Because it leads to epic bum hurt and crying.

2011-06-09 02:33:47 PM
You know, I haven't watched The Daily Show for a while, but I know that if I were Stewart, I wouldn't comment on this.

fark that, there are plenty of stupid things to make fun of without hurting a friend.

Conservatives - holding Jon Stewart to a higher standard than Fox News since 2002

2011-06-09 02:38:45 PM
What the crap? He destroys Weiner for a week and they think he's DEFENDING him or something? Assholes and idiots, the whole lot of the Right Wing.

He practically devoted his entire show to the scandal last week, but only made a couple of jokes on Monday because Weiner's press conference took place about an hour and a half before taping began.

So vote Republican.

2011-06-09 02:41:56 PM
Because the jokes right-wing bloggers want him to make aren't funny.

2011-06-09 02:42:08 PM
Bah, Weiner jokes are low hanging fruit, if you ask me. Comedians who resort to it are either not that good or Jay Leno. But I repeat myself.

2011-06-09 02:42:11 PM
...you mean besides the jokes he's already making?

2011-06-09 02:44:12 PM
Yeah, when my friends are down and they feel like the whole world's against them, I like to join the bloodthirsty mob, and get in a few brutal kicks to the groin for good measure.

After all, isn't that what friendship is really all about?

2011-06-09 02:47:54 PM
So, after a week of going after him pretty well, he has a crappy show on Monday, likely due to the fact that there was little time to craft jokes, and they made up for it on Tuesday.

This leads that incredibly dim tool Althouse to state that he needs to "come clean" but that we need to move on. And that it's not biased TV, but people need to recognize the bias. And that it's just comedy, so people need to start really thinking critically about it.

How in the hell did this woman ever get a tenured professorship?

2011-06-09 02:48:33 PM
I tried to tune in to Fox News' comedy show last week to see what manner of mirth they'd cooked up, but I couldn't find it. What time is "The 1/2 Hour News Hour" on, anyway?

BunkoSquad: Fox News' comedy show

That pretty much describes all of their programming.

It looks like he skewered him pretty damn good here. One of his funnier bits too. Funny its also a world class response to republican butthurt in the article. Link (new window)

I'm sure the author was equally outraged by this:

Dennis Miller has usually been happy to spray his acerbic wit across the political spectrum, but things will be different on his new CNBC talk program. President Bush is in a mock-free zone.

"I like him," Miller explained. "I'm going to give him a pass. I take care of my friends."

Dear Ann Althouse,
Know how I know you don't actually watch the Daily Show, you ignorant fark? He spent a large chunk of last week mocking Weiner.

Also, your blog's comments are a cesspool of far right wing idiocy. I'll just go ahead and assume that between that and the advertisements, it has something to do with the blog's usual content. There's no need to read further.

Yeah, those comments read like Freep, only with slightly better grammar.

"Low hanging fruit". LOL.

So what's the deal with Weiner, right? Sounds like penis. And also he showed his penis.

2011-06-09 04:39:58 PM
Because Jon Stewart is not a sociopath? I wouldn't rag on friends from high school like that either because I'd feel too bad about doing it. Leave it to someone else.

2011-06-09 04:41:22 PM
last night, it was referred to as "The Wangover."

What's the big deal with the Weiner jokes anyway? It's a relatively common Jewish surname that derives from Wien, the German spelling of Vienna. So it just means "from Vienna." Like somebody from Hamburg might be known as Hamburger.

...why is everyone giggling? I just don't get what's going on here.

Conservatives don't have a sense of humor. That's one of their defining traits.

2011-06-09 05:03:48 PM
not only is he making jokes, they are hilarious. both him and Colbert. Colbert spraying lysol after reading the transcripts where Weiner mentions doing her from behind was pure gold. and Stewart went off on a rant about Weiner apologizing to Clinton. more gold.

so stuff it.

2011-06-09 05:06:39 PM
Watching these far right wing bloggers try to understand comedy is hilarious itself. It's sort of like watching a robot trying to understand love. A lot of sparks are going to fly from their head, and it will eventually end with them just sputtering ERROR ERROR ERROR.

2011-06-09 05:07:34 PM
Jon Stewart is an entertainer, not a newsman/journalist. He has no obligation to do a damn thing other than what his conscience, maybe his employer, dictates.

/Conservative
//No way in Hell I would even mention my friend.
///Stewart made the choice to talk about it. I think he's handled it with class.
////Colbert sucks.

Republicans should just start their own comedy/news show make it very popular and then tell all the jokes that mean old Jerk Stewart is too libtarded to tell.

When watching what the left is up to, one gets to see a lot of it.

He ripped him for a week before the press conference and nobody said anything, then on the afternoon of the press conference he only spent 2 minutes talking about it and the right-wing nits went nuts because he didn't go to town on Weiner when the press conference happened 90 minutes before his show.

The night after the press conference, Stewart spent both segments on it. Then, he spent more time on it last night.

I'm starting to think that even if Stewart brought Weiner on the show and punched him in the face, someone would still complain he was taking it too easy on the democrat.

You guys should make a comedy show about it. You could get Joel Surnow to produce and put it on FOX News. I'm sure it will be hilarious.

Dear Right Wing Conservatives:
You have no creative skills. You aren't funny. You have no talent for the visual arts. You are incapable of composing new, innovative music. Your literary skills are limited to polemics and research. It's best that you leave the comedy, art, music and literature to others, because you suck at it.

Best Regards,
Humorists, Artists, Musicians and Novelists

It would be *really* difficult to keep my mouth shut if I were a student in her class and knew she wrote something this idiotic. She either didn't watch the show or she's being willfully delusional. Stewart eviscerated the guy.

Furthermore, her comments that Stewart could get away with being easy on him is excusable because he's not a journalist is asinine to the extreme, as it implies that what he does could even BE mistaken for journalism. Does she consider non-comedian talking heads to be non-biased "journalists"? She seems to imply such.

It's hard to get my head around this because she's managed to be off-base from every angle. This dumbass teaches law at UW-Madison? I thought that was supposed to be a good program.

The right-wing conception of "comedy" is ultimately based on the hateful mocking of people who are weak or different. It's the comedy of the reptilian brain, taking great pleasure in the humiliation and suffering of dehumanized "others" who are assumed to be ridiculous. It's the comedy of the cheap shot, of kicking people when they're down. At the risk of going Godwin, it's the comedy of Fascism.

What have these idiots been watching for the past week? From what I can see, the Daily Show for the past week has been one gigantic Weiner roast with cheesy melted John Edwards with just a dollop of Palin Grey Poupon on top. He even ran a piece featuring Barack Obama's perplexing words describing the difficulty of an economic recovery (we are facing some stiff head winds PLUS WE GOT HIT BY A TRUCK!!!).

These are the very same folk reacting so over the top to Sarah Palin using WTF in the headline of one of her Facebook "thought pieces."

God, did any of you actually read the post on the blog?
