when the show was called Woking with Yan.

2001-10-25 10:39:30 AM
I think there's a lot more than homeless people befoulling Toronto.

2001-10-25 10:42:30 AM
I just saw The Legend of the Drunken Master on Starz and I think Jackie Chan Day should be nationwide. Either that or we should steamroll Canada and take theirs.

2001-10-25 10:44:16 AM
This story deserves a hero tag

2001-10-25 10:47:02 AM
I'm having incredible gas pains today!

2001-10-25 11:02:47 AM
fark THAT! Canadians always trying to trump the US. I say make October, Jackie Chan Month! Top that Canadian Beeeeeeeeaaaatches!

2001-10-25 11:07:02 AM
A friend from toronto once told me..."Canadians are just like Americans, we just don't have any guns."

you wish!

2001-10-25 11:16:22 AM
I've had Jackie Chan in a fight in a pub once. He went down like a sack full of kittens, and squealed like one, too.

2001-10-25 11:16:33 AM
Jackie Chan rules. He's demonstrably more dextrous in his late 40's than most American action stars have ever been in their entire lives, and I'd go so far as to say that the best fight scenes of Bruce Lee and Jet Li don't hold a candle to the Urdiquez - Chan fight scene in Meals on Wheels, or many of the fights in Drunken Master 2 (the most technically impressive kung-fu movie I've seen yet). His bravery in stunts often appears to border upon the suicidal... this, coupled with the friendly, innocent and easy going persona he projects in most of his roles makes him as close to a living super-hero as anybody could hope to be.

2001-10-25 11:17:51 AM
Incidently, I would like to join in praising Sethor for writing one of the funniest things I've seen on Fark for quite a while.

2001-10-25 11:31:58 AM
Mel Lastman is a stuffed pig. He just wants an excuse to be on TV again, even if it is to make a presentation to Toronto: The city that thinks it's important.

I live in Ottawa: The village that knows better :)

2001-10-25 11:32:45 AM
Drunken Master 2?

2001-10-25 11:32:59 AM
I friend of mine from Chicago once told me..."Americans are like Canadians, we just are more ignorant of the world."

you wish!

2001-10-25 11:44:50 AM
Madcharlie, it was originally released in Hong Kong years ago as Drunken Master II about 7 or 8 years ago, it was renamed "The Legend of Drunken Master" for it's 2000 USA release.

Chan rocks!

2001-10-25 11:50:20 AM
I heard that he holds the world's record for most takes in a single scene. (They re-shot the scene something like 3000+ times) Can anyone confirm, or is that just another urban legend?

2001-10-25 11:54:48 AM
Yes, I highly recommend that Drunken Master movie--a classic. Jackie is The Man; who else would crawl across
burning hot coals just for our entertainment? Plus, the
fight scenes are incredible.

2001-10-25 11:55:04 AM
If it was originally Drunken Master II, is there a Drunken Master I? Even if it wasn't translated, it would be cool. The first time I saw The Legend of Drunken Master, I almost pissed myself.

I agree that Chan kicks ass! Maybe if I do enough Tae-Bo, I'll get as cool as him.

2001-10-25 12:48:36 PM
Does that mean everyone has to do their own stunts that day?

2001-10-25 01:12:56 PM
ERRATUM: "Jackie Chan" in my penultimate post should read "a sack of kittens".

Apologies for any inconvenience caused. I'm off to the pub.

2001-10-25 01:16:42 PM
Madcharlie,
There was a film called "Zui Quan" (Drunken Master, or the Story of Drunken Master in translated releases) from back in the 70's, but I haven't seen it and can't vouch for it's availability.

2001-10-25 01:35:39 PM
I just rented Drunken Master for the first time. At first I was put off by the cheese, but it turned out to be a great movie :)

2001-10-25 01:47:12 PM
familybmx:
No, it's "Canadians are just like Americans, but with healthcare."

2001-10-25 02:26:59 PM
Jackie Chan Day? While they're at it why don't they honour the original and, for many peoples money the best:

Cool - just finished watching "Drunking Boxer" last night -

Any actor who can realistically kick the ass of 20 or more other actors while playing a drunk should have their own day...

(Have I mentioned I'm Irish?)

I'd like to see Arnie trying to drink a 1/2 gallon of Jack and beating the cr*p out of the baddies...

Hey, I submitted this early this morning!! I guess I'll go to the garden and eat worms now.

You know, the reason so many Canadians think badly of the States is because Americans always say that they've been to Toronto and it's the cleanest city, with the nicest people, that they've ever seen. So the rest of Canada thinks that if you think that about Toronto, you must live in Hell on earth.

No offence to Torontonians, but you have to admit, it's a dirty city, with surly people.

true nuf scrappy
i was there in the spring/summer
that is a fairly filthy city
maybe i just thought it was really bad cause i met Bradford How there
*shudder*

i like winnipeg, it's either extremely hot, or extremely cold, but it's music scene can't be compared to any other one in all of canada.
as for generally the best city, i'de have to go with quebec city

2001-10-25 03:48:14 PM
Every day should be Jackie Chan day. He is you f'ing god and you know it.

Some Guy- The last scene in Drunken Master 2 took four months to film.

I have DM2 on tape in Chinese w/subtitles. It's awesome; at the end he turns blind and retarded (they cut that out of the Americn release. I wonder why?)

"My Toronto gazelle is no match for your Vancouver flying crane!..."

the 1st drunken master is really funny too, and in a lot of ways better than part 2. especially if you're a fan of chop-socky films like me!

"huh! so you want to fight?! then fight me!"
